In the last passage we've already talked about some dangerous plants, but we don't want to give anyone the wrong idea. The truth is that some plants can hurt you, but most are completely harmless. In fact, there are plenty of plants that are actually very useful to humans.

That is why plants are so popular in Chinese medicine. Chinese medicine has been using plants for at least 4,800 years. One of the most popular plants in Chinese medicine is ginseng (人参). Doctors of Chinese medicine believe that ginseng can help your lungs (肺), clean your blood and do many other things. Ginseng also provides energy for people. In fact, many modern energy drinks that you see in stores have ginseng.

In some parts of the U.S., there is a plant called lady fern (蹄盖蕨). This is the plant you need if you've been stung by a bee, or if you've got a small burn or a cut. Lady ferns are great for making your skin feel better. All you have to do is roll one of its leaves and make it into pieces in your hands. The juice inside the leaf will help your skin feel better.

If you're hiking in Europe, look for a flower called tansy (艾菊). This yellow flower is a natural insects' enemy. You just rub it on your skin, and insects will leave you alone.

Sage (鼠尾草) is one of the most useful plants in the world. Because it has so many uses, it's also quite valuable. Human beings have been using sage for a very long time. In Europe before fridges appeared, people used sage to keep food. Over the years, people have used sage to fight all kinds of health problems. • 18、以下是一篇短文,请阅读全文,并从六个句子中选择五个补全到原文中,使原文的意思完整、连贯。

Do you often get angry? Anger is a kind of feeling. When your teacher gives you too much homework, when your team loses an important game, or when a friend borrows your favorite thing and then breaks it, you may get really angry.

For example, you breathe (呼吸) faster, your face turns red, and you may want to break something, but sometimes, you keep your anger inside. The problem is that if you do this, you may get a headache (头疼) or not feel comfortable. In fact, it's not good to hide (压抑) your anger, and it's common for you to get angry sometimes. But keeping anger inside usually just makes things worse. Try to let it out in the right way, without hurting others or yourself.

When you get angry, you can talk about it with other people. When you talk about anger, those bad feelings can start to go away. Here are some other things you can do when you start to feel angry. For example, talk to a good friend, count from 1 to 100, go for a bike ride, think about good things and so on.

So you should think carefully before you take action. Don't let your anger control you. Try your best to control your anger!

    A. Remember that how you act when you are angry can make everything better or worse.

    B. So you need to let your anger out.

    C. You may get really happy.

    D. Usually, your body will tell you when you are angry.

    E. Many things can make you angry.

    F. It's helpful to talk about your anger with an adult, such as your parent or a teacher.

Why Are Tennis Scores So Strange?

One, two, three... Most sports have a pretty easy scoring system (计分系统), but tennis is a bit different. In each game, both players start with zero—called "love". After one person scores (得分), the point becomes 15. The next point is 30, then 40, and the following point wins that game.

Some wonder why we do the points this way. Why not just "1, 2, 3, game Queen Won," for example? Unluckily, we don't know much about the beginning of this scoring system. We only know that it was different. In the early days of the sport, the points were 15, 30, 45 not 40. A poem (诗歌) from the 1410s counted the points of a game between King Henry V of England and the French Dauphin (法国王储) as 15, 30, 45. This was easier to understand because every time one scored, it was by 15.

But why do we give players 15 points when it's actually just a single point?            One popular story says that the numbers have something to do with clocks. People may have felt that the four quarters of a clock were a good way to score the game. But not everyone is happy with that story. Some people point out that people didn't begin to use minute hands until the late 1500.

You may find it strange to use "love" for a score of zero. Some believe that it came from the French word "L'oeuf" (the egg)—after all, the number zero looks like a duck or goose egg. Others like a more romantic idea about its beginning: Some people play tennis for love even if they don't win anything.

No matter how strange the scoring system may be, tennis is enjoyed all around the world. Tens of millions play it, with even more watching it on TV or their phones. So, why not pick up your racket (or sit down on your sofa) and enjoy some fun with tennis?

(1)、What can be the point if a tennis player scores for the third time now?
    A、15. B、30. C、40. D、45.
(2)、In Paragraph 2, how does the writer tell the old scoring way was different?

A、We still don't get the answer, either B、The players have something to say C、We can get the answer in the game D、The French people are interested in it, too

A、We only know a little about its history. B、It is easier to understand now. C、We are quite sure about its beginning. D、It makes tennis less popular now.

A、tell funny stories about tennis players B、ask more people to learn tennis C、show us how scoring systems work D、make us know more and interested in tennis
  • 20、Have you heard of a staycation? It is a vacation spent at your home or somewhere in your hometown. It's the combination (组合) of the words "stay" and "vacation". In recent years, it has become a popular trend. The word has even been added to the Oxford English Dictionary.
