A simple exclamation mark（感叹号）can greatly change a sentence's meaning. Look at this example:" Duck. "(Maybe someone sees a bird. ) and" Duck!"(Someone's warning you to move!). This small mark"!" carries a strong feeling behind the word itself. 

The exclamation mark first appeared in writing and is believed to come from the Latin word "io", which means" joy". 

▲ First of all, people usc it to show different feelings such as excitement, anger, or joy clcarly and strongly. For example, in the sentence "I can't believe we won!", you can tell how excited the speaker is. When you read the sentence" He did what?!", you will surely think there must be something surprising happening. The writer just easily makes you interested. What's more, in some sentences, exclamation marks improve friendly communication by adding warmth and entbusiasm（热情）, such as" Happy birthday!" or" See you soon!". Using exclamation marks can be an easy way to tell others how you feel without giving more words. 

However, not all people agree with the tradition. The famous writer F. Scott Fitzgerald once said that exclamation marks are the same as "laughing at your own jokes". They may even make the readers feel the writer is shouting at them. No one enjoys being shouted at. They might force（强迫）readers to feel a certain way. Readers don't want to be told how to read. They want to be free to understand the words in their own ways. So a good writer should not take shortcuts（捷径）. They can create feelings with just good words and sentences, no matter what kind of feeling it is.

When my friend first suggested that we join the new Tai Chi Club at school, I said without thinking twice, "No. Tai Chi is for grandparents. " But after the first few classes, I learned how wrong I was——it was amazing!

However, after a few weeks, I grew bored and ached from making the same moves again and again. Luckily, my coach was kind. He taught me how to relax my muscles（肌肉）and pay attention to the peace of mind. Slowly, l improved and even learned harder moves. My coach said Tai Chi balanced（平衡）yin and yang through slow, opposite actions: up and down, left and right, forward and backward. This brought both balance in the body and calmness in mind. My love for Tai Chi grew stronger than ever. 

Thanks to a year of practice, great changes have taken place in myself. I sleep better and feel more active, even though I am busy with study. Tai Chi has made me happier and more confident when I face problems. I' ll certainly keep practising——it's a lifelong gift!

People have understood that kindness is good for the person who receives help. However, scientists have recently begun to study the effect of the kindness on the person giving it. What they have found is that doing good is good for the doer (行为者). Acts of kindness can improve health, help a person reach goals and even add years to a person's life.

The first study to show the connection between doing good and living along life was a study on aging (衰老). Beginning in 1956, scientists studied a group of married mothers for 30 years. They found that what did matter was whether they volunteered. Women that volunteered had fewer diseases during their life.

Scientists are researching many possible causes. One possible cause is an increase in antibodies (抗体), which help fight against disease. One study showed the body produces more antibodies after an act of kindness. This increase in antibodies (抗体) can last nearly an hour after one act of kindness is finished. 

Another one is an increase in a chemical that fights the effects of stress from life. Scientists have found a link between being kind to people and an increase in the chemical oxytocin (催生素). Oxytocin is a chemical produced in the brain. It reduces many of the harmful chemicals the body produces under stress.

I'm good at my schoolwork, but for some reason, I have a very bad habit of losing things.

Last summer, I was on vacation with my family at the beach. On the first day, my father gave me a watch. "You need to have a watch, so take good care of it," he said.
