1、A lost Buddha (佛像) head statue, which recently made the journey back to China, appeared during the Spring Festival Gala of China Central Television. It was its first public show after being successfully sent back from Japan in December.

The head, dating back to the Sui Dynasty (581-618), was originally placed on the northern wall in the No 8 Tianlongshan Grottoes on the suburbs of Taiyuan, capital of Shanxi province, according to a statement from the National Cultural Heritage Administration (国家文物局).
It was believed to be stolen and lost overseas around 1924, along with about 240 Buddha images that were robbed in the 1920s. This 44.5-cm-high Buddha head is the first among these stolen items to be returned from Japan.
The National Cultural Heritage Administration learned in September a Chinese Buddha head statue labeled as from Tang Dynasty (618-907) was about to be sold in Tokyo, and was thought to be a stolen piece from Tianlongshan.
The administration soon began the process of returning it home. In October, the auction house in Tokyo, whose board chairman Zhang Rong is a Chinese from Hangzhou, agreed to stop the auction.
After discussions between the National Cultural Heritage Administration, Zhang, and the local holder of the relic in Japan, the Buddha head was bought by Zhang and finally given away to the administration.
The transfer ceremony (交接仪式) for the statue was held in the Chinese Embassy (大使馆) in Tokyo in November, and it arrived in Beijing in December.
After being shown on the Spring Festival Gala, the Buddha head statue will be displayed in Beijing Lu Xun Museum from the first day of the Lunar New Year to Mar 14.

2、In the course of working my way through school, I took many jobs I would rather forget. But none of these jobs was as dreadful as my job in an apple plant. The work was hard; the pay was poor; and, most of all, the working conditions were terrible.
First of all, the job made huge demands on my strength. For ten hours a night, I took boxes that rolled down a metal track and piled them onto a truck. Each box contained twelve heavy bottles of apple juice. I once figured out that I was lifting an average of twelve tons of apple juice every night.
I would not have minded the difficulty of the work so much if the pay had not been so poor. I was paid the lowest wage of that time—two dollars an hour. Because of the low pay, I felt eager to get as much as possible. I usually worked twelve hours a night but did not take home much more than $100 a week.
But even more than the low pay, what made me unhappy was the working conditions. During work I was limited to two ten-minute breaks and an unpaid half hour for lunch. Most of my time was spent outside loading trucks with those heavy boxes in near-zero-degree temperatures. The steel floors of the trucks were like ice, which made my feet feel like stone. And after the production line shut down at night and most people left, I had to spend two hours alone cleaning the floor.
I stayed on the job for five months, all the while hating the difficulty of the work, the poor money, and the conditions under which I worked. By the time I left, I was determined never to go back there again.

D、The writer's experience as a full-time worker.(3)、How does the author organize the passage?A、Topic-Argument-Explanation B、Opinion-Discussion-Description C、Main idea-Comparison-Supporting examples D、Introduction-Supporting examples-Conclusion -
3、I have just arrived in a country where I don't know the language, where I have no family roots and where I find myself all alone. It may sound frightening. But let me tell you a little secret: it is not.
When you travel abroad by yourself for whatever reason—exchange program, internship, volunteering, or simply as a tourist—a new and fascinating world will open up for you. A world you would have never been able to see if you had just stayed at home.
People from a different country are not aliens. They are simply people like you who happened to be born in another region. They have pretty much the same wishes and worries as people from your own country.
I know that you see a lot of news on TV saying terrible things people do all the time. Your family may have spent a great deal of time telling you not to trust strangers. However, when you travel alone you will realize that people are just as good as you. Everyone is just leading their lives, working, studying and having a good time with their friends. Most people will be happy to help you and get to know you.
Maybe in the past when you would need months to travel from one place to another, traveling could be expensive. Nowadays, the world is just so connected that it is perfectly possible to find cheap flights, accommodation for all budgets and cheap and quality food.
You will get lost, but it's fine! I can't even count how many times I didn't know where I was going or how to find the right direction. Everything looks great on Google maps, but sometimes your phone will die or your data will end. Just calm down. Go to a store or stop someone in the street and ask! Or simply walk around and be curious.
