The OS also includes privacy - enhancing features, such as encrypted data sharing. "We prioritize user security, " said Huawei's chief security officer. Over 500 million devices upgraded to OS 4. 0 within a month. 

Industry experts believe Hongmeng's open - source model will accelerate IoT development. "This ecosystem approach is key to competing with global giants, " commented tech analyst Liu. 

Hefei's Quantum Leap Shapes Future Communication

Hefei, known as China's "Quantum Valley, " achieved a groundbreaking milestone in 2024 with the successful trial of a 5G-integrated quantum communication network. This network, spanning 2, 000 kilometers across Anhui, ensures absolutely secure data transmission through quantum encryption. Unlike traditional methods vulnerable to hacking, quantum technology uses subatomic particles that self-destruct if tampered with. 

The achievement was made possible by collaborative efforts between the University of Science and Technology of China and leading tech firms. The provincial government allocated 1. 5 billion yuan to fund research and infrastructure development. This investment is expected to attract over 200 high-tech companies to Anhui within three years. 

Local industries are already reaping benefits. A Hefei-based smart city project now uses quantum-protected sensors to monitor traffic and energy grids. "This technology reduces cyberattack risks by 90%, " said project manager Li Wei. 

In the evening, when Chinese people use Xiaohongshu, they find a lot of English-language content. Many people from the US call themselves "TikTok refugees (难民)" and come to this Chinese app. Even though Xiaohongshu doesn't have an official English name, US users call it "Red Note". 

A user named Ryan said in a video, "Hello everyone, my name is Ryan. I'm a TikTok refugee. The American government is banning (取缔) TikTok, so we're looking for a new app. . . . We're sorry to come here. Hope we don't have to stay long. " This video, with a robot-voice Chinese translation, got over 75, 000 likes in one day. 

In the US, many people think the Supreme Court (最高人民法院) will support the law to ban TikTok. This makes the 170 million US TikTok users unhappy. The ban will start on Sunday. TikTok's parent company, ByteDance, says it won't sell TikTok, so it's likely to be banned. 

As US users call themselves TikTok refugees, they go to Xiaohongshu. By Tuesday, there were over 114, 000 posts with this hashtag. Xiaohongshu became the most-downloaded app in the US iOS app store on Tuesday. 

Some US users share pictures of their pet cats and dogs on Xiaohongshu. They do this to talk to Chinese users. A US user named @El Vampiro said, "I heard the Chinese citizens of Red Note are asking for a pet tax from all new American refugees. Here's my submission to the pet tax. I hope it will suffice. " A Chinese user replied, "Well received. Here's your refund. "

However, not all things are good. A Chinese user named Yuzijiang got some bad comments from US users after posting a video of herself dancing with curly hair. They said she was being unfair to African American culture. Although many US users supported her, she still apologized. Some Chinese users worry that bad US cultures like gambling (赌博) and drug- taking (吸毒) might come to the Chinese online world. 

DeepSeek, a young Chinese AI company founded in 2023, has quickly risen to become a global leader in artificial intelligence (AI). With only two years of development, its technology has surprised the world by being faster, more efficient (有效率的), and cheaper than many well-known competitors. The company's founder, Mr. Liang Wenfeng, started his career in financial (金融的) technology. Later, he turned to AI and gathered a team of about 140 talented young people. Most of them graduated from top universities in China. 

DeepSeek teaches us important lessons about the future of AI. First, the company believes AI should belong to the whole world, not just one country. It should be used for cooperation, not for competition. Second, DeepSeek helps to close the "AI gap" between countries, companies and even individuals (个体) by using an open-source model (开源模式). It shares its technology freely with the world. Third, by lowering costs, DeepSeek makes AI affordable for more people. So the benefits of AI can reach everyone, not just a few.

Recently, the software "DeepSeek" has become very popular among students in our school. 

Chinese AI Model DeepSeek-R1 Stuns the World January 20, 2025, a Chinese tech company named DeepSeek made a new AI called DeepSeek-R1. This smart program can solve math problems, write code, and answer questions like top models such as OpenAI's GPT-40, but it costs much less to build. The team spent only $5. 58 million (1/70 of OpenAI's cost) and used 2, 048 computer chips for two months. This shows that good ideas can beat big money. 

DeepSeek-R1 learns by trying many times and getting better, like how students practice maths. Other AIs need lots of prepared examples, but R1 improves by itself. For example, in a global math test, it got 79. 8% right, slightly higher than OpenAI's model. A simple version of R1 can even run on low-cost computers, helping schools and small companies. 

DeepSeek-R1 is free to use and change. On its first day online, over 19, 000 programmers worldwide started projects to study it. A German scientist said experiments with R1 cost $10 instead of $300 with other AIs. Even Meta (a famous U. S. tech company) top scientist said, "This kind of free AI could change the world. " 

U. S. tech companies are worried. Meta plans to spend $65 billion more on AI research. Experts say China is catching up fast. A report in Nature magazine called R1 a "big step forward", proving that smart ideas beat expensive tools. As a DeepSeek engineer said, "We want AI to be a friend, not something only rich people can use. " With R1, China shows the world that great things come from new ideas and hard work, not just money.

A Cleaner,Cheaper Car?

There are already a lot of electric cars on the road. Someday, they may be great.  Some electric cars run on gasoline part of the time. So they still dirty the air. Also, someday they might cost less, but now most electric cars cost a lot of money. 

Many of today's electric cars run on batteries.  The driver has to wait for the batteries to be charged up before using the car again. And if a driver is away from home, he or she may have a hard time finding a place to plug in the car to recharge. 

A Faster Car?

Some inventors think that a flying car is a great idea.  If driving on the road is too slow, these cars will rise up in the air. Someday, there may be a lot of flying cars. Could that lead to traffic jams in the sky?

A Safer Car?

 But some inventors think that cars would be safer if they drove themselves. They say that people usually make mistakes but a self-driving car would not. 

At least one company is getting ready to sell cars that drive themselves.  But not everyone is ready to accept that a machine would be a better driver than a human. 

Someday, there may even be self-driving cars that can also fly and run on electricity. That could solve a lot of problems!
