Zootopia 2: New Dawn is not only a wonderful animated film but also a story about partnership, both in the movie and in real production. Since its release on 15 Nov. 2025, it  (win) widespread love around the globe.

For fans of Zootopia, Zootopia 2: New Dawnis definitely a  (surprise)film that has touched people of all ages.

An old saying goes "Laughter is the best medicine." It's true that laughter is really good for our health. So, the next time you're feeling stressed, try to laugh a lot, develop a sense of humor and watch funny films.

The Comic Relief charity, an organization that helps people in need, uses laughter to raise money. Every two years in spring, many English people put on a red nose, make a fool of themselves and do "silly" things to make themselves and others laugh.      

Examples of silly things you can do are:

Invite friends round to your house to watch funny films. They have to pay to watch the films, those with the most comfortable chairs pay more, and for food and drinks.

Hold a talent show at school and ask your friends and teachers to sing, dance or tell jokes. Sell tickets for the show to the rest of the school.

Have a red nose party at your house. All your friends come dressed in red, including red nose, and you serve red food and drinks. If they don't wear red, they have to pay a fine.

Get the students in your school to make funny sculptures(雕塑) using all kinds of materials. Sell tickets to your Red Nose Day exhibition and part of the money goes to Comic Relief.

The organization has helped people for more than 20 years. And how much have they collected since the first Red Nose Day? Over￡600 million! The idea of Red Nose Day has travelled to other countries, too. In New Zealand, for example, people have made big red noses which they put on the front of cars and even buildings.

My favorite movie is Ne Zha: Birth of the Demon Child, a  cartoon with a warm and brave theme. Its  is Ne Zha, a naughty but kind-hearted boy born with demon power. Many people are afraid of him and look down on him, but he never gives up. He tries his best to fight against fate and protect his hometown and family. The movie uses  technology and  artificial intelligence with beautiful pictures and lovely music to make the story come to live. Every wonderful scene touches me deeply every time I watch it.

The biggest 55 of this movie is its wonderful  and meaningful message. It gives us a clear warning: we must mind the risk of judging others by their appearance. Everyone has kindness and advantages, so we shouldn't look down on others easily. We should understand and help each other  the risk of losing our happy life. This  makes me think a lot about how to treat people around me.

I love this movie for its exciting plot and the lessons it teaches me. It tells me to be brave and , and keep kindness and justice in mind. No matter how difficult life is, we should face it  and never give up dreams. It is not just an entertaining cartoon, but also a good teacher that helps me grow up.

Have you ever heard about the comic strip Father and Son (German name Vater und Sohn)? His real name was Erich Ohser. 

Ohser was born in a small village of Germany on March 18, 1903.  He studied art in Leipzig in 1928 and began to work for money at the same time. During school time, he created a lot of great works and got many prizes. 

In 1930, Ohser got married in Berlin and his son Christian was born the next year.  It told stories about a short, fat man with no hair and his young son Eric. Although the stories were ordinary, they were full of love and kindness. 

The comic strip appeared in newspapers from 1934 to 1937.  Now this comic strip is still popular with children all over the world.

Chinese animated film Nobody has become a dark horse sweeping the box office this summer. After 29 days, it had made over 1.4 billion yuan. Many people love it, giving it a high score of 8.6 out of 10 on Douban, a famous review website.

The story follows a small pig monster who lives in a place called Langlang Mountain. He works hard for the Cave King, but doesn't know how to please the king and makes him angry. After losing his job, he decides to leave the mountain and teams up with three other small and nameless monsters. Together, they pretend (假装) to be the famous group from Journey to the West and start a dangerous journey to grow and find their true selves.

The film touches hearts because it shows the hardship of common people. The little monsters face big challenges and laugh at difficulties. Even though they are weak, they fight bravely. Many viewers say they see themselves in these characters.

Nobody also stands out for its beautiful art style. Made by Shanghai Animation Film Studio, it uses traditional Chinese painting skills. The soft colors of ink-wash paintings and detailed brushwork create a special, dreamlike world. Scenes like foggy mountains or the fur on the monsters look very real and artistic. The movie also shows respect for Chinese culture. For example, it references (参考) the classic 1986 TV show Journey to the West and ancient buildings from Shanxi Province. These small details make the story feel both old and new. Nobody is more than just a movie. It shows that Chinese stories can be told in fresh, exciting ways. As one viewer said, "The real hero is someone who keeps trying, even when things are tough." This simple but powerful message makes Nobody a must-watch for everyone.

Comics and graphic stories (图像故事) have been popular around the world for over a century. They started as simple drawings in newspapers in the late 1800s. By the mid-1900s, comics grew into colorful books with exciting characters like superheroes and funny animals. Today, they are not just for kids — many adults enjoy them too! Comics use pictures and words together to tell stories. The pictures are placed in panels (small boxes), and characters often speak through speech bubbles.