(1)、The author writes about his own experience in paragraph 1 to ________.A、encourage people to travel B、tell the advantages of traveling C、show it is hard to travel alone D、introduce the topic of the passage(2)、The underlined word "aliens" in Paragraph 3 probably refers to people ________.A、who don't like you B、who are different from you C、who are not good-looking D、who have the same wishes as you(3)、We can infer from the passage that ________.A、most people travel abroad alone as tourists B、travelling abroad is better than travelling at home C、it's cheaper and easier to travel abroad now than in the past D、people from a different country are simply people like you -
4、For as long as humans have appeared, we have been the most intelligent species (种类) on Earth. Monkeys know how to use simple tools. Elephants can be taught how to count. But things like art, literature, the Internet, and space travel have only been made possible by the amazing intelligence of humans.
And yet, some people believe that we can create machines that can think and feel just like we do. Artificial intelligence, or AI is around us every day. From Apple's voice-activated assistant (声控助手) Siri to the software algorithms (算法) that shipping companies use to deal with deliveries (投递), AI is very much a part of our lives.
But why do we work so hard to create machines that can think the way we do? For one thing, AI can make our lives much easier. Imagine being able to be in a car, tell it the place you want to go to, and sit back in comfort as the AI-guided self-driving car takes you there. We are already getting there—Changsha became the first city in China where we can take self-driving taxis in April 2020.
However, there are risks. What if we somehow produced an artificial intelligence that was smarter than us? How would it behave toward us? These are the kinds of difficult questions that AI researchers ask themselves all the time.
Except for the risks, it is already clear that AI is here to stay. Only time will tell if it will lead us into a new age of prosperity (繁荣), or be our end.
(1)、The first paragraph is mainly about ________.A、showing the possibility of space travel B、showing what fields AI can be used in C、explaining how animals are intelligent D、explaining how intelligence makes humans special(2)、According to the passage, which one is TRUE about AI?A、AI will never be as smart as humans. B、It is not easy to put AI into daily use. C、We might not be able to live without it in the future. D、We can't say for sure how AI will behave toward us.(3)、Which of the following is the writer's opinion of AI?A、It will be good. B、It will be bad. C、It will be part of our future. D、It's risky and horrible. -
5、①"Long distance never separates close friends." It's easier to make new friends rather than saying goodbye to old ones.
②When I was still studying in China, my school held a singing competition. I entered it because I really loved singing. I sang with a girl named Jenny. She's one of my best friends.
③Unluckily, I was nervous and I forgot the lyrics for a moment while we sang. I was standing on stage, looking pale on the face. We lost the competition. I felt terribly sorry, but Jenny tried to comfort me by saying "There will be another chance."
④After about a week, our school's art festival began. I decided to enter it. The first person I thought of to join me was Jenny, although I wasn't sure if she would want to. But while I was asking other people to join me, she said she would join as well. We decided to sing the song See You Again at the festival because I would leave for UK after I finished the performance. We prepared for it for a long time.
⑤Finally, the day of the festival arrived. As I walked into class, people started clapping for me. Someone had written "Sally, Come On!" on the blackboard. My classmates wrote cards for me. After I completed my performance, everyone cheered for me.
⑥It was a really unforgettable and touching afternoon. I want to thank Jenny, who didn't give up on me when I felt down. I want to thank my friends for helping me, and I really want to thank all of my classmates who were with me in my two middle school years as well.

Leadership. What does the word mean? Leadership is not just the ability to lead a team, it is a journey of selflessness. Some people are born leaders while others are not. This was how I had to start my journey
"Alright, class! We are going to work in groups to create a mind map! It needs to contain the facts we discussed during the Science Centre trip!" Mrs. Low's voice boomed across the classroom like thunder. "This is a great opportunity for our newly appointed group leaders to prove themselves worthy of that title."
Mrs. Low then raised one of her eyebrows with great expectations. The class burst into non-stop chattering. Rita and John glanced at me warily. I raised my head, the gleaming badge (闪耀的徽章) with the words "Team Leader" pinned proudly on my uniform.
Mrs. Low instructed the class, "Go to your seats now." In the blink of an eye, everyone rushed back to their tables to begin their project. I took out a piece of paper and pointed to Rita, "Hey you! Make a list of the stuff that we have learned." Rita angrily slammed her hand on the table. She complained, "Why do you have to be so bossy?" "Because I'm the leader!" I shouted back. She glared at me with anger burning in her eyes.
I turned to John, "And you! Start drawing the mind map! I want it done quickly!" John did not protest; he simply bit his lip, muttering, "Is this really leadership?"
