Last week, our school held a special event called"Chinese Traditional Arts on Campus". 

Many years ago, Saihanba was a beautiful forest in the north of Hebei. It is about 400 kilometers from Beijing. For  (hundred) of years, the emperors liked to go there to hunt. However, in the 1800s, everything started to change. Wars, forest fires, and deforestation  (slow)

turned the green forest into a desert. 

Without  forest, strong sandstorms often hit the Beijing area. In the early 1960s, a group of scientists looked for a way to stop the sand. In the middle of the desert, they  (find) an old tree still standing. "Maybe we can grow trees here again, " they thought. 

In 1962, the first group of tree planters arrived. Life was very hard for  (they). In winter, it was as cold  -40℃. Strong winds blew away the young trees,  these planters didn't give up. 

For over 60 years, three generations（代）of forest workers have worked hard  (bring) back the forest. Today, Saihanba is green again and it  (see) as one of the most important national nature reserves（自然保护区）in China. 

Thanks to these brave workers, there are  (few) sandstorms than before. Saihanba is no longer a desert——it is a great example of how people can change the world through hard work.

Whether you are speaking or listening, look into the eyes of the person you are talking to.  Eye contact can show that you are paying attention and make the other person more interested in what you are saying. 

Use Gestures

Use your hands and face to help express your ideas. Let your whole body join in the conversation.  For a larger group, make your gestures bigger so everyone can see them. 

 By practising the tips above, you can become a better communicator. 

Two summers ago, a whale named Rounder gave birth near the island of Dominica. When the baby was about to be born, eleven other whales from her family swam over to help. They made clicks to communicate with one another. After the baby was born, the whales helped her reach the surface（表面）of the water to breathe by holding her. They stayed with her until she was strong enough to swim by herself. 

Today, scientists are trying to understand the language of whales. They are using new technology to record and study the sounds that whales make. These sounds may express feelings such as care, pain, or joy. If we can understand them, we may learn more about how whales live and how they feel. 

A scientist named David Gruber started a program called CETI. His team includes experts in language, biology, and AI. Their work builds on several years of findings in animal communication, not only in whales but across the animal world. They hope to develop a tool to change whale sounds into human words. 

This work may help us protect animals better. For example, whales use sound to find food and stay in touch with their families. However,noise from ships and machines in the ocean can make life difficult for them.If we can understand what animals are saying, we may be able to make better rules to keep their world safe. 

To celebrate Earth Day, a lively flea market（跳蚤市场）was held on a Saturday in April. The event was organized by a public service center in Shekou. Tao, from the center, said it was to call on more people to care about the environment and bring the community together. About 30 stands were set up by both local and foreign citizens. Many people came to enjoy the event. 

One stand was run by Abigail, a foreign teacher. She gave away her family's old clothes and toys for free. "These are no longer useful to me, but they might help others, " she said. With a smile, many people took things they needed. Another popular stand was run by Mr. Wang, a local citizen. He sold books and toys that once belonged to his daughter. "We' ve sold about 70 books in less than two hours, " he said. Nearby, handmade earrings by Maggie caught the eyes of many young people. She started making them as a hobby and now sells them through her small business. To make the event more exciting, a musician named Mark held a mini-concert. It attracted a large crowd. Later, an American singer surprised everyone by singing a Chinese song. 

The flea market was a fun weekend activity and a great chance to care for the environment. Many people hope for more events like this.