Graphics novels are similar to comics but are usually longer and tell complete stories in one book. They cover many topics, from fantasy adventures to real-life events. While comics are often short and published weekly or monthly, graphic novels are like thick books that readers can finish in one time. Both use art styles to show emotions — for example, dark colors might mean sadness, while bright colors show happiness.

Teachers have started using comics in classrooms. Why? Because combining pictures and words helps students understand difficult ideas. A science comic might explain how plants grow using images and simple texts. Some students even create their own comics to practice writing and drawing skills. Comics also encourage people who don't like reading long texts to enjoy stories.

Wan Brothers and their work Havoc in Heaven

The Wan Brothers are the pioneers of Chinese cartoons. They were born into an ordinary family in Nanjing. They were interested in painting and traditional art from a young age.

The Wan Brothers started making cartoons with an advertisement in 1925. They found the traditional Chinese paintings so beautiful that they wanted to make them "move". They got an idea from puppet shows. They created thousands of drawings, each being a little different from the last. When put together in order, these drawings became alive. Right after the success, they continued to make China's first cartoon short film, The Artist's Dream, in 1926. In the following years, they tried to add sound effects. Nine years later, they made China's first sound cartoon, Dance of the Camel. That was a big step in Chinese cartoon history.

The most famous work of the Wan Brothers is Havoc in Heaven. This film is based on the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West. It tells the story of the Monkey King, who fights against rules and orders and causes trouble in heaven. It is not only an important mark in Chinese cartoon technology, but also a successful cultural expression of traditional Chinese arts.

The Monkey King's face was designed based on the facial makeup of Beijing Opera, which was also made into the background music. The backgrounds and colors were chosen from traditional New Year paintings. Lastly, the character setting of Monkey King showed Chinese people's respect for courage to stand up against people with power and keep fighting for freedom.

Some Chinese cartoons bring happiness to many children. They mix Chinese culture and art. Let's see how artists put different arts into the cartoons. 

Several years ago, my parents bought some comic books to entertain my elder brother. He wasn't interested, but I thought they were1 . These comics had all the things I liked best — good stories, clever drawing and comedy. I immediately started drawing my own comics and I've never really stopped. Now I have a blog where I upload my works. I have developed a group of2 and made up situations for them.

Drawing comics takes a lot of time, and I'm still in school. There's a lot of schoolwork and it keeps me busy. Sometimes I draw during breaks, but3 I do it at home, where I can focus on my drawing. I try to combine lovely stories with traditional cultural 4 to make my characters come to life. Fans sometimes 5 me on my blog, and I enjoy writing back to them.

Last year, I attended a national youth comic festival. I learned that if we only copy others, we are6 losing our own style. That was a helpful 7 for me. The biggest advantage of the festival was that I learned new skills and made an important8 in my drawing.

Shadow puppetry combines painting, carving, storytelling and singing. It is one of China's 1 traditional arts. In 2009, it 2 to UNESCO's list of the intangible cultural heritage. (非物质文化遗产).

In Langzhong, Sichuan Province, generations of shadow puppetry artists have kept this traditional art alive. Langzhong shadow puppets are usually made from leather or paper. 3 often look like Sichuan Opera characters. The plays tell stories from history and myths.

The most famous artist in Langzhong is Wang Biao. His family members 4 this art for over 350 years. Wang, born in 1965, is the seventh generation of his family 5 down the art. He learned from his grandfather and became very skilled 6 a young age. In the 1980s, he traveled across the country with his grandfather, performing at different events. However, by the 1990s, the art became less popular. Wang had to find other jobs, 7 he never forgot his passion for shadow puppetry. Later, with help from 8 shadow puppet collector, he moved to Chengdu and started a puppet troupe (巡回演出团). The troupe put on plays in parks and schools, making the art 9 again. Wang always remembers 10 his grandfather told him-not to let shadow puppetry 11 with his generation.

Wang knows shadow puppetry needs to change with the times, so he tries to add dance, music, and cartoons to the shows. His troupe has performed in over 30 countries. He also teaches students 12 shadow puppetry in universities. In 2018, he built a museum which houses over 50,000 exhibits, including 13 ancient scripts. With modern technology, Wang and 14 artists are turning shadow puppetry into a new cultural experience. Thanks to their efforts, this ancient art 15 still be alive and inspiring today.

Have you ever looked at a simple drawing and felt something deep inside? That's the magic created by Feng Zikai, the father of Chinese cartoons. His works are full of  (kind) and care. 

Feng was born  1898 in Zhejiang Province. He grew up in a wealthy family, but he didn't enjoy the traditional studies. Instead, he loved art from  early age. Feng was known as the "Little Artist" in  (he) town. His teacher, Li Shutong, encouraged him  (follow) his love. Li taught Feng to draw from real life, not just to trace (临摹) pictures. 