He went on to draw the mind map while his question rang in my head and I asked myself, is this really leadership? It was as if I was standing in front of a mirror, looking at my reflection, wondering if I was proud to see how I was behaving then. "Am I right to order people around like that? Should I be more polite and less bossy?" Questions bombarded my brain until I felt it was about to explode. I closed my eyes and sighed.
Suddenly, I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned my head around. It was Mrs. Low. As though she could read my mind, Mrs. Low explained, "Leadership is not just about being a leader. It is to serve others, not yourself. It is a selfless journey."

7、Research presented suggests that people who eat slowly are less likely than speed-eaters to become overweight or to develop metabolic syndrome (代谢综合征), which involves a variety of conditions associated with stroke, heart disease and diabetes.
In 2008, Japanese researchers, led by Hiroshima University cardiologist Dr Takayuki Yamaji, hired over 1,000 healthy Japanese adults. At the same time, the researchers tracked these adults' health for the next five years.
Eighty-four people were diagnosed with metabolic syndrome during those five years, with a clear connection between eating speed and development of the disease. The incidence rate was 11.6% among fast eaters, 6.5% among normal eaters and just 2.3% among slow eaters. Moreover, they had more chance to suffer from higher blood sugar.
In reality, a lot of research has shown that eating fast is associated with weight gain and other health issues. "You probably do eat more because you are eating so quickly. You really don't have any idea of what you've eaten," says American Heart Association spokesperson Dr Nieca Goldberg. "When you eat slowly, you are much more aware of your eating. You are chewing your food properly and you're also slowing down digestion."
Goldberg says that it should take at least 30 minutes to eat a meal. Goldberg suggests eating with a friend, cutting your food into smaller pieces, chewing more, taking deep breaths and setting your fork down between bites.
A. Doing so also helps you feel full.
B. Those results aren't all that surprising.
C. Eat in a situation where it's beneficial to eating.
D. The speedy eaters were also more likely to weigh more.
E. This shows that when it comes to eating, slow and steady wins the race.
F. So, if you tend to eat fast, you'll likely need to train yourself to slow down.
G. They asked the adults to characterize their eating speed — slow, normal or fast.

8、A small device no bigger than a toaster has generated oxygen on the surface of Mars, bringing the chances of surviving on the red planet a step closer.
The Mars Oxygen In-Situ Resource Utilization Experiment, better known as Moxie, has been generating oxygen from the atmosphere on Mars, as part of NASA's Perseverance rover (漫游者) mission.
Moxie produced breathable oxygen in seven hour-long tests conducted in various weather and atmosphere conditions since landing. During each test, the device produced six grams of oxygen, about the same as a small tree and enough to sustain an astronaut for 15 minutes. It's also found that even in extreme temperatures and after a Martian dust storm, Moxie continued to produce high-purity oxygen.
"This is the first demonstration of actually using resources on the surface of another planet and transforming them chemically into something that would be useful for a human mission," said Jeff Hoffinan, a retired astronaut and professor at MIT.
NASA and the MIT team are planning to build a bigger version of Moxie, as they hope advanced models will produce enough oxygen to support a crewed mission to Mars. "We have to bring a lot of stuff from Earth to support a human mission, but oxygen is a big problem. If you can make it there, go for it and you're way ahead of the game," Hoffinan said.
The device uses pumps that absorb in carbon dioxide which is heated to 800℃and processed to separate the carbon and oxygen. Carbon monoxide (一氧化碳) is emitted as waste while the pure oxygen is left behind.
Expanding the device to support a human mission to Mars presents challenges. It is needed to run continuously for 400 days, a leap from the one-hour tests and its inner temperature should be controlled stably. Moxie has proved to endure the extreme conditions on Mars, however, and the team plans to assess the machine's limits in the coming months when atmosphere is thick and carbon dioxide levels are high. They say they just want to set everything as high as they dare and make as much oxygen as they can.
(1)、What can we learn about Moxie?A、It works well in a series of tests. B、It is stopped by extreme conditions. C、It aims to purify breathable oxygen. D、It produces oxygen enough for a team.(2)、What is the author's purpose by quoting Hoffinan's words in Paragraph 5?A、To present a plan to further explore Mars. B、To demonstrate Nasa's ambition to win the game. C、To show the plentiful and useful resources on Mars. D、To highlight the significance of making oxygen on Mars.(3)、Which of the following best describes the team according to the last paragraph?A、Cautious and ambitious. B、Practical and independent. C、Confident and intelligent. D、Courageous and imaginative.(4)、What can be a suitable title for the text?A、A Nasa Mars rover landed successfully. B、Challenges for a human mission to Mars. C、A little oxygen on Mars, a great leap forward. D、Human beings survive with oxygen made on Mars. -
9、We have a problem, and the strange thing is that we not only know about it, but also celebrate it. Just today, someone boasted to me that she was so busy she's averaged four hours of sleep a night for the last two weeks. She wasn't complaining but showing off the fact. She is not alone.
