If traffic noise makes you feel angry, you aren't alone. Researchers say it can really make birds angry, too.
A new study from the Animal Behaviours shows that male yellow warblers(雄性黄莺) in Galápagos Islands get very angry when they hear cars, especially those near busy roads.
The Galápagos Islands, in the Pacific Ocean, are famous as a wildlife wonderland. There are many plants and animals that can't be found anywhere else. That makes them one of the best places for wildlife-watching. However, more and more people are visiting and living there, leading to more cars on the roads.
How does the noise from traffic influence the islands' animals? A research team from the University of Vienna watched 38 male yellow warblers. Half lived near roads, and the other half were far from traffic.
Galápagos yellow warblers like to protect their own space. Males warblers sing loudly to warn others to stay away from their space and even fight. The researchers used speakers(扬声器) to play two recordings. One was a male warbler's song, and the other was the same song with traffic sounds. They recorded the birds' reactions(反应).
The birds near roads flew closer to the speakers and kept flying around them, more possibly preparing for a fight. The researchers think the birds might have realized their songs were covered by traffic noise and they flew close to make themselves heard. This put them at a greater risk of being hit by cars.
The researchers ask people to pay more attention to noise on wildlife. They suggest that people should try different ways like building walls to stop noise or creating "quiet areas". Small actions make a big difference.

C、Flew around the speakers again and again. D、Stopped singing immediately to protect themselves.(4)、What's the main purpose of the passage?A、To ask people to care about the noise on wildlife. B、To introduce the living environment of yellow warblers. C、To describe the beautiful sights of the Galápagos Islands. D、To show the ways of researching the male yellow warblers. -

19-year-old Nursena Burus from Turkey, arrived in China in February 2024, just in time for the Chinese New Year. The red lanterns on streets caught her eyes. "Red means celebration and good luck. It felt completely new to me," she recalled(回忆).
Influenced by her sister, who had studied in China, Burus viewed the trip not just as a language-learning chance but as an adventure. "My sister showed me photos of festivals, friends, and food of China. I wanted to experience them all," she said.

Many adults suppose that their small acts of kindness won't make too much of a difference. But actually they mean a lot.
In 2023, researchers Margaret Echelbarger and Nick Epley published a study. It described an experiment (实验) they had run. They wanted to find out if kids also undervalue (低估) their good actions. The experiment took place at the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry. That's in Chicago, Illinois. Researchers spoke with 101 kids who were visiting the museum.
With their parents' permission(允许), the kids were offered two free pencils. They could take both pencils home or perform an act of kindness. The act of kindness was allowing the researchers to give one of the pencils to a stranger. The kid could choose the receiver. Before the experiment, the researchers asked the kids a question. The kids had to guess how "big" their act of kindness would feel to the receiver. Would the person be happy? Or would the gift feel like no big deal?
"Many kids had trouble guessing", Yanyi Leng says. She's a research assistant who helped with the experiment. Leng told TIME for Kids that some of the children said, "I'd like to give my pencil but I'm not sure how they're going to feel. " The receivers were happy to get the pencils. And the givers felt happy too after doing a good thing. "It speaks to the power of these small, accidental acts of kindness, " Echelbarger told TFK. "Like, "You could have chosen anyone, but you chose Me'. "
Echelbarger and Epley's study proves that doing good feels good. Echelbarger hopes the study will encourage kids to spread kindness. She says people usually appreciate when someone says hello or holds a door for them. "Those things-we like being receivers of them, " she says.
""So we should also do them. "
(1)、Why did researchers do the experiment?A、TO test children's Pencil Preferences. B、To sell more pencils at the museum. C、To study how kids' kindness influences people. D、TO COMPARE adults' and children's behaviors.(2)、What were the children asked to do in the experiment?A、Writing a thank-you note to a stranger. B、Sharing their lunch with another child. C、Helping museum visitors find their way. D、Giving one of their free Pencils to a stranger.(3)、What did Yanyi Leng find before the experiment?A、Children were careful about choosing the receivers. B、Children were unwilling to give away their pencils. C、Children had trouble guessing how the receivers would feel. D、Children had difficulty understanding the feelings of others.(4)、What can be the best title of the text?A、Strangers and smiles:A Simple act B、Kids and Kindness:A Research Finding C、Museums and Minds:A Learning Space D、The Power of a PencilA Study in Art -

For more than two months, the world has been very excited about a new Al model called DeepSeek-Rl. The company behind it, also called DeepSeek, is a business based in Hangzhou, Zhejiang.
The new Al first appeared on Jan 20. In just one week, it beat OpenAI's ChatGPT and became number one free application in the App Store. What is so special about it?
According to DcepSeck, the new Al model is as good at difficult activities like math as other big-time models. But it needs much less computing power (算力) to do that. It is also the cheapest of its kind and took only about 5.57 million US dollars (40.58 million yuan) to make. That is less than the hundreds of millions or even billions that US businesses have to spend on making similar Al models, said Marc Andreessen, a technology expert in the US.
The achievement was largely because of an idea the scientist had while they trained it. Instead of using the traditional ways, DeepSeek mainly uses Reinforcement Learning (RL强化学习). It helps Al learn by working out the right way to do things on its own to get points. This makes RI better at reasoning and solving hard problems. What's more, DeepSeek-R1 is open-source (开源的). Everyone is free to get a copy of its code (代码). They can also change the code to meet their own needs. Being open-source is very important for sharing knowledge and making technology better for everyone, said Liang Wenfeng, who set up DeepSeek.
What makes DeepSeek exciting? Microsoft engineer Vinayak Hegde said that DeepSeek-R1 is cool because it is a reasoning model. That is a new kind of AI. Other AI models, like GPT-4o, usually just give direct answers. But reasoning models are more like Sherlock Holmes. When they solve a problem, they can also show all the steps they took!
(1)、How long did it take DeepSeek-R1 to become number one free app after it came out?A、1 day. B、1 week. C、1 month. D、2 weeks.(2)、What does the word "This" in the fourth paragraph refer to?A、Being open-source. B、Spending billions of dollars. C、Using Reinforcement Learning. D、Training with traditional ways.(3)、Why is DeepSeek-R1 more popular in problem-solving than models like GPT-40?A、It allows users to see the steps. B、It gives answers much faster. C、It has more computing power. D、It avoids sharing code with the public.(4)、What is the main purpose of the text?A、To show US Al models are too expensive. B、To introduce the advantages of DeepSeek-R1. C、To explain why RL is better than traditional ways. D、To compare DeepSeek-R1 with Sherlock Holmes. -

The 18-year-old teenager has become the youngest climber to reach the top of the world's 14 highest mountains. He stopped his climb and focused instead on helping other climbers. "Climbing is a hard sport. It's about who can suffer the most when times are the worst, " he said. This year, Nima returned to Mount Shishapangma, ready to complete his challenge. He said he was thinking of his friend as he reached the top of the mountain.
Nima says he hopes his successes will make people more aware of how important Sherpas are to climbing. Yet, he aims to be more than a guide, saying, "want to be one of the best climbers in mountaineering. "
