It's 5:30 a. m. and your phone rings. A police officer says someone broke into a store and took some expensive items. They need you right away. It is your job to study the whole scene for clues that will help catch the thief(小偷). You are a crime scene investigator(调查者), and the game is on. 

Outside the store, you see a broken window, but there is no glass on the street. There are shoe prints,and marks made by a vehicle' s tires. You look at the shoe prints. They're large, so you're likely looking for a man. You photograph the shoe's pattern. This can tell you the type of shoe. You then measure the space between the shoe prints. You now know how long the person's steps were. This gives you an idea of how tall the thief was.

As you follow the shoe prints over to the tire marks, the spaces between the steps get bigger. They lead to the passenger' s side of the vehicle(车辆). Now you know the thief probably didn't work alone. You photograph the tire marks. They can help you find out the type of vehicle and the direction it went.

The most important clues will come from a person's body. You find some fingerprints near the broken window. Using a computer, you can compare these prints against millions of others. You also find a hair.You keep it, because you know hair contains a person's DNA. You can compare this with other people's DNA, too. If you find a match for the fingerprint or the DNA, you will know who was in the store.

Will you find the thief? You now have a lot of information! So it's possible. For a crime scene investigator, it's all in a day's work.

One day, a woman bought a parrot from a pet store. However, the woman decided to 1 the parrot to the store the next day. "This bird doesn't 2 ," she told the pet store owner. "Does he have a 3 ?" the owner asked. "Parrots enjoy watching themselves in it." So the woman bought one and left.

Fostering(暂时抚养) a pet needs a person who has a big heart and is willing to love and care for a pet.Although they will have to say goodbye one day, they still want to take on the responsibility.

In January 2013,I had three dogs of my own and one foster dog, Rockstar, from our local shelter(收容所), BARCS. The shelter was running out of space, so I decided to take in another foster dog. That's when I met Betsy. Betsy was a friendly dog, enjoying playtime with others, especially with her deflated(泄气的)basketball toy. The day I took her home, she seemed to smile the entire(整个的) car ride.

Betsy quickly became close to my family, especially my son. They loved playing ball and frisbee(飞盘)together. Betsy was full of energy and brought so much joy to our home with her enthusiasm(热情) for life.

At the same time, we started marketing her. Within two weeks, Jason, who had lost one of his dogs, fell in love with her picture and took her home.

Betsy has been a wonderful addition(新成员) to Jason's family, getting along well with his other dogs and even his cat. He takes her on daily walks and even hikes, and I get to see frequent(频繁的) updates of her happy life on Facebook. Betsy's story shows how a foster home can help a great dog find its perfect forever family.

"Are you okay?" Matthew asked from the driver's seat as we hung upside down, trapped(被困在) by our seat belts and covered in sand. I felt the blood rushing to my head, my heart pounding(怦怦跳) like the loud bass(低音吉他) in a car. It reminded me of the four bass-loving brothers who lived across from us growing up. As a little girl, I often wondered if Matthew and I would ever have their friendship.

When Matthew found out he was to have a baby brother, he was over the moon. But to everyone's surprise, "It's a girl!" His disappointment was clear. As soon as I could walk, my big brother was everything to me. But to him, I was an annoying girl, though he found comfort in playing tricks on me.

The sibling relationship is unique, and it's often the longest relationship we have in our lives. After learning that I missed him, Matthew unexpectedly invited me to visit him at university. In his room, he handed me a drink. We didn't need many words; as siblings, we had a simple way of chatting. He knew about my struggles—— the family secrets—— and became my rock.

Years later, when I was excluded(阻止参加) from the family Thanksgiving, he refused to attend without me. Instead, we had dinner—— just the two of us. 

My big brother, once a tormentor (折磨者), had become my protector and friend. But after our off-roading accident, I saw him differently.

"Are you okay? Are you bleeding?" I checked his injuries. The man I'd seen as strong was now human, fragile (脆弱的).

As we got ourselves out of the car, I realized it was time for me to be his protector. Our shared bond had grown even deeper. I looked at my big brother, and we both smiled. Without him, my life would be unimaginably different. It was my turn to protect him. Thankfully we had each other in.

Pets need lots of care and love from their owners. Just like you did when you were little. First, research the correct care for your animals. You can find information in books and online. 

Second, find out routines. Animals like routines, and you're supposed to do things regularly, such as walking your pets, feeding your pets and giving them the care they need.

