The park was decorated with colorful tents where artists proudly displayed their works. Each tent was a story within itself — a display of skill, creativity, and years of experience.

Piche Design, a unique custom creation art store owned by Chuck Peashey, had one of the most interesting tents: an eye-catching, old setting with lamps shaped like musical instruments. "People come to me with objects that belonged to their long-gone loved ones, and I make beautiful items out of those for them. It is, indeed, rewarding," said Peashey.

Jill Schiller started doodling (涂鸦) when she was very young. Her hobby gave way to a series of super cool modern designs. She now draws with Swedish weaving techniques on scarves, carpets, bags, and T-shirts in her tent. Schiller believes that it is evidently a great method of expressing creativity and emotion. George Banagis' tent, which presented watercolor and pen and ink pieces, had a variety of options. His complicated pen and ink illustrations were available in the original full-size versions, which were made after weeks of effort, and also small, affordable postcards, notepads, and other souvenirs. Visitors loved this inexpensive form of art and flooded inside to buy.

Visitors also experienced all seven continents in one tent, Tatarzyna Photography. From penguins lined up on an Antarctic coastline to swans and wandering African elephants, Ted Tatarzyna has traveled all around the world to catch these moments of amazing creatures with a camera. "This is actually my second career," said Tatarzyna, who interestingly worked at Kodak for many years before its shutdown. He then started touring around the world for the pictures.

Strolling across the little artistic showcases is a learning experience that every student should take advantage of. And Clothesline had many other stories to tell.

When I was a teenager, I did a six-week summer learning camp at a college. It helped kids get a taste of what college was like. We had classes in the morning and the evenings were filled with fun activities. We did have a break in the afternoons. One afternoon, my friend Claude and I found an old basketball. We went to an outdoor basketball court for a game of one-on-one.

At that time, Claude was taller than me. He was also better at basketball. Gradually, I fell behind. I made up my mind and drove hard to the basket, but missed it! The ball bounced off the rim (篮筐边缘). Just as I jumped up to catch it, I saw an elbow above my face. When Claude caught the ball, his elbow hit my eye hard. I saw stars everywhere. The pain was terrible. Claude kept saying "sorry" over and over. I laughed through the pain.

I spent the next few days walking around with a black eye, but it was worth it. For years, afterward, I got a laugh whenever I told the story and joked about Claude's elbow of death. We all get an elbow to the eye sometimes. Our plans fail. Things work against us. Our ups become downs. When this happens, it's best to face it with laughter and forgiveness (原谅). In this way, you can turn your pain into joy and you can learn and grow.

It was Career (职业) Week at school. Each day, a different person came to talk about his or her career. Kelly's class had visits from a fireman, a doctor, an artist, and a computer programmer. All the talks were interesting. Kelly was encouraged to think of all the careers she could have.

Kelly was quite excited about the last person who came to visit— Andrew Fisher, a famous television reporter, who also wrote many books about his travels all around the world. Kelly wanted to hear him talk very much.

Mr. Fisher talked about growing up in a poor family, with very little education. He talked about being a reporter during exciting and dangerous events. He talked about climbing Mount Qomolangma and sailing down the Nile. He had many interesting stories, and the students paid close attention. Then he asked if anyone had questions. Kelly put up her hand at once. "Mr. Fisher, how did you get to be so successful?" Kelly asked.

"Here's the secret," Mr. Fisher said. "I write all my goals down in a special notebook. Every morning, I look at my notebook and read my goals. Then I say to myself, "How can I get one step closer to my goals?"

Mr. Fisher continued, "Try it yourself. Picture your dream in perfect details and write it down. Don't be afraid if your dream seems impossible. Nobody ever believed that the Wright Brothers could build an airplane. People laughed when Christopher Columbus said that he could reach Asia by sailing west. But these people believed in their dreams. They thought about their dreams every day. Each day they took little steps to realize their dreams."

Diana gathered her books and headed to the gym. Today was the day to sign up (报名) for after-school sports programs, 1 that she'd been looking forward to all summer. She and her brother Jeff, played soccer almost every day, so she made up her mind to join the soccer team.

"Hey, Diana," Lisa met her at the gym door. "I can't 2 to sign up. What about you?"
