Last winter, it snowed heavily in our city. After the snowstorm, the whole city was covered with snow.

Many people came out to clear the snow. Some used shovels (铲子) to move the snow away from the roads, and others used brooms (扫帚) to sweep the snow on the sidewalks. The traffic policemen were also very busy. They were trying their best to keep the traffic in order.

Our school organized a volunteer activity. We students took part in it. We went to the streets near our school to help clear the snow. It was really cold, but we worked hard. Some of us even helped the old people cross the streets safely.

Thanks to everyone's efforts, the snow was cleared quickly. The roads became clean and safe again. We were all very tired, but we felt happy because we could help make our city better.

Dear Tom,

I had a great weekend. I became a volunteer at our local community center. I got up early on Saturday morning and went there by bike.

When I arrived, there were already many other volunteers. We first had a short meeting. Then, we started to clean up the center. We swept the floors, cleaned the windows and took out the trash. After that, we helped the old people who lived nearby. Some of us read books to them, and some chatted with them. They told us a lot of interesting stories about the past.

In the afternoon, we organized a community party. We invited all the people in the neighborhood. Some volunteers sang and danced, and others played games with the kids. Everyone had a great time.

Last weekend, I took part in a volunteer activity. I went to a small village with some other 1 . When we arrived, the villagers gave us a warm welcome.

First, we helped them 2 their houses. Some of us cleaned the rooms, and others 3 the broken things. Then, we 4 a party for them. We sang, danced and 5 jokes. The villagers also 6 us some delicious food.

In the afternoon, we 7 to plant trees. We worked hard and planted about 100 trees. The villagers said the trees would make their village more beautiful.

During the Warring States Period, there was man called Ban from the State of Lu. People usually called him Lu Ban. He (know) as the most excellent carpenter (木匠) then. It is said that he once made a bird of wood. It was so lifelike that it flew the sky for three days.

One day, a young carpenter came to a house which had a big red door. He (hold) up his ax and said, "I am a great carpenter. No matter what kind of wood it is, I can make it into anything." Hearing this, people around him all laughed. "This young carpenter (talk) big now." they thought. One of them pointed to the big red door behind him and said, "Young man, can you make a (good) door than this one?" The young carpenter raised his head high (show) his confidence. Then he said, "No problem! I used to be a student of Lu Ban." The crowd laughed again. Someone said, "This is Lu Ban's home. He made this door (he)." The young carpenter's face turned red and he ran away (quick).

Thus comes the proverb "Ban Men Nong Fu". It means showing off slight (微不足道的) (skill) in front of an expert.
