The Inspiring Story of Wang Xingxing

Hello, everyone! Today I'd like to share a story about Wang Xingxing, the founder of Unitree Robotics.

For twelve children aged between ten and fifteen, Saturdays are spent learning the art of cooking. Their weekly lessons in small classes are so popular that there is a waiting list of 30 children who want to do the course. Parents pay 280 yuan for the course where their children can have fun and learn how to make good food. 

Class member Bill, aged ten, says, "I love my mom's cooking and now I can do it better than her. The teachers always make us laugh, especially when we sit down with them to share the food we've made. "

Flora is twelve, and she says, "I did a meal for ten friends which they really enjoyed. Then my mom suggested I should develop a hobby, instead of doing nothing on weekends. I'm really glad I decided to come, though. "

Their teacher, Philippe, says, "The students are great. They are more focused (专心的) and remember things better than adults, although the kitchen isn't always so tidy when they're cooking! As adults, we're always learning more about food. If parents let their children be interested in cooking while they are young, they'll have enough skills to make food for themselves when they leave home. "

This weekend we made our family meals special because my granddaughter had never had pancakes before.  We each took turns feeding them to her. She loved them. There was a lovely environment at the table and lots of smiles. As I was looking around the table, enjoying this wonderful scene, a gentleman at a nearby table caught my eye. 

 He looked over and smiled from time to time as my granddaughter continued to entertain (使快乐) us all. Suddenly, I had a great idea. 

 And I wanted her to give him the smile card instead of the bill

 The waitress came over and told us that he had passed the smile card on and paid for another table before he left. How great! 

After that, the waitress came back and told us that the second table had now paid for someone else's bill and passed the smile card on too! 

What was really amazing was that by the time we left, half the room had ended up paying for a different table! Isn't that great? 

Tangchang, a town in Chengdu, is well-known for dot shoes. With over 20 types, Tangchang cloth shoes are strong, comfortable and friendly to the environment. In 2018, they were added to Sichuan's intangible cultural heritage list (非物质文化遗产名录). 

63-ycar-old Lai Shufang has spent over 40 years making Tangchang cloth shoes. Now she is a master. She said there are 32 steps to make a pair, but the most important step is making the soles (鞋底). 

Layers (层) of white cloth are glued together with flour paste (糨糊). "To make good paste, we make it at a temperature of 85℃. If it's too low or too high, the paste will not work, " Lai said. Then the pasted layers are dried and cut into different shapes. After this, the layered cloth is beaten again and again until it is tight (紧实的) enough to make soles and upper parts. The next step is to shape the two parts and glue them together. Through repeated polishing, the cloth shoes are ready. 

Lai's hard work touched her son Ai Peng. In 2015, Ai decided to leave his job and help his mother. He used Shu embroidery (蜀绣) to make the shoes look more beautiful and opened a cloth shoe store online. He also set up shop windows to show the steps of making shoes, helping more people learn about the art of cloth shoes.

⑥In 1993, the world's largest hot air airship was built. The AS-300 carried an underslung raft (悬挂式木筏). It allowed a team of French scientists to carry out their treetop researches without too much harm to the rain forest. 

⑦On May 15, 2022, Chinese scientists sent up the latest model of "Jimu No. 1", China's self-developed airship, to collect weather information on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. 

⑧The airship would work at a world-record altitude (海拔) of 9, 032 meters. It was the first time an airship of its size had reached this height, even higher than that of the 8, 849-meter-tall Mount Qomolangma, the highest mountain in the world. 

What do Chinese young people think of the idea of filial piety (孝道)? 

Lihua, 25, Guizhou. We have a saying that filial piety is the first of the hundred virtues (百善孝为先). So you know how important it is for the Chinese to respect and take  of their parents. My mom  a good example for me, too. Every week she goes to visit her mom  takes care of her. Then I got the idea to care for my mom es well. In my opinion, filial piety is  natural thing. Our parents do so many things for us. It's natural that we feel thankful and want  them back. As teenagers, filial piety may just mean not always arguing with parents, and trying to make them happy by behaving well. 

Wang Lining, 14, Shanxi. In China, many schools have , such as cooking for parents, helping wash their feet or writing a thank-you card. By doing these things we develop  love for our parents than before! Confucius believed  only if every-one is good to their parents can they be good to other people. Then there won't be many fights. Then we could bring peace to the world. I think this is a great idea. It means that filial piety is about  not only your parents but also everyone! So I think we all should try  best to be good to our parents. Be there for them when they feel lonely. Help them with housework. Give money to them when they need it. These are all actions of the greatest kindness.
