11、Protection still needed
You must have heard a lot about how people protect the Palace Museum, the Suzhou gardens and other ancient architectural sites (建筑遗址). Unfortunately, many of them didn't get enough protection.
On Sep 29, a national list of 20th century Chinese architectural heritage (遗产) sites was published in Beijing.
The Great Hall of the People in Beijing and the Russian-style Saint Sofia Cathedral (圣索菲亚教堂) in Harbin, Heilongjiang are good examples.
"Masterpieces of the 20th century show that Chinese architects' spirit and skills were passed down well," said Shan Jixiang, head of the Chinese Society of Cultural Relics (中国文物学会). "And they need to be passed on to modern times."
In the late 1980s, the old Ju'er Hutong courtyards in Beijing were rebuilt in a modern style. The project didn't change the traditional Chinese look of the buildings, but gave people there more room to live. But some of the people there didn't take good care of it. They pulled down the walls and built rooms as they wished.
"Masterpieces of the last century should also be treated as culture heritage sites rather than general buildings. Otherwise, historical information will be lost." Shan said.
A. It includes 98 architectural sites and reminds people to protect those masterpieces (杰作) , reported China Daily.
B. I have learned much about the ancient architectural sites.
C. It even won the United Nations World Habitat Award in 1992.
D. But what about some more recent ones, such as those built in the last century?
E. Many famous landmarks (地标) and Western-style architectural sites were named on the list.
F. However, many of these buildings didn't get much attention from the public and have been destroyed.

12、A live streaming platform (直播平台) once tried to broadcast (播出) classroom situations live, including students having classes or self-studying. It raised a heated discussion. Here are some students' opinions.
Student A: I agree with it. When I watched the videos, I saw some comments (评价) from adults like "I admire the way they focus on studying. I want to go back to my school time." The live streaming show reminds adults of their wonderful memories of school. It's a good thing.
Student B: I support the idea. Students' parents can see what they are doing at school. It will help them know their children better. What's more, I think if students know they are on a live show, they will behave themselves. Teachers will try to make their classes more interesting.
Student C: In my opinion, it's bad to show students' performances in the classroom on the Internet. It's a violation (侵犯) of privacy. Not only can the parents of these kids watch it on their computers or mobile phones, but also other people in society can watch it. It's a safety threat (威胁), because bad people may make use of the videos illegally (非法地) and hurt these students.
Student D: This act doesn't respect students. Through the live broadcast, people across the country can see the students' acts without those students even knowing about it. If it is an open class and the school has got the students' permission, it will be fine. But now it seems that the platform is directly putting the videos on the Internet without permission.

14、"Humans can develop certain abilities we aren't born with by practicing animals' movements," the traditional Chinese Wushu lovers believed in the past—and still do today.
Chinese Five-Animal Exercises, also known as Wuqinxi, are the first complete set of qigong exercises following the movements of animals: monkeys, deer, birds, bears and tigers. They were created by one of the greatest doctors in Chinese history, Hua Tuo, more than 1,800 years ago.
The Five-Animal Exercises are well-designed to help blood circulation, and let the energy go smoothly in the body so as to improve the health.
"The bear movements are good for the stomach. The tiger movements can reduce the pain in the back. The deer movements help reduce the fat around the waist (腰). The bird movements can help keep our knees healthy and the monkey movements can be good for the heart." said Hua Yi, the 59th inheritor (继承人) of Wuqinxi.
For those new learners, the first few exercises might not go well. You may find it hard to focus. Wear comfortable clothes, keep peaceful in your mind, try to move slowly... Little by little, you'll feel more and more harmonious with nature. You may even feel you become a tiger or a deer, walking in the forest freely.
These exercises need no tools and they are easy to learn. You can search online for the videos and practice them at any time when you feel like relaxing your body and mind. Because it's fun to practice and good for health, Five-Animal Exercises are becoming more and more popular in recent years, not only in China, but also in many other places of the world.