After graduation, Feng worked as an art teacher in Shanghai. He wanted more training,  he went to Tokyo to study Japanese and European art in 1921. Inspired by the Japanese artist Takehisa Yumeji, he (return) home with fresh ideas for his ink paintings. Back in China, he joined a group of writers and (artist). His drawings soon appeared in popular magazines, making art accessible (易于接近的) to everyone. These works became known as manhua, a type of Chinese cartoon. 

Feng had a kind heart. He loved all living things,  (especial) children. He believed that "the  (valuable) thing in the world is a person." Through his art and caring ideas, Feng Zikai continues to inspire people today.

"We hope that China's animation industry (动画产业) can be as good as 40 years ago."  But why do they like these works from the 1929s? Are the young still interested in these old stories?  The 4K repair of the Chinese animated film The Legend of Sealed Book (《天书奇谭》) arrived in theaters. It's a beautiful memory of many people. The Shanghai Animation Film Studio produced the classic film. Many classic animations like The Monkey King are also its works. They used traditional skills such as paper-cutting and ink and wash painting. They borrowed ideas from Chinese New Year paintings and Beijing opera.  The combination (结合) of these things makes these films different from the popular Disney-style stories.

Since these old films are still popular among many young people today, why don't we just follow the traditions? In fact, The Legend of Sealed Book is a product of its time. It is remembered as a classic because of the way it shows traditional Chinese culture. 

With more and more animators entering, China's animation industry is sure to be better than before.

A Chinese 2D animated film, "Nobody" (The Little Monsters of Langlang Mountain), has become a summer hit. Made by Shanghai Animation Film Studio, it was released (上映) on August 2nd, 2025. By August 11th, it had earned 574 million yuan, breaking the record for Chinese 2D animated films—Big Fish & Begonia's(《大鱼海棠》) 573 million yuan. It also got 8.6 on Douban, winning the hearts of both kids and adults.

The film tells a warm story. Based on a short film from Chinese Tales, it follows four little monsters: a pig, a toad (蟾蜍), a weasel (黄鼠狼), and a gorilla. They work for a mountain king, but lose their jobs by accident. To survive, they pretend (假扮) to be Tang Monk and his team from Journey to the West (a famous Chinese classic) and start a journey west. Along the way, they grow from finding food to saving villagers. A famous line says, "We may be nobodies in society, but we are pillars (顶梁柱) at home," making people think about life.

What makes it special? Its beautiful Chinese ink painting style stands out—each picture uses 50 ink layers. The name of the movie is also very meaningful and profound (具有深意的). "Nobody" tells us: even small people can be heroes.

The film's success has also made its merchandise (商品) popular. Over 300 products, from plush toys to stationery, sell quickly.

"Nobody" is more than a movie. It brings joy and teaches us that everyone can be a hero.

To many people, art is a human expression of creativity. But in recent years, you may have read news about AI creating its own art. Some people worry that AI might replace artists someday.

However, this worry seems to be unnecessary, at least for now. Many artists today are turning AI into a useful tool. Instead of replacing artists, AI is bringing artists more possibilities.

A piece of music created by AI attracted people's attention. AI was used to turn the novel corona virus into a piece of music based on its protein structure (蛋白质结构): The project was led by Markus Buehler, an American musician.

Except for creating imaginative works, AI can also do some easy work for artists again and again. For example, in the comic and animation industries, there are now AI tools that can automatically (自动地) color in black-and-white line drawings.

"Although the results require a little clean-up, it could give artists time to experiment, by cutting down the time it takes to color each drawing." said a famous animator.

As Peter Ward wrote for The Culture Trip, art of every kind has always been influenced by technological (技术的) development. AI can become a useful tool to bring change to the art world if people don't fear it and try to welcome it.

What else can AI do?

AI can learn different music styles by analyzing (分析) audio data. It uses this data to create music ranging from pop to jazz and more.

AI can learn different styles of paintings. For example, it can learn paintings of impressionism, and then-recreate paintings in the same style.

AI can be trained with past text to find trends and write or translate articles and poems. It also can help collect data and facts for news writing.

Ink wash painting (水墨画), Peking Opera, paper cutting…What will happen if we use these traditional art styles (形式) in cartoons? In fact, Chinese cartoon makers have worked on this since many years ago. Their works are full of Chinese features (特征).

Nobody《浪浪山小妖怪》 is the first long cartoon movie from the popular Chinese Folktales series. It showed in cinemas on August 2, 2025. The main1 of the film is the story of four 2 little monsters: a pig, a toad, a chimpanzee and a mink.

They dress up themselves as the Buddhist Monk Xuanzang and his three followers—including the famous Monkey King, the3 of the 16th-century classic Journey to the West. They decide on their plan and take a risk to get the sacred(神圣的) Buddhist books, hoping to live forever. This also gives a4 that people should not look for eternal life blindly.
