When Goldie Nejat began developing robots in 2005, she spent much of her time knocking on doors to let people know how her robots worked but few showed interest.

"But now, it's different," says Nejat. "People calling from around the world ask when my robots are going to be ready."

Nejat's robots are made to fill an increasing need: care-giving for the old. The population of the people over age 80 will be 426 million in 2050, three times larger than that now.

Some have worried that care-giving robots might make human interaction (互动) less and cause more humans to lose their jobs. "But the purpose is to support human care, not to replace it," says Brian Scassellati. He has tested robots with different patients, and found that daily interaction with robots can help children with autism spectrum disorder (自闭症谱系障碍) improve social skills.

Well, of course, more robots have served the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. Cleaning robots can clean 8, 600 square meters of indoor large public areas such as staff area, athlete area and competition hall. And cleaning robots can adapt (适应) to large-traffic crowds and continuous (持续的) work. For those who are not wearing masks (口罩) in the area, reminding robots will come forward to remind them to wear masks. What's more, delivery (配送) robots have entered the main media center restaurant, where each dish is made by robots. After the cooking is completed, the robots will take it to the ordering guests.

As a field grows, scientists try to understand human-robot relationships better. Do robots offer advantages because they don't have feelings and don't give opinions? "One thing is clear," Scassellati says. "Many types of robots are quietly serving the people and the need for that will increase in the future."

For 17 years, Mohamed Nasar has supported his family of five by fishing in the Nile River.

But the 58-year-old says fishermen like himself catch fewer fish every year as the Nile has been filled with plastic bottles, bags and other waste.

"The fish are caught in the bottles, and they die," said Nasar.

A local environmental group named "VeryNile" has asked the island's fishermen to use their boats to collect plastic bottles from the river. VeryNile says it buys the bottles at a higher price than the market price offered by traders or recycling factories.

The initiative (倡议) provides a solution for helping to clean up the Nile, while providing a way to make more money for fishermen like Nasar.

"This job has helped us a bit. We come and collect about 10 to 15 kilos of plastic bottles, and we get about 12 Egyptian pounds for each," Nasar said when he sat in his boat collecting bottles.

Nasar, who made about 100 EGP a day after six hours of fishing, can now make another 200 EGP by collecting bottles.

Another fisherman said cleaner Nile water would mean more fish. "On the one hand, the Nile is cleaner, and on the other hand, the fisherman now has more ways to make money," he said.

With the help of more than 40 fishermen, over the past year VeryNile has collected around 18 tons of plastic bottles, and most of them went to the recycling factory and were made into new things.

The weather gets colder, days get shorter, and leaves fall off the tree. When winter , people live in warm houses and wear thick coats . But what happens to the animals？

Some animals sleep for part or all of the winter. It is a special, very deep sleep called hibernation(冬眠). These  body temperature drops, and their heartbeat(心跳)and breathing slow down. In autumn, they get ready for winter by eating food than in summer and storing it as body fat. This fat provides  with enough energy while they are sleeping. Bears, snakes, frogs  even some bugs(甲虫)hibernate. 

Some animals stay active in winter. It is hard for them  food. Some of them, like mice, collect extra food in autumn and store it to eat later. Some other animals eat  kinds of food as the seasons change. They may live in holes, in trees or the ground to stay warm. Some birds, like wild geese(大雁), fly to the south for the winter. We call this migration(迁徙).
