Greetings  France! We' re having  nice time in the Alps, near Mont Blanc. We' re not skiing. Actually, we  (climb) mountains at the moment. The mountains look good at this time of the year. There are lots of wildflowers around. 

Hope you like  (we) postcard! We had lunch in a nice restaurant today and bought some postcards here. We want  (send) you one because the picture on it is so nice. It is a bit small in size,  the view is very clear and beautiful!

The food is nice too. Lucas had French fries and said they were  (good) in the world. I tried some  (sandwich) and ice cream. They tasted  (real)delicious, but the chocolate was too sweet! Sorry, I must  (go) now. I'm feeling hungry again after an afternoon hiking! See you soon.

A 13-year-old girl in India  (救) herself and her family from some monkeys by thinking fast. 

Earlier in April, it was a quiet afternoon and everything was in  (和平). Nikita was playing with her 15-month-old sister Vamika inside the house. Their other family members were in different rooms. 

 (突然地), a group of five to six monkeys came into the house. The girls got (害怕的). The monkeys started throwing(扔) things here and there. Then a monkey climbed onto their table. One even ran to them  (几个;一些) times. 

At that time, Nikita saw an AI voice toy on the  (冰箱). She moved close to the kitchen and asked the toy to play sounds of a dog barking(吠叫). "Because of that barking sound, the monkeys ran away  (快速地). It was quite useful. We are thankful for it!" she told People Magazine. 

Nikita's mother said they often saw monkeys in this  (地区). But it was the first time to see monkeys in their house. Nikita's story shows us that it's important to keep calm when we are in  (危险) and that"  (科技) can save our lives". 

There was a talent show with a prize of 200 dollars in a small town. As a(n)  girl, Lily wanted to join in but wasn't confident enough. Her friends and family  her all the time. In order to win the show, her teacher helped her  a plan to practise. In the end, Lily beat all the other boys and girls and became the . She used the money to help the poor children and it won many fans. 

Last weekend, I went on a trip to a small village with my family. It was about two hours by car from the city, and I was looking forward to 1 a peaceful time away from school and work. When we 2 , the first thing I noticed was the quietness of the village. There were no cars honking(按喇叭), and the streets were surrounded(被包围) by trees. The air felt 3 and clean, unlike the city, where the air is always polluted(被污染).

Clubs Making a Difference for the Earth

Joining a club to help to protect the environment(环境) can be both fun and useful. Here's an interview with Alex and Mia. They have started clubs at their schools to help the earth. 

· What is the goal of your club?

Alex: My club, the" Clean Air Group", focuses on reducing(减少) air pollution. We encourage students to ride bikes and use public transport to cut down on air pollution. 

Mia:  Our goal is to create community gardens in our school and neighbourhood to provide fresh vegetables. 

· How did you come up with the idea for your club?

Alex:  And I realized how much pollution they were producing. I wanted to do something to help to reduce it. 

Mia: I've always enjoyed gardening with my family. I learned about how important plants are for the environment, so why not start a club to let others experience it?

Alex: We organize "No Car Days". Students leave their cars at home and walk, ride a bike or take the bus. We also invite guest speakers to talk about air pollution and its influence on our planet. 

Mia: We plant and take good care of school gardens. We give away some of the products from our gardens to local food banks. 

· What influence has your club had so far?

Alex: A lot of students now use bikes or carpool(拼车) more often. It's great to see people being more mindful of how they travel. 

Mia: Our gardens are growing all the time.  It has brought people together and made the school a greener and more popular place.

Amur tigers, also known as Siberian tigers, live in the forests in northeastern China and Russian Far East. Unlike lions that live in groups, tigers live alone. 

Amur tigers are really cool animals. They' re the world's biggest cats. A grown-up Amur tiger can weigh up to about 600 pounds. A hungry one can even eat more than 50 pounds in one night. 

Amur tigers are great hunters. They have thick yellow fur with black stripes(条纹), and each tiger's stripe pattern is different. The stripes help them hide when they hunt. Amur tigers usually hunt at night because they have great eyesight and hearing. Their eyesight is six times better than ours. They can run fast and travel long distances to find food like deer, wild boar, and even smaller bears. 

Amur tigers are in danger. They almost disappeared in the early 20th century because people killed them for their fur and bones. Sadly, only 40 were left in the wild at that time. In fact, they' re still in trouble now because people keep hunting them. Also, forests are getting smaller because of illegal logging(非法伐木) and new roads. It's hard for Amur tigers to find food and move around. 

In order to protect Amur tigers, countries and governments are setting up nature parks. Many people are working hard to save these tigers by stopping hunting and protecting their forests. Scientists believe there are about 540 Amur tigers living in the wild today. The situation is becoming better, but there's still a long way to go. 

One day, the students at Sunshine International School filled in papers about their experiences at the school. The teachers looked at all the answers. The students were very happy with the teachers, the buildings and the after-school activities. However, everybody disliked the school lunches. 

The head teacher thought about this. She asked some students to find out more. She told them to ask students what exactly they wanted on the lunch menu. 

Li Ming, Nick, Karen and Sarah all offered to help out. They named their group the" Lunch Committee(委员会)". Nick thought they sounded important. 

"The school doesn't give students enough choices, " said Karen. "We have food for vegetarians. It is never very nice to have potatoes, cabbage and tomatoes all the time. "

"Yes！" Li Ming agreed. 

"I think that the menu is too American. Not everyone likes burgers and pasta. We should have dishes from different countries, " said Sarah. 

"We should offer more dessert choices. Dessert is the best part of any meal, " said Nick excitedly. "We need…"

Karen cut in, "We need more fruit and salad. "

Sarah agreed with Karen. 

"We should ask them for a chocolate fountain(喷泉), " Nick said happily. 

The four friends talked to different groups of students. Then they took the ideas and the students' advice to the cooks. 

After that, the cooks made changes to the lunch menus. They offered menus for students with different eating habits. They added more fruit and vegetables. They made noodles, dumplings, small pies and soups. Everyone was happy, except for Nick. 

"I hate salad and fresh fruit, " he said sadly. "I really want a chocolate fountain. "

Times change! The day I heard that the Bright Bookstore was closing, I was sad. The bookstore had been in the neighbourhood for about 50 years, and it was a great place where people could know each other through their love for books. 

When I met old Tim, the store's owner, he said it was difficult to run a traditional bookstore. Most young people read e-books and more people bought books online. 

Childhood memories came back to me so clearly. A group of us kids often went to the stores, spending hours reading there or just talking with Tim. Tim encouraged us to share our ideas by writing them on a large board. 

A few months later, I was back and was surprised to see that the Bright Bookstore was still open for business. It was still old, but inside it was like a different world. In an area, a book reading was going on. Nearby, some readers were sharing their ideas on a screen instead of the large board. Some were reading on computers. It even had a coffee shop selling nice food. Clearly, the Bright Bookstore was in good, creative hands. Tim told me that there were more community events in the coffee shop such as book readings and even music and movie nights. 

"Well, as you can see, technology and creativity have brought my old bookstore into the21st century! I'm so glad to see that everything I wanted it to offer to the community is still here, " said Tim. 

No matter how times change, there are always people who love reading. Traditional bookstores should also change in a creative way.
