  • 3、Modern society makes it easy to feel tired at all times, which makes it really hard to break the cycle of exhaustion. There are habits and behaviors that can help you feel less exhausted.

    ●Eat food that fuels you.

The food you put into your bodies is what makes you feel good and drives you. However, you should be mindful of the intake amount. Consuming too much can lead to discomfort or digestive issues.

You can't expect to sit around all the time and have energy. If you want to feel more awake, try not to have a zero day, even if it's a 10-minute walk after dinner or just doing some stretching— that daily movement is just so good for your bodies.

●Seek out habits and experiences you enjoy.

If you're doing things you love, it's not work, it's a call, and it does energize you. However, if you're doing something miserable or you're in a place where you're not happy, it's an energy drain. Make sure you carve out time to do whatever it is that excites you each week.

    ●Get your stress under control.

If you're stressed, you probably won't be sleeping well and you might even skip your workouts. You need to look at ways to make sure that you're having that balance where the body has time to rest and recover.

    A. Move every day.

    B. Prioritize physical exercises.

    C. Take time to consider what you enjoy.

    D. But it's not an unsolvable problem.

    E. It's advisable not to eat processed food.

    F. This could mean taking time to vacation or spending time in nature.

    G. This is why people fuel up with carbohydrates like potatoes and bread before a marathon.

  • 4、Millions of patients worldwide face life-threatening challenges, with 90% failing to receive needed organ transplants and 240 million suffering from untreatable genetic diseases. Additionally, poor diets cause over 10 million early deaths annually. Such suffering seems hopeless. However, a groundbreaking gene-editing technology called CRISPR offers hope to deal with these issues and many more.

CRISPR is like an editor that can rewrite DNA letter by letter or gene by gene, to remove harmful mutations (突变) or add protective ones. This summer will see clinical trials on pig organs edited for transplanting into humans. Last year the first new therapy went on the market. It seemingly cures sickle-cell disease and beta-thalassemia, two blood disorders that bother millions. If ongoing clinical trials succeed, a one-off therapy could provide life-long protection against heart attacks. Farming will benefit, too: CRISPR could raise yields or create climate-resistant crops. Consumers could soon get fibre-rich bread or tastier varieties of healthy but unpopular foods, such as mustard greens.

CRISPR, discovered in 2012, holds great promise but still faces challenges. While it can potentially replace older technologies like expensive gene therapy and controversial GM crops, strict regulations hinder the progress of CRISPR. The rules for rare disease drugs make development costly and slow. Many CRISPR companies find it hard to succeed, even with government support. Although CRISPR's programmable nature allows one drug to target multiple mutations, strict safety and manufacturing standards limit its use. For patients with urgent needs, loosening some rules might be worth the risk. The Food and Drug Administration has started to ease regulations, but CRISPR still needs real-world successes to prove its potential.

For patients and farmers, CRISPR's promise is urgent. Balancing innovation with safety, updating regulations, and maintaining public trust will determine its success. With wise decisions, this technology could save millions of lives and reshape humanity's future.

(1)、Which of the following is a potential benefit of CRISPR?
A、Removing genetic mutations. B、Preventing all blood diseases. C、Curing heart attacks permanently. D、Protecting crops from climate change.
(2)、What does the underlined word "hinder" in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
    A、Promote. B、Track. C、Block. D、Maintain.
(3)、What does the last paragraph imply about CRISPR?
A、Public trust has little influence on its success. B、Updating regulations will definitely guarantee its success. C、Its success will benefit human's health and development. D、Its success depends on decisions of patients and farmers.
(4)、Which is the best title of the passage?
A、CRISPR: A Potential Technology Reshaping Our Life B、CRISPR: A Worldwide Technology Facing Various Challenges C、CRISPR: A Clinical Treatment Replacing Traditional Therapies D、CRISPR: A Programmable Design Targeting Organ Transplantation
  • 5、Oasis agriculture is a unique agricultural practice that thrives in the middle of arid and semi-arid regions, where water is a limited resource. These oases, usually forms where underground water reaches the ground, create fertile soil in deserts, allowing crops and plants to grow in such tough conditions. AlUla, an area in northwest Saudi Arabia, is a perfect example of this type of farming, with a history of thousands of years.

The formation of AIUla's oasis results from a dry riverbed that channels water from distant rain into the valley, enriching the soil with minerals from the neighboring basalt (玄武岩) plains. This natural water source not only helped plants to grow and attracted animals but also became the home of early human societies. Around 5, 000 years ago, people started to grow cereal grains in this area. Scientists have found evidence of ancient farming and diets in old grains, seeds, and wood, showing how important the oasis was for these early communities.

Today, oases like AlUla are not only centers for farming but also places where trade, knowledge, and farming methods have been shared for centuries. However, these oases now face serious threats. For example, climate problems are changing rain patterns and making areas drier. Harmful farming practices and city expansion are using up water supplies, causing water levels to drop and soil to lose quality. Competition for limited resources is making social and economic gaps wider, putting oasis agriculture at risk. Without quick action, its future is uncertain.