Third, take them out to exercise. Just like humans, overweight animals are more likely to have health problems and have shorter lives. For dogs, it means daily walks; for parrots, it means spending time out of the cage. Whatever it is, all animals need it. Give your pets a big area and, if possible, let them out every day or every other day to exercise and stretch their muscles.

Fourth, teach your pets simple things. Training isn't just for dogs. 

Fifth, take your pets to the vet regularly. Look for a specialized vet. He can tell you all about the proper care that your pets need.

Enjoying Peking roast duck is one of the must-dos when people travel to Beijing.

When serving the dish, the chef and duck show up before the diners. The chef cuts off parts of the skin first,with the meat then  into juicy slices(薄片), enough to serve a full meal for four or five. Together served   thin pancakes, a sweet bean paste and a plate of cucumber bars, spring onions or radishes.Rolled into little envelopes, these duck pancakes are a(n)  experience of feeling the city.

It is said that Peking roast duck could go back to the Ming Dynasty(1368–1644). In the 1420s,Emperor Chengzu moved the country's capital from Nanjing to Beijing. Chefs working for the royal family also moved to Beijing,  they came up with this new way to cook duck.

Founded in 1416, Bianyifang(便宜坊)is Peking roast duck restaurant in Beijing. It cooks ducks in a menlu(焖炉), an enclosed oven, making the birds' skin crisp and  . In 1864, the Quanjude(全聚德) restaurant was setup ịn the city, which has won worldwide   for its gualu(挂炉), hanging-oven style of cooking the ducks. In this   style, ducks are roasted inside an open oven with his mother a matter duck is unduly single position, though. Chinese people believe that other kinds of poultry(家禽) are hot in nature and bring more heat to the body. The duck, however, moderate(温和的), or even slightly cold, because it comes from water. This is believed to be good for people's health.

An experience in China lets me see how food can cross cultures. A Chinese friend rushed me to a Beijing restaurant to show me a delicious dish, promising something I had never seen before that would change how I thought about food forever.

It was a bowl of banmian(拌面). Although delicious, I couldn't help feeling I had tried this dish before. As I twisted(搅动) the noodles with my chopsticks, it hit me with how they look: isn't this food just Chinese Spaghetti?

I had grown up hearing stories of the Italian businessman and explorer Marco Polo bringing back noodles from his journeys in China in the 13th century. But the noodles have been taking Europe from China much earlier, with the help of European traders moving across Central Asia. British Spaghetti shows that, even after reaching Italy, the food kept changing.

The first bites of my meal made me consider the historical journey of noodles, and I was inspired to take a journey through my own history. With my father's family being Italian, spaghetti was never far away. I remember from my grandma that the only way to tell if spaghetti is cooked properly is by throwing it at the wall. If it sticks, it's ready to eat. If it falls, it still needs time to cook. I wondered if the kitchen walls at this restaurant had noodles thrown at them.

This journey to China not only allowed me to enjoy the deliciousness of food, but also deeply understand the difference and mix of culture. Every bite of the noodles tells a story of years, and I was lucky to be part of it.

Millions of people in China are now sharing parts of their lives with the world by videos on their phones. Some people send videos of personal events like holidays or weddings. Using live streaming(网络直播) is particularly popular among the people aged from 18 to 35.

Besides leaving danmu comments(评论), they can also communicate directly with the hosts by buying virtual gifts such as flowers, toys and cars for them online. One example was an Olympic swimmer. She did a one-hour live broadcast which attracted more than 11 million viewers.

What's more, live streaming allows users to communicate with strangers and express themselves. A 19-year-old college student says she spends three to four hours each week chatting and singing with viewers through one app called Ingkee. "Sometimes I feel lonely and want to talk to people," she says. "It feels nice when viewers are paying attention to me."

However, there are worries about the misuse of live streaming. One live streamer promised to correct her unsuitable and impolite language after warnings from government officials. As there are more than 80 apps and300 websites for live streaming in China, the Internet regulator(监管机构) can hardly monitor the content all the time.

"We support the use of live streaming. But people should be aware of the two sides of it," one of the officials said.

People often 1 someone with a serious disability to be inactive, maybe even angry. I like to surprise them by showing that I live a very adventurous and fulfilling life without my limbs(四肢). 

I often ask myself the very question:"Nick, how can you be so happy?" Here is my answer: I found happiness when I realized that as 2 as I may be,I am the perfect Nick Vuicic. I do believe my life can be like anyone else's.
