Similar to blogs, vlogs allow people to share their lives and thoughts. Video clips (片段), instead of written texts or photos, are mainly used in vlogs. While short videos of about 10 to 60 seconds in length are still popular, more and more people like vlog entries (记录) which last for several minutes. They allow vloggers to include more meaningful content. 

     Before filming

First, plan ahead by considering the subject, the message, and the purpose of the video clip.  Preparing a script is especially useful to help beginner vloggers stay on topic. Also, make sure you have all the necessary equipment. 

     While filming 

 You need to speak confidently to catch viewers' attention. If you can't get it right the first time, just try again. Design unexpected things like a phone ringing, which can make your vlog more humorous. Also, remember to protect your personal information in your vlog. 

     After filming

Video editing (剪辑) may sound challenging, but there are different video editing software and apps to help us. Add sound and visual effects to present information creatively.  And finally, think of a suitable title to let viewers know the clip's content. 

"Click, click, click... " the drummer hit the drumsticks against each other to give a beat, and the band started to play. Kai played a guqin solo, and for most of the show, he played along with the rhythm of the drums. The band played faster and faster. Kai's classmates jumped to their feet, clapping and screaming. When the music ended, there was an awkward (尴尬的) silence. They all looked at the teachers. 

Mr Li asked, "What were you trying to express?"

Kai murmured, "I wanted to do something different... to modernize the guqin's sound. "

"Well, it's a good try. But you know it has over 3,000 years of history. I don't think you've presented the characteristics well. " said Mr Li. "The music was... We could hardly hear the guqin," added Miss Zhou. "I'm afraid I can't give you high marks. "

"Please, can I have another chance?" begged Kai. 

They finally agreed. 

Alone in the hall later, Kai sat in his chair, feeling a little sad. "I understand what you were trying," Kai looked up and saw Miss Zhou by his side. "But before you can break the rules, you have to master them. "

Kai was puzzled. What did she mean?

"The guqin is connected to nature. The bottom board represents the ground and the rounded top board represents the sky. A wonderful guqin performance shows the harmony (和谐) between people and nature. "

"Exactly. Confucius believed that music was necessary for a well-rounded education. It could help a person develop his inner self. "

"Can I make it modern?" Kai was wondering if he had asked a stupid question. 

"Ancient musicians followed traditions to show respect. To modernize it, try to find the right way to keep the value. How will you change your piece?"

"I'm not sure yet," said Kai. "But I'm going to do something different again. "

That night, Kai kept thinking about the next show. "How can I present the guqin and balance the traditional spirit with a modern touch?" he wondered. 

Then, he had an idea...  

 ①Do you sometimes feel too afraid to try new things? If you want to grow and get better, you need to take risks and challenge yourself. But your brain often tells you to stay safe. It might say, "Don't trouble trying something new. " Even when these thoughts aren't reasonable, our anxiety (担心) can still win. Instead of thinking about the good things that could happen, we worry more about "What if something goes wrong?" 

②Avoiding all risks might seem smart, but it can make you feel unhappy. The problem is that we often make decisions based on feelings, not facts. We think, "The more scared I feel, the riskier it is. " But feelings aren't always reasonable. If we knew how to think about risks clearly, we'd know which risks are worth taking. For example, trying a new hobby like painting might feel scary at first, but it could bring you joy and new skills. 

③Whether you're afraid to change your job or too nervous to ask a friend for coffee, learning to take "good risks" can improve your life. Here are good ways to help. 

④Balance feelings with facts. Many times, we think fear means something risky. But that's not true. For example, driving a car feels safe because we do it every day, but giving a speech in public might make your heart beat fast. Yet the fact shows that car accidents are much more common than getting hurt while speaking! So before you avoid doing something scary, take three deep breaths and ask yourself: "What's the real risk here?" 

⑤Take steps to succeed. You can do many small things to lower risks. If you're nervous about a test, make a study plan and review each day—this helps you feel more prepared. It's okay to feel butterflies in your stomach when you try something new. Facing fear helps build your mental muscle, just like exercising builds physical muscle. So, taking smart risks helps you____become mentally stronger. Each time you try something scary, you will learn to deal with uncertainty and anxiety. You'll also get new skills and grow from mistakes. If you try out for a dance team and don't make it, you can ask for the reason and then practise more. With practice, you'll get better at facing risks, and your chances of success will rise.

