  • 8、①What will the world of tomorrow be like? Many people today believe that technology (科技) is going to help solve some problems we have today. New technology may solve old problems, and it may also create new ones. No technology is perfect. Each has advantages and disadvantages. Here are three examples.

②When we dream about the future, many of us think that we will be able to fly to the sky in our own flying cars. We could fly at 480km per hour, avoiding traffic lights and busy roads. However, if too many flying cars are in the air, there will be trouble with traffic control.

③3-D printing is another new technology for the future. 3-D printers are already used to make life-size models of car parts   (部件), and man-made body parts, like ears. As we move into the future, 3-D printing will change the way we make things and the way we treat sick people. The disadvantage is that such a machine is very expensive.

④Finally, people are trying to make a robot suit (套装). This is an electronic suit. It allows people to lift heavy things and walk a long way. It might help people walk again after an illness or an accident. However, one disadvantage at the moment is the cost.

⑤It is easy to imagine a future. We will be able to fly to work, print out a new pair of shoes or lift a car above our heads. Although there are some problems to solve, we can certainly dream of a world. In this world, technology makes people's life easier and safer, and it can solve some of the most difficult problems we have today.

(1)、How does the writer start the passage?
    A、By asking a question. B、By giving a report. C、By giving advice. D、By telling a story.

A、It can control air traffic for flying cars. B、It allows people to lift heavy objects and walk long distances. C、It reduces the cost of 3-D printed medical parts. D、It replaces the need for human workers in factories.
(3)、Which one of the following is NOT true?
A、If too many flying cars are in the air, there will be problems with traffic control. B、3-D printing won't change the way we make things. C、A robot suit costs too much at the moment. D、Technology can solve some of the most difficult problems we have today.
(4)、What would be the best structure of this passage?
    A、 B、 C、 D、
(5)、What is the theme (主题) of the passage?
    A、Traffic. B、Machines. C、Clothes. D、Technology.
  • 9、Two Friends, One Friendship

Mei and I have been best friends since we were in third grade. Even though we're as different as night and day, our friendship has only grown stronger over the years.

Physically, we look nothing alike. Mei is tall and thin with straight black hair that falls past her shoulders, while I'm shorter and have curly brown hair that I usually wear in a ponytail. Our personalities are just as different: Mei is outgoing and loves being the center of attention—she's the star of our school's drama club and never gets nervous speaking in front of crowds. I, on the other hand, am quiet and prefer one-on-one conversations. I'd rather read a book in the library than go to a loud party.

But despite these differences, we have a lot in common. We both love animals—Mei has a pet rabbit named Snowball, and I have a dog called Max—and we often volunteer at the local animal shelter on weekends. We're also both passionate about environmental protection; last month, we organized a school clean-up day together. Academically, we balance each other out: Mei is excellent at math and helps me with equations, while I'm better at English and help her write essays.

What I love most about our friendship is that Mei encourages me to step out of my comfort zone—like when she convinced me to join the school newspaper—and I help her slow down and appreciate quiet moments. Our differences don't divide us; they make our friendship special.

(1)、How long have Mei and the writer been friends?
A、Since kindergarten. B、Since third grade. C、Since middle school. D、For one year.
    (2)、What is Mei like?
A、Shy and quiet. B、Tall with curly hair. C、Outgoing and confident. D、Short and thin.
(3)、What do they both enjoy doing?
A、Acting in plays. B、Reading books. C、Volunteering at an animal shelter. D、Going to loud parties.
    (4)、What makes their friendship special?
A、They are exactly the same. B、Their differences complement each other. C、They have known each other for a short time. D、They live in the same neighborhood.

  • 11、Animals are people's good friends. Many people hope to talk with their pets in everyday life. This may sound too good to be true, but scientists are now using AI to help make this dream come true.

Karen Bakker, a teacher at the University of British Columbia in Canada, believes that AI will bring humans (人类) closer to the world of animals and plants in the future. "AI helps humans talk with bats and bees," Bakker said. How does it work?

When bats talk with each other, scientists first record their sounds and input (输入) them into a computer. Then, they use AI to find out what the bats say and try to speak back to them. Humans cannot hear these sounds with their own ears, but AI makes it possible for us to understand and "speak" back to the bats by training a computer to "speak" like a bat.

Scientists also found an interesting fact: When baby bats start to learn to "speak", mother bats often lower (降低) their voices. However, human mothers often raise (提高) their voices during this time.

As for bees, scientists use a computer to both listen to and watch them in order to study their language. Scientists now know how bees send messages like "stop". They even made a robot bee that can talk with other bees.

(1)、What does the underlined word "This" refer to?
A、Keeping pets. B、Talking with pets. C、Using AI to help animals. D、Making friends with animals.
(2)、What do we know about mother bats?
A、They never talk with their babies. B、They are good at looking after babies. C、They act the same way as human mothers do. D、They often talk to their babies in a lower voice.
(3)、Why does the writer write the passage?
A、To advise us to use AI to talk with bees and bats. B、To tell us an interesting talk between bees and bats. C、To show us the scientists' care for the bees and bats. D、To show us how scientists use AI to talk with bees and bats.

