①What would you like for lunch? Maybe, a battery? Although it sounds unusual, this has already been realized by scientists as they develop electronic things you can eat.

②Robofood, a program led by Dario Floreano from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne, Switzerland, has been the pioneer. Together with scientists from Wageningen University, the Netherlands, it has made a new drone (无人机). Half of the parts inside are edible (可食用的)! The program plans to invent robots that can be eaten by mixing food science and robots in a new way.

④Robofood also developed an edible sensor (感应器) to help monitor (监控) stomach sickness. It's eaten by the sick to check the conditions inside. Unlike other sensors today, it's designed to be digested (消化) in less than 24 hours, avoiding the risk of leaving any remains inside the body.

⑤The invention of Robofood also helps with environmental protection. The world's first fully edible batteries can help address the growing problem of throwing away used batteries. The battery's anode (阳极) and cathode (阴极) are made of vitamin B2 and another natural element (元素) that can be found in many fruits including apples. So the new battery can be more friendly for nature.

Imagine that you have woken up on the first day of your vacation. You enjoy a delicious breakfast, take a walk on the beach, and read the morning newspaper as you drink coffee. You are feeling happy and relaxed. But you may start to feel bored by the time the late afternoon comes around! 

If you have ever felt like this, you're not alone. It turns out that having unlimited (无限的) free time is not always as great as we expected. What is the best amount (数量) of free time for our happiness?

Researchers tried to answer this question by surveying tens of thousands of people, collecting data (数据) on how they spent their time and how happy they were. After looking at the data, the research team found that having less than two hours of free time a day was not enough to be happy. People with under two hours of free time a day usually had more stress. It means that they were simply too busy with work to get their happiness.

The fact that being too busy cuts happiness is true. It might lead to the answer that more free time is simply better. Surprisingly, having a lot of free time is not a panacea (灵丹妙药) for happiness. People surely get a certain sense of joy from finishing tasks. Having more than five hours of free time a day makes us lose the sense of joy. It is in fact cutting our happiness. But I think it is how we spend our free time that matters. When free time is used in more active ways, like playing a team sport, then five or more hours a day can keep or even produce happiness. However, spending five or more hours of free time alone can stop happiness.

On a warm summer evening, my wife and I were on our way to the store by my motorcycle, when I noticed a man sitting on the sidewalk under a street light. Something about him made us stop.

His eyes were fixed on an object only he could see. His beard(胡子) was long and messy, much like his hair. We tried asking him, but he showed no signs of hearing or understanding us. It was clear that he was in need of help.

We thought for a while about what we could do. "He looks hungry," my wife said, "but there is no point in giving him money." I agreed, "Let's buy him a loaf of bread instead," I suggested.

It took us a while to finish our shopping. When we returned, the man wasn't there.

Feeling despondent, we decided to go home, wondering what to do with the bread. We had just gone a hundred meters when we saw him again. Driven by hunger, he had crossed the road and was seated with a family of migrant workers. Surprisingly, he looked to be quite welcome. The family had accepted him without question. I stopped my motorcycle far away and watched. 

It was dinner time. The man was eating hungrily from a plate, the same as the ones from which the family enjoyed their meals. The lady in the family kept an eye on the stranger, making sure that his plate was not empty.

We watched for a while. Then, overcome with guilt, we placed the bread near the man and left, but not before learning the true meaning of giving and sharing. That family was far from rich, but they shared what they had, not something they had no use for, or something they could easily afford, like a loaf of bread.