To protect oasis agriculture, sustainable management is needed. This includes using water-saving irrigation systems, avoiding water waste, and encouraging natural farming with varied crops. It is also vital to include local communities in protecting oases, as they have valuable knowledge passed down through generations. By doing these, we can ensure oasis agriculture survives and helps protect both Earth's biodiversity and cultural history.

(1)、In which regions is oasis agriculture mainly applied?
A、Regions with limited water. B、Regions with frequent floods. C、Extremely cold regions. D、Highly populated regions.
(2)、What is the primary cause of AlUla's oasis formation?
A、The discovery of ancient farming and diets. B、Minerals from the nearby plains. C、A dry riverbed transporting rainwater to the valley. D、The settlement of ancient people.
(3)、Why are the examples mentioned in Paragraph 3?
A、To analyze the limitation of oasis agriculture. B、To prove the importance of oases. C、To stress the effects on developing oasis agriculture. D、To illustrate the specific threats to oases.
(4)、Which suggestion does the author agree with?
A、Growing single crops for higher efficiency. B、Adopting eco-friendly farming policies. C、Relying only on government-led conservation. D、Banning using all irrigation systems.

I clearly remember the day. I was ten when Mom and I boarded the Antarctic cruise ship. To tell the truth, I never knew how wonderful Chinese medicine was. The crew greeted us with false smiles, and it was clear they didn't really care. Mom saw I was uncomfortable and patted my head gently, telling me not to worry.

During the trip, Mom and I often sat in a corner of the dining hall, reading old medical books. Our daily doings attracted a couple's attention. The husband was a soldier and couldn't walk; he had to use a wheelchair. One afternoon, the wife pointed to the badge (徽章) on Mom's coat and asked curiously what it was about. "This shows our family's long-standing tradition of Chinese medicine. Mom is a Chinese medicine teacher," I said. They looked at each other, surprised because it was the first time they'd seen a Chinese doctor.

Then we met in the following days and I knew the husband was called Mark and Emma was his wife. Mark told us his sad story about how his legs got hurt in the war. Mom offered to try acupuncture (针灸) on him. At first, he laughed sadly. He said even doctors from Harvard couldn't help him. But Emma told him to give it a try. "Darling, could it get any worse than it is now? So why not give it a shot? Remember we first met at a ball ten years ago?" With his wife's encouragement, he agreed and murmured, "Valentine' s Day is only a week away". Mom put the needles in carefully. Seconds passed slowly. Suddenly, he shouted, "I can feel something! It's like an electric feeling in my legs!" First, a waiter rushed in, his eyes wide with curiosity. Soon, two passengers came in too, and before long, a small crowd had gathered, watching nervously. As Mom put more and more needles in, it felt like time stopped.

  • 14、Music has been a faithful companion to people since ancient times. From the rhythmic beats of ancient drums to the complex musical pieces of modern times, it has the power to stir emotions, create memories, and even affect our physical well-being. But what exactly makes music so charming?

Sound is the basis of music. Our ears sense sound as vibrations (振动) in the air. When a musician plays a guitar, for example, the strings vibrate. These vibrations travel through the air as sound waves and reach our ears. The frequency of these sound waves determines the pitch (音高) of the note. High-frequency waves produce high-pitched sounds, like the sound of a bell, while low-frequency waves create low-pitched sounds, similar to the deep sound of a bass drum.

Harmony, another essential element, happens when several notes are played at the same time. Certain combinations of notes sound pleasant to our ears, creating harmony. This is because these combinations have a simple mathematical relationship between their frequencies. For instance, when a note and its octave (八度音阶) are played together, the frequency of the octave is exactly twice that of the original note. This harmonious combination is pleasing to most listeners.

Music also has a great impact on our emotions. A major key often excites feelings of happiness and optimism, while a minor key can create a sense of sadness or depression. Fast-paced music can make us full of energy, getting our hearts pumping and our feet tapping. In comparison, slow-paced music can calm us down, reducing stress and promoting relaxation.

Moreover, research has shown that music can affect our physical health. Listening to music can lower blood pressure, reduce pain, and improve sleep quality. For example, patients in a hospital setting who listen to calming music often report less discomfort during medical procedures.

The next time you find yourself humming along to a tune or moved to tears by a piece of music, remember the science behind this magical art form.

(1)、According to the passage, what is responsible for the pitch of a note?
A、The size of the musical instrument. B、The frequency of the sound waves. C、The material of the strings on the instrument. D、The force with which the instrument is played.
(2)、Why does the author mention the mathematical relationship?
A、To explore why certain combinations of notes sound satisfying to our ears. B、To suggest that musicians need a strong background in mathematics. C、To stress the complexity of creating harmonious music. D、To show that music is more of a scientific concept than an art form.
(3)、What can we infer from Paragraph 4?
A、People's emotional states can change the way they sense music. B、Music can be used as a tool to control people's emotions. C、Our emotional response to music is related to its specific elements. D、Composers create music mainly to stir certain emotions.
(4)、What is the main idea of the passage?
A、Musical development connects with scientific advances. B、Understanding music's science reveals its influence. C、Music's emotional impact matters more than physical benefits. D、Ancient music laid modern understanding's foundation.
  • 15、While everyone debates China's DeepSeek R1 AI model, there's something many miss: To youngAmericans like me, DeepSeek isn't just impressive — it's actually cool. All of them don't love the Chinese government, but they find Chinese internet culture fresh and exciting.