My family had never done anything different before. So when Aunt Jen invited us to her 1 spring farm party, I was really excited. I decided to make the day special, so I baked cupcakes for the party and decorated them to look like soft sheep by using some 2 .

  • 18、 阅读短文,根据短文内容,将下面的句子还原到文章中,使短文内容完整。每个选项仅使用一次,有一个多余选项。

Talk to people you disagree with

Everyone sometimes has disagreements with friends or family members. For example, you might not agree about what game to play or which restaurant makes the best pizza.  Disagreements are uncomfortable. There are some steps you can take to make the conversation meaningful. Here is how.

Let them know that you're paying attention to them by listening carefully with interest. Another way to show that you're listening is by asking questions or repeating what they said. You can start by saying, "OK. I understand you. You are saying…"

When someone has an opinion you don't agree with, don't pay too much attention to it. Avoid using impolite adjectives, like "stupid" "foolish" or "silly". Instead, focus on speaking calmly (沉着地). For example, you may begin with "I feel" or "I see this in another way".

If you have a strong opinion, it's better to stick to the facts instead of feelings.  Then relax your shoulders and speak in a calm voice. If you are stopped by some person, you can remind the person that it's your turn to speak. Then give him another chance to speak later.

If you find that you can't change the other person's mind, and they may not change yours. Still, look for the points you agree on.  In the end, it's worth the effort because healthy communication builds strong relationships and communities.

    A. Even if you disagree with someone, you can still listen to what they say.

    B. You may also get a better understanding of each other's opinion.

    C. If this happens to you, you'd better say sorry to your friends.

    D. Sometimes you may disagree with your friends about more serious subjects.

    E. Start by asking if you can share your opinion.

What will you do if you have disagreements with your friends?(No more than 15 words.)

Lightning usually destroys (破坏) trees it hits. But scientists have found an amazing tree. It not only lives through lightning strikes (击中) but actually grows better because of them!

For years, scientists thought lightning was only bad for trees. But as they explored places like the Amazon rainforest, they started to think there could be trees that fight against lightning. It wasn't until about 100 years ago that such "super trees" were discovered. Now, they know of a tree that uses lightning's power to kill nearby trees and get more sunlight and nutrients (营养) for itself.

In 2015, scientist Evan Gora saw a Dipteryx oleifera tree, which had been struck by strong lightning. It wasn't badly harmed while the neighboring trees were killed. Scientists thought this tree could handle lightning, but there was no way to be sure.

Gora and his team saw more of these trees that grew well after lightning strikes. So they did a study. They followed 93 trees struck by lightning for 2—6 years. They found that all 9 Dipteryx oleifera trees in the study survived with little harm. But 84 other trees were badly hurt, and 64% of them died within two years.

These Dipteryx oleifera trees are very tall and have wide tops, making them 68% more likely to be struck by lightning than other trees. During the study, one of the Dipteryx trees was struck twice in 5 years yet continued to grow well.

At present, more studies suggest that these trees attract (吸引) lightning on purpose to destroy other trees and grow better. Scientists are not sure how these trees survive lightning, but they guess it may involve the trees' ability to carry electricity. They are also interested in other trees with similar characteristics.

(1)、What is special about the Dipteryx oleifera tree?
A、It dies quickly after lightning strikes. B、It takes in nutrients directly from lightning. C、It grows better after being struck by lightning. D、It avoids lightning by hiding under other trees.
(2)、What does the underlined word "handle" in Paragraph 3 mean?
    A、Mix up. B、Give out. C、Suffer from. D、Deal with.
(3)、Why do Dipteryx oleifera trees attract lightning?
A、To get more water from the sky. B、To kill nearby trees for growth. C、To become shorter and stronger. D、To protect other trees around them.
(4)、What might scientists do next according to the text?
A、Plant more Dipteryx oleifera trees. B、Study how trees attract lightning better. C、Find out where Dipteryx oleifera trees live. D、Look for more trees that can survive lightning.

He thought of Mullet Fingers, the wild boy who cared about animals more than himself. He thought of brave Beatrice who helped even when it was hard. Roy had tried to stay out of trouble. He liked quiet. But now, staying quiet didn't feel right.

He stepped up to the microphone (话筒).

"Excuse me," he said, voice shaking. "Before you dig…you should know the truth."

    The crowd (人群) grew quiet.

"There are owls living here," Roy said. "They're small. They're scared. And if you build here, you'll destroy their homes."

Someone in the crowd laughed. A reporter asked, "How do you know that?"

"Because I saw them. I stood right there and watched them. They live here. They belong here. And they matter."

The manager stepped forward, "This is not your business, kid."

Roy turned to face him. His fear turned into something else—strength.

"It's my business. It's everyone's business. We can't just destroy what we don't see. Progress should not come at the cost of wonder," he said.

His hands stopped shaking. People in the crowd began whispering. One mother held her child's hand. A teacher nodded. Even the manager looked uncertain.

Roy didn't know what would happen next. But he did what he could. He spoke the truth.

Roy used to be scared. But doing the right thing made him stronger.

Sometimes, doing what you can is enough to shift (改变) the wind.
