When we walk the "path of life", social life is very important. More often than not, close friendships can help us smooth out the rocky road where we are meant to travel.  Through friendships, we can become happier, wiser and more satisfied humans.

They can comfort the heart because the peace comes from having someone with whom we share our joy, sadness, success and failure.  Happiness takes on a greater meaning and a trouble shared becomes a trouble halved! 

They can advise the head because we may have better understanding and judgement through conversations with wise friends. If we are guided only by our own feelings, our judgement might be one-sided. On the other hand, our friends may offer advice on important decisions we have to make. Also, when we want to talk about our problems with a friend, we have to put our thoughts into words first. 

They can help us achieve the goals we set for ourselves because friends may offer help in many different ways. Sometimes a friend is even known as our "second self".  Friends may have many different ideas and skills so they can help us achieve what we want during life. 

 If we want to better walk the "path of life" with the comfort, advice and help from our trusted friends, we should choose friends and develop relationships carefully.

Do you have true friends? Do you want to know better between you and your friends? There are three different kinds of friends: "pest friends", "guest friends" and "best friends".

The first kind of friend is simply acquaintances (熟人), and all you usually know about them is their names. You may meet this kind of friend at school, at work, or on the bus, but you don't miss them when they're not around. When this kind of friend does something bad, you don't tell them. That is why they are called "pest friends".

The second kind of friend could also be called "social partners". They are closer than acquaintances, but not as close as true friends. You know their names, a little about what they like or dislike, and a little about their family histories; you usually have a few things in common, but you don't talk about anything deep, such as your wishes or fears, and they don't open up to you how they really feel.

The last kind of friend, the "best friend", is the people you know the deepest. You're like family, and know everything about each other. You have no problem staying at each other's houses, and you share your deepest feelings and thoughts. They will correct you when you're wrong, and though you may not be perfect, they at least will always care about you, and never do anything on purpose (故意地) to hurt you.

We all have our pest, guest, and best friends. We should value (重视) all friendships. Remember, all best friends start out as just acquaintances.

"A friend in need is a friend indeed." Friends are important to us. Friends help us get through hard times. Friends also influence us a lot. Let's enjoy two poems about friendship. 

Both poems are famous in their cultures, but they tell different stories. Li Bai described the scene (场景) of his friend seeing him off. The US poet Robert Frost wrote about a friend's visit when he was working. Li made a comparison (对比). His poem shows the friendship between him and his friend is deeper than the deep water. Frost's poem, on the other hand, tells the readers that we should stop what we are doing to talk with our friends. It tells us that nothing should get in the way of spending time with friends. The language is simple but sincere (真挚的).

Making friends is not easy. Sometimes it can take1 before you become true friends with someone. Friendship means different things to different people,2 most people have the same opinions (观点) about what a "TRUE FRIEND" should be. There are some common qualities of a "TRUE FRIEND". 

Firstly, true friends should be3 with each other. It means telling the truth4 and5 telling lies, but of course, this is not always so easy. Sometimes you do not want your friends to know6 about you, such as getting a terrible score in a test. Then you may want to tell a lie to make yourself feel much7 , but this is not a good idea. Your friends will8 out the truth at last, and they will be9 because you lied to them. So it is very important10 friends to believe in each other. 

The second most important quality of a true friend is being a good11 . You do not want to have a friend who is12 to listen to your problems, or a friend who might talk about your problems with everybody in school. It is very important for friends to13 a secret. 

Finally, be generous to your friends. You should14 your things with your friends.
