In many places the weather changes (改变) during the year. These changes are called seasons. In the north and south there are four seasons in a year. At the North Pole and South Pole, there are only two seasons. In tropical (热带的) places near the Earth's equator, there are two seasons: a "wet" season and a "dry" season. Each season brings changes. They are important for plants and animals that live in different parts of the world.

Spring starts when the day and night are the same length. The weather gets warmer and sunnier. Trees and plants start to grow. Many animals have their young in spring.

Summer begins on the longest day of the year. In the north this is on June 21 or 22. Summer is usually the warmest and sunniest time of the year. Fruits (果实) grow faster on trees and plants. Little animals grow bigger and stronger.

Winter begins on the shortest day of the year. In the north this is on December 21 or 22. The weather is colder, and there is lots of snow in some places. Plants and trees stop growing. Some animals, like bats and bears, find places to hibernate (冬眠).

In Europe, there are many great and interesting countries. But one country stands out for its tulips (郁金香) and windmills (风车). It is the Netherlands.

The Netherlands is well-known for its bicycles, too. There are more bicycles than people in some cities. You can ride a bicycle to go around.

A library is a good place for people to read and borrow (借) books. It's quiet and tidy. It has different kinds of books. Many people like studying there.

Every city has libraries and many schools have libraries, too. Peter is a new student of Grade 7. There is a school library in his school. It's behind the classroom building. It has three floors. On the first floor (一楼), there are two reading rooms. There are five big desks and twenty chairs in each reading room. Peter comes here and does his homework after class every day. On the second floor (二楼), there are a lot of books. Students can't borrow the books. They can only read in the library. Peter thinks it is bad because he wants to read his favourite books at home. On the third floor (三楼), there is a computer room with sixty computers. Students have computer lessons here. It's Peter's favourite lesson.

Dear Grade 7 students,

This week you will take a lot of tests (测试), and they are really important to you. But there is also something important you need to know.

No test can measure (测量) how nice you are to others. The people who make the tests don't know how helpful you are to your parents. They don't know how often you help your teachers. There are no tests for these things!

The marks of your tests can be high or low, but they will not tell you everything! They will not measure how much you have improved (提高). They also won't tell how good your pictures are or how fast you run.

We hope you come to school every day to try your best, and remember that there is no test in the world that can measure all the wonderful things that make you, YOU!

The red pandas are cute and interesting animals. They are small and have reddish-brown fur (皮毛). The red panda lives in the mountains of China. It likes to climb trees and is very good at it. It has a big tail and the tail helps to keep balanced (平衡的) when it climbs.

The red panda eats bamboo, just like the black and white panda. It also eats fruits and eggs. It has sharp teeth to help it catch its food. The red panda goes out at night and sleeps during the day. It is a solitary(独自的) animal and it does not like to be around other red pandas.

Sadly, they are in danger now. They lose their homes and sometimes can't find food because people cut down trees for farming. Also, many people kill (杀) red pandas for their beautiful fur.

The red pandas are special and beautiful animals. We all should try our best to help them.
