My husband and I were taking care of Lizzy, our daughter Debra's pet dog, on April 17 while Debra was in hospital. We received a message from our son-in-law, Joe, that Debra was about to give birth. Tom and I sprang from our chairs suddenly. It's a tradition in our family to wait at the hospital of a birth. This would be Debra and Joe's first child.
"You take Lizzy out before we leave, and I'll be waiting for you in the car!" I told Tom. I started the car and waited impatiently. I saw my husband walk out of the front door but at that moment Lizzy shot out and ran down the street at a great speed.
My husband ran after the dog and I followed in my car. "Lizzy! Lizzy!" We shouted as fear filled my heart, we ran after her down our Bellwood Street, "She's running on Wireless Road!" We both cried with fear. Lizzy ran up and down in the busy street. My husband kept running after her, out of breath, I shouted to my husband, "Tom, be careful when you cross the street!"
Within minutes, traffic was actually stopped on Wireless Road. Several good people got out of their cars to help us to get the dog back. Soon, she ran into a safer area and back to our street, With the help of six strangers, we caught her within a few minutes, everyone cheered, and we thanked the helpers again and again.
With Lizzy safely back inside, we drove straight to the hospital at once and were able to see our daughter in the delivery room (产房). My husband and I were forever thankful to the strangers who might have saved Lizzy's life and who enabled us to be there at the beginning of a precious new one.

①Are you tired of people asking the questions, "What's your hobby?" Well, you always hear the same old answers: reading, listening to music, painting and so on. There's nothing wrong with these activities, but maybe it's time for some new ideas.
②For example, how about "yarn bombing"? What's that? Maybe you have heard of knitting (编织) to make sweaters, scarves, gloves and other things. With yarn bombing, people knit different kinds of things, like sweaters for trees or hats for the stones in the park. It's the latest form of artwork. In some cities, people are even paying knitters to decorate public places with their art. Some call it "Knitting Graffiti (涂鸦), " but unlike other forms of graffiti, it is easy to take away, and it doesn't destroy anything.
③Do you like those TV shows in which the police use science to solve crimes? If you do, you can take up "forensic science" as a hobby. That's the science used to find crimes. You can get a set of at-home fingerprint tools and find out who is taking cookies from the cookie box or perhaps who is reading your secret diary.
④Finally, here's a hobby for those who want to have fun and make a little money. It's called "upcycling". You've heard of recycling—you put things like glass, paper and plastic in special boxes so the materials can be used again. Upcyclers take old things and make them into new things. Sometimes they can even sell the things they make. For example, you can take an old book bag, clean it up and decorate it. It will look like a cool new bag. There's even a magazine called Upcycle that is full of ideas. All you need for this is an old thing and a good imagination.
⑤So look around for a new and interesting hobby. Then when someone asks you the question "What's your hobby?", you can give them an answer that they've never heard before.
(1)、What does the underlined word "It" in Paragraph 2 refer to?A、Yarn bombing. B、Graffiti. C、The park. D、Knitting.(2)、What do you need if you take up "forensic science" as a hobby?A、Rich imagination. B、Science magazines. C、Knitting tools. D、Fingerprint tools.(3)、Which of the following is TRUE?A、Knitting Graffiti is difficult to take away. B、A lot of people make a living by upcycling. C、It's a good idea to have a new and interesting hobby. D、The police usually take up forensic science as a hobby.(4)、How is the passage organized?A、

Ragasa (桦加沙), the 18th typhoon of 2025, was a super typhoon with the maximum wind near the center reaching above level 17.
Ragasa was predicted to bring extreme rainfall to southern coastal areas of China, with minimal effect on northern areas. While the typhoon's effects were expected to end by late September, but another typhoon moving west into the South China Sea could affect the area in early October might bring further wind and rain, requiring continued vigilance (警戒).
Although Typhoon warnings would be cancelled as Ragasa weakened after landing, heavy rain and strong winds might still cause secondary disasters such as flooding, mudslides and landslides. Close attention was still essential. Generally, typhoons generated from June to August are classified as "summer typhoons", while those formed from September to November are referred to as "autumn typhoons". From 1949 to 2024, there were 867 "summer typhoons", making it the most active season for typhoons. "Autumn typhoons" totalled 859, accounting for 44% typhoons of each year, and ranking the second-most active period, China Media Group reported.
Ragasa is an "autumn typhoon". According to weather data from 1949 to 2024, "autumn typhoons" tend to be stronger and have a greater effect compared to the summer ones, according to CMG.
From August to September, the tropical( 热 带 的 ) ocean temperatures in the Northern Hemisphere(半球) reach the highest point, creating good conditions for typhoon formation and energy increase. As autumn sets in, cold air becomes more active, speeding up the wind near the typhoon's center, further leading to the intensification of the storm. As a result, the possibility of severe or super typhoons happening in the autumn is higher. Additionally, the combination of "autumn typhoons" and cold air can cause intense rainfall, leading to more severe disasters.
(1)、How does the writer start the passage?A、By listing numbers. B、By giving an example. C、By stating a fact. 20、 阅读下列短文,从下面每小题所给的 A 、B 、C 、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
Though oceans cover about 71 percent of the earth's surface, there's still a lot we don't know about them. Only about 20 percent of the seafloor has been mapped, and the remaining 80 percent is still a secret to us. Some scientists even think that 91 percent of sea animals have yet to be discovered.
So why do we know so little about the deep sea? Well, getting to those depths is very difficult and requires high technology. The first navigable submarine (可驾驶的潜水艇), for example, was built in 1620, and it couldn't go more than five meters below the surface. For a long time, many scientists didn't even think that there could be any life at depths greater than 550 meters and didn't see much need to explore the deep sea.
However, this changed in 1862 when life was discovered as far down as 945 meters below sea level with the help of a digging machine. Ten years later, around 4, 700 species unknown before were discovered. The discovery of new species has brought great hope to scientists in exploring the deep sea.
Since then, high technology has been developed to help explore the deep sea, including satellites. But why is it so difficult? Well, at greater depths, it is freezing, everything is completely dark, and the pressure is greater than that on the surface.
Though we have the difficulties, it's important that we understand the seas. They help control the earth's temperature, produce half of the oxygen in the air and provide us with information about climate change. Our future depends on learning more about our oceans, and it is possible for us to really understand what is ongoing below the surface.
(1)、Why are some numbers listed in Paragraph 1?A、To introduce how important oceans are. B、To discuss why sea animals have yet to be found out. C、To explain that oceans cover a large area of the earth. D、To show that we have only a little understanding of oceans.(2)、What caused the change of exploration into the deep sea?A、High technology. B、Unknown species. C、Pleasant environment. D、Valuable information.(3)、What does the underlined word "it" in the forth paragraph refer to?A、discovering new species B、developing high technology C、exploring the deep sea D、reducing the pressure(4)、What is the structure of the passage?A、①/②③④/⑤ B、①/②③④⑤ C、①②③④/⑤ D、①/②/③④⑤(5)、What can be the best title of this passage?A、Hidden Treasures in Deep Sea B、Unlocked Secrets of Deep Sea C、Deep-Sea Exploration: Into the Freezing Depths D、Deep-Sea Exploration: The Past and the Future