Sports might have started as a way to survive. Long ago, people ran, jumped, and climbed to stay alive. Hunters were known by their special skills. Wall paintings centuries ago, showing activities like wrestling or dancing, were found in an Egyptian tomb. The ancient Greeks made a big change by holding the first Olympic Games. 

Modern sports began in England in the early 19^th century and then spread globally. These became the models for sports such as football that we play now. 

Sports come in many shapes and sizes. Organized sports, whether swimming or ice hockey, are serious forms of play. There are rules to obey, skills and positions to learn, and plans to carry out. Team sports like soccer require you to work with teammates while individual (个人的) sports such as tennis focus on your personal performance. 

There's no doubt that sports are valuable. The American Academy of Pediatrics says play is important for kids' and teens' thinking, body, social life and feelings. Sports exercise our bodies and teach us about ourselves and our world. Organized sports get us using our bodies and minds, which makes us more imaginative, curious, and creative. The skills we learn can help us in school and later at work. 

In an ideal world, sports would always be fun. But in reality, sports can cause physical hurt like broken bones, and also harm in mind. In team sports, misunderstandings and hurt feelings are part of the learning process. Sports are supposed to bring people together, but they can also drive people apart. But even when they're not always a cheerful experience, they show us how to face life's challenges. 

You don't have to be on a school team. But many, like school coaches, have found ways to make play their work, which makes them feel whole. 

There's no better place to play and learn about the world than on a sports field. No matter what sport you choose, the key is to play for fun. When you do, you're already a winner.

A meaningful birthday

Birthdays are always special, and this year, mine was truly unforgettable.

From red apples to yellow bananas and green watermelons, fruits come in many different colors. Why do different kinds of fruits have so many colors?

Liu Wei, a scientist from China, explains that fruit colors actually come from their different pigments (色素). How many pigments appear depends on where they grow. Therefore, the environment plays an important role in fruit colors.

To find out how the environment influences fruit colors, Chinese scientists studied more than 280 different fruit colors, including white, red, blue, purple and black. They found that red fruits prefer to grow in cooler places, while blue and purple fruits mostly grow in warm places.

Animals have also had an influence on the evolution (进化) of fruit colors. Animals eat fruits and later drop the seeds in other places. This helps the fruits spread and grow in different places. In order to catch animals' attention, some fruits turn into colors that are easy for them to see.

However, animals see colors in a different way. Fruits need to develop colors that fit what animals can see. For example, birds can see red more easily than humans can. As a result, there are more red fruits in areas where birds live. Some monkeys are red-green color-blind, so yellow fruits can be found in their habitats (栖息地), as they can easily see this color.

A touching video about a special classroom mailbox has become popular on TikTok. It was by Dawnell Ticarich, a fourth-grade teacher in Utah, USA. 

Dawnell set up the mailbox in her classroom to better understand her students' thoughts and feelings. Students can leave notes about anything—happy moments, worries, or questions they are too shy to ask in person. They call it the "I Wish My Teacher Knew" box. "Many kids have  expressing themselves," Dawnell explains. "This gives them a safe way to be heard."

Every day, Dawnell checks the mailbox, reads the notes carefully, and then takes . Once, a student wrote that others were making fun of her schoolbag. Dawnell talked to the class about kindness, sharing her own childhood experiences to teach them that words can sometimes  people.

Another student wrote that no one wanted to sit with him and he felt left out (被冷落). Dawnell noticed this, so she changed seats and taught lessons on . She encouraged them to be kind to one another.

Many people praised her for being a  and creative teacher. Dawnell's video about the mailbox has touched millions of people online.

The Yingge dance, or "dance to heroes' song", is  folk show from southern China, especially popular in Guangdong. The dance is a mix of opera, drumming, and kung fu. It (add) to China's National Intangible Cultural Heritage List (非物质文化遗产目录) in 2006. 

The dance tells heroes' stories and is often performed during  (tradition) Chinese festivals. The dancers wear colorful clothes and carry wooden sticks. They beat their sticks so skillfully that the sticks seem like part of their bodies. The performance  (bring) happiness to everyone.

A Yingge team usually has 36 people. To prepare for a wonderful show, the team has to practice for at least six months.  it is tiring, a lot of young people are learning the dance out of love.

Practicing Yingge helps people stay healthy and learn about local culture. "Now our club has 20 members. They (learn) it since they were in primary school," a dancer said. "It's a good way  (celebrate) local culture and bring people together."
