It's a lovely day. Sarah is going to have a picnic in the park with her friends. She has prepared a lot of food:meat and some vegetables. All are the daily food in our life. But do you know where some of them came from? Let me tell you.
Chickens were once wild birds in the forests of Asia. About 3, 400 years ago, humans began to keep chickens. However, the birds were small and their meat was too hard to eat. So people only kept chickens to fight for sport.
The seeds of the cocoa tree can be made into chocolate. But 2, 000 years ago, people in Central America only drank chocolate. In Europe, chocolate drinks started to get popular in the 1500s when sugar was added.
At first, people were afraid of eating tomatoes because they thought tomatoes were poisonous plants. One day, a brave man ate the first tomato. People were surprised that he didn't die. They tried the tomatoes and found that they tasted nice. Soon tomatoes became one of the best vegetables in the market.
Long before ice cream, water ices were popular all over Asia. During the Tang Dynasty, some people made ice cream from milk. Later, travelers took this idea back to Europe. Soon, many people wanted to try it and it became popular everywhere.

20、阅读短文,根据上下文及所给单词的首字母写出所缺单词。注意使用正确形式,每空限填一词。
"Put yourself in someone else's shoes" is an idiom that means if you imagine yourself to be in another person's s, good or bad, you may understand how they feel, good or bad, or why they have done what they've done.
This idiom comes from the fact that a pair of shoes that fits someone well may not fit another person. Therefore, literally, only if you put on another person's shoes can you feel what it is like to walk in them.
Metaphorically (比喻地) speaking, "their shoes" stands for other people's position. For example, an author was criticized in many r on his latest book, and one of his friends might privately say to himself: "I wouldn't want to be in his shoes now". That is, p that nothing happened doesn't work at all, and he certainly doesn't want to be hurtful. By trying to "put on their shoes", we try to imagine ourselves in their position, by seeing things from their point of view, by thinking about how we would want to be t if we were them.
Harper Lee, of course, has expressed this idea best in her novel To Kill a Mockingbird: "You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view—until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it." In g, it is a better idea to put yourself in his shoes for a while before judging a person.
