The summer vacation is coming! It's a great time for you to relax and have fun, but also to learn and grow. Here are some ideas for you:

First, you can go on a trip to see new places and meet people from different places. You'll learn about different cultures and have lots of fun!

Second, learn some life skills (生活技能). Maybe you can try cooking or doing housework. You can also help look after your little brother or sister. You will use these skills in your life one day.

Third, exercise more. Keep going for a run, swim, or ride a bike with your friends. It's fun and it can keep you healthy!

Don't forget to study. Go over what you learned last term and read good books every day. It'll help you get ready for (为……做准备) the next school year.

With these ideas, your summer vacation will be fun and meaningful for sure! Enjoy it!

The World Book Day falls on April 23rd every year. It encourages more people to read. 

Reading is a good way to relax. When we are tired or sad, we can read a book and forget (忘记) about our problems for a while. We can sit in a comfortable (舒服的) chair and read a book for hours. 

Reading is fun because we can know what other places are like and learn about some interesting things from books. 

Reading is meaningful. We can learn a lot from books.  We can also read books about famous people and their stories. These books can teach us how to be a good person.

 We can read at any place we want, like in our room, in the park, or even in the car.

①The weather is getting hotter. You are thirsty after playing basketball or riding home from school. A cold drink may be just the thing. But be careful about what you are drinking. Something that looks cool may not be good for your health.

②There are plenty of "energy drinks" in the market. Most of them have beautiful colours and cool names. The lists on them tell you they are helpful to your health. Sounds great! But after a careful check, you may find that most energy drinks have lots of caffeine (咖啡因) in them. These drinks are especially aimed at young people, students, busy people and sports players. Makers sometimes say their drinks make you better at sports and can keep you awake. But be careful not to drink too much.

③Caffeine makes your heart beat fast. Because of this, the International Olympic Committee (国际奥委会) has limited its use. Caffeine in most energy drinks is at least as strong as that in a cup of coffee or tea. Possible health dangers have something to do with energy drinks. Just one box of energy drink can make you nervous, have difficulty sleeping and can even cause heart problems. Scientists say that teenagers should be stopped from taking drinks with a lot of caffeine in them.

④So we should stay away from the energy drinks to keep healthy.

Alan doesn't have a dog. But one day, he tells his friends, "I have a cute black dog and her name is Stella. She likes eating bananas and playing with balls."

After school, Alan's friends want to go home with him and see the dog. "No, you can't come because Stella is afraid to see lots of people," lies Alan. "We can play with her one by one," Alan's friends say.

Alan still lies, "But we want to go out today. You can come to my home tomorrow."

Then, Alan runs home and tells his mother about it. "It's not right to lie," says Mom. Alan knows he is wrong, but what can he do now?

The next day, Alan is ill and doesn't go to school. In the evening, Alan's friends come to Alan's home. One of them brings some bananas. "We see Stella outside. She's not black but yellow. She doesn't like playing with balls and she isn't afraid to see many people. But she likes eating bananas," Alan's friends say.

Alan can't believe (相信) it and he runs outside. Oh, his mother buys him a dog. Alan thanks his mother. Then he tells the truth (真相) to his friends and says sorry to them.

Jack is a boy from the USA. He is the only child of his parents, but his mother is strict with him. His mother always asks him to do many things. He has to help his mother 1 housework, such as cleaning the room, doing the 2 and making the bed. But his friend Mike doesn't 3 to do housework. Jack feels terrible and wants to 4 the rules with his mother.

Everyone in China likes dumplings very much,  there are many different kinds of dumplings. Some have beef and vegetables in them, and some have eggs and carrots. But I love eating dumplings  vegetables and pork.

Usually, people make dumplings at home. If you have no time make them, you can buy them in a supermarket. Then you can take them home and eat them with vinegar (醋).

The Spring Festival is very important in China. When it comes, we make dumplings, and usually we put a coin (硬币) in a dumpling. We think if one eats  dumpling with the coin in it, he will be lucky in the new year  this tradition means good luck.

Stop wasting food at school

According to school lunch director Marge Kaplan, the children are trying to think in a wise way about the food they put on their plates. We now have about 15% less waste and we think this percentage will grow as more children join in the activities. 

The school dinning hall now offers two sizes for all main meals: small and large. This week they'll replace single bread rolls with pieces of bread. You can take as many slices as you want, but one at a time to save waste.

From next week you'll be able to put any waste from fresh fruit and vegetables into the special green bin at the back of the dinning hall. Miss Norris, the school gardener, will put them into a big basket in the school's vegetable garden.

I'm Barry.  There are six members in my family—my parents, my grandparents, my sister and me. 

Everyone is having a good time at home. My grandma is enjoying a Kunqu opera show on TV. My father loves reading.  Now he is reading a book about teaching skills. My mother likes gardening.  My sister Kate likes drawing. Now she is drawing a picture in her room. What am I doing?  It can help me relax. 

I love to spend the weekend with my family members. 

Many people get to know a middle-aged man from a video on Douyin. In the video, the man is telling some tourists about the buildings in the Summer Palace (颐和园). He knows the buildings so well that many people think he is a guide. But he is wearing the clothes of a cleaner and has a broom (扫帚) in his hand. So what does he do? A cleaner or a guide?

In fact, the man is a cleaner and his name is Zhang Xu. Every day, he begins to work at 5:00 a. m. and goes home at 3:00 p. m. He walks about 40, 000 steps in the palace every day. He sees the buildings in it every day, so he can say the names of them. At the same time, Zhang has a strong love for traditional buildings. In his free time, he reads a lot of books about them. So he can tell the stories behind them.

Our country is very big, so the weather in different cities is usually not the same. Let's look at some cities in December. 

It's around 12℃~16℃ in Xiamen. It is cloudy most of the days. The temperature may be 16℃ at 2 p. m. You can bring some long shirts. It is a good place to spend winter by the sea. You can swim in the sea or watch the sun come up. 

It is always warm in Guangzhou. It's around 13℃~20℃. Sometimes it rains, too. So, take an umbrella with you when you travel to Guangzhou. Many Chinese in the north love to spend a warm winter in Guangzhou. You can go to the parks and enjoy the beautiful flowers. Hong Kong is also not far from here. 

In Harbin, It's around -20℃~-9℃. It is very cold. It snows a lot, too. People can play with snow in Harbin. Please wear warm clothes when you come to Harbin. You can go skiing and make snowmen here.
