Animals in the Past
We can't see these animals, but they can teach us important lessons.
Dodo
Dodos were large birds. They only lived on the islands of Mauritius. They had very small wings, so they couldn't fly. They couldn't run fast either because they had short legs. People first visited Mauritius in the 16th century(世纪) and they found that dodos tasted good and were easy to catch. By the end of the 17th century, there were no dodos left.
Woolly mammoth
A woolly mammoth looked like an elephant.It was up to 4 metres tall and weighed up to 6tons. It had a trunk like an elephant. It had big tusks( 长牙 ) too, so it could find grass under the snow. Woolly mammoths also had brown and very long hair. It helped them stay warm in cold weather. Most woolly mammoths disappeared(消失) about 10,000 years ago.