Why? First, China's internet really offers unique experiences and Chinese apps show growing creativity. I don't use TikTok much myself, but its energy beats any US video platform. The company claims over half of Americans actively use it.

When TikTok faced legal issues this month, American teens didn't turn to European choices.

They rushed to a Chinese app called RedNote (Xiaohongshu). With 300 million Chinese users, this platform recently became popular in America too. The app mixes Chinese text with fashion photos and funny animal pictures for young people from both countries to exchange tips there — like how to make perfect steamed eggs.

DeepSeek itself stands out among AI chatbots. Besides its technical skills and low cost, it has personality. Its responses can be playful or childlike for us — it even rewrote John Milton' s Paradise Lost as an AI-generated original story! This week it became Apple's top downloaded app.

Former generations found Europe culturally"cool", but that appeal faded. Now China stands as America's only true equal in both economy and global impact. Though our cultures differ greatly, both nations share features like openness and business energy. Having visited China 11 times, I' ve seen how its talent and resources create online experiences that attract Americans.

People focus too much on DeepSeek' s technical advance and miss the bigger picture: China isn't just catching up technologically, but culturally too. Their internet world feels alive in ways that connect with young Americans eager for something new.

(1)、What can be inferred from the first few paragraphs?
A、American youth reject native cultural influences. B、Young Americans don't like China's political system. C、Cultural value deserves more attention than technical debates. D、DeepSeek's popularity mainly comes from the official support.

  • 16、People often react strangely to the 10-year age gap between my kids. Some strangers ask if they' re from the same marriage or if the younger was an "accident". Some joke we' re "starting over" late. Maybe we are — but we' re perfectly happy with our choice.

Like any family, we face challenges. My tween needs homework help during her brother's bath time. Sometimes she has sports events and parties while he stays home sick, needing care. She enjoys patterns and graphic novels; he chews books and throws toys. They won't spend mornings building Legos together like same-aged siblings (兄弟姐妹) might.

Yet these differences feel manageable. If schedules clash, my fifth grader waits or solves problems herself. Though their meals differ, we always eat together. While their skills show the age gap most clearly, this actually benefits them both.

Despite the decade between them, they share toys and activities. When she plays the piano, he sings beside her. When she draws, he scribbles(涂鸦) nearby. The little one learns from his "expert" big sister, while she enjoys his constant admiration — to him, she' s practically the sun itself.

Last week at a berry farm, my daughter raced ahead with cousins. Her brother kept stuffing berries into his cheeks, ignoring my calls. "Get Nic!" I told her. Without turning, she yelled "Come!" He instantly dropped his fruit and ran after her.

Though still awkward, he comforts her when she's upset, climbing into her lap for hugs.

When she's bored, he brings yummy cookies and candies — gifts filled with pure love no age gap can erase.

No parent-child bond matches the unique connection between siblings. Others might question our family, but I wouldn't change a thing.

A、Children are raised according to their ages. B、Social opinions influence parenting strategies. C、Sibling connections go beyond age differences. D、Parent-child relationships require more attention.
(4)、What is the mother's attitude towards the age gap between her children?
    A、Negative. B、Indifferent. C、Worried. D、Positive.

As far as Daniel knew, there was only one way out of his neighborhood: basketball. So he ran with the ball like the wolves chasing him. He could beat any of the older boys at the court with quick moves, fancy shots, and fast layups(上篮). The younger kids didn't have a chance against him. Daniel saw basketball as his ticket to a better life and worked hard every day. But life has a strange way of changing when you think you've got everything planned — and that's exactly what happened to Daniel.

One day, while Daniel was shooting around at the local court, some guys from another block came over and asked to play. The big one in the group said that he had heard Daniel was the best and he wanted to see if it is true. Daniel said, "No, I'm just shooting around with my cousin today; I don't want to get all sweaty." But the big guy kept pushing, and Daniel' s cousin was annoyed, "Come on, Daniel, drop this guy!" So Daniel decided to play. He was running circles around the big guy, making shot after shot. But just as the outcome of the game seemed certain, the big guy pushed Daniel hard as he went for a layup. Daniel fell awkwardly and hurt his right knee badly. The doctor said he might never play basketball again, and even if he did, he wouldn't be the same. Daniel felt completely heartbroken.

For the first six weeks, Daniel lay in bed with a thick cast on his leg, feeling like a broken toy. He watched TV all day and ate chips until the bags were empty. He gained a lot of weight as he saw his bright future slipping away. Just when he felt like he couldn't get any lower, his sister Kiki came home from college. She entered the house like a ray of sunshine, telling amazing stories about her life at school.

    注意:

    1.续写词数应为150左右;

    2.请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。

Daniel was amazed by the wonderful campus life.