Why are rational people so irrational in their behavior? The answer is that we're in the midst of a bubble. I call it "The More Bubble".
The nature of bubbles is that something is overvalued until — eventually — the bubble bursts, and we're left wondering why we were so irrational in the first place. The thing we're overvaluing now is the opinion of doing it all, having it all, achieving it all.
This bubble is being enabled by a combination of three powerful trends: smart phones, social media, and extreme consumerism. The result is not just information overload, but opinion overload. We are more aware than at any time in history of what everyone else is doing and, therefore, what we should be doing. In the process, we have been sold a bill of goods: that success means being supermen and superwomen who can get it all done. Of course, we boasted about being busy — it's code for being successful and important.
And our answer to the problem of more is always more. We need more technology to help us create more technologies. We need to move our workload to free up our own time to do yet even more.
Luckily, there is a solution to asking for more: asking for less, but better. A growing number of people are making this change. I call these people Essentialists.
These people are designing their lives around what is essential and removing everything else. These people arrange to have actual weekends (during which they are not working). They create technology-free zones in their homes. They trade time on Facebook for calling those few friends who really matter to them. Instead of running to different meetings, they put space on their plans to get important work done.
So we have two choices: We can be among the last people caught up in "The More Bubble," or we can join the growing community of Essentialists and get more of what matters in our one precious life.
(1)、Why did the woman say she only slept for four hours a night for two weeks?A、The woman took pride in doing so. B、The woman was asking for suggestions. C、The woman knew few people were like her. D、The woman was unsatisfied with her lifestyle.(2)、What does Paragraph 4 mainly talk about concerning ‘The More Bubble'?A、Its advantages. B、Its cause and result. C、The solutions to it. D、The value of it.(3)、What are Essentialists are likely to do according to the article?A、They give up certain things for what matters in life. B、They are eager to become successful and important. C、They are tired of information and opinions. D、They prefer to change frequently.(4)、What's the author's attitude towards "The More Bubble"?A、Supportive. B、Undecided. C、Disapproval. D、Doubt. -
10、Alex is my regular hiking, ice-climbing, and mountain-biking partner. We were on a one-night trip, and what he brought for dinner was just rice. Literally nothing else.
This was not because he was trying to pack as light as possible, nor was it because he was broke. I tried to convince him to at least add some soy sauce (酱油) to it. But no, Alex wasn't having any of it. "I don't need it," he said simply.
Now, if he was talking only about outdoors' meals, I almost understood the reason. When you're ravenous after a day of burning off calories walking or climbing or backcountry skiing in the mountains, how awesome do things taste! Just as the saying goes, hunger is the best sauce. And I agree. Absolutely.
But there's more to it than that. Last month, I went down the coast car camping with my family. One morning, my wife made a statement. "I don't see the point," she said. "It's so much work, camping. But the views at home are better. The beds are more comfortable. It's more peaceful. And at home, the food is better." I'll admit she's right about the first three. But the food? We had a simple pasta one night, snags another, chicken curry the third, but they all tasted good. Better than at home. And it wasn't simply that we were hungry; it was because we were camping.
The real point I want to convey is that meals taste particularly good when I'm camping because it reminds me of things that are easily overlooked at home, where I can just go to the cupboard or the supermarket and grab whatever I feel like. When you're camping, life is reduced to its essentials, and I'm reminded of how privileged most of us are to be dry, warm and fed. More importantly, I'm reminded that, sadly, not everyone is as fortunate as we are. And I'm reminded that, as a society, we should do better for them.
(1)、Why did Alex bring only rice for dinner on the trip?A、He didn't like soy sauce. B、He preferred to travel light. C、He couldn't afford a better meal. D、He thought simple food enough outdoors.(2)、What does the underlined word "ravenous" in the third paragraph mean?A、Exhausted. B、Starving. C、Charming. D、Refreshed.(3)、What makes the author sad in the last paragraph?A、Some people lack the basic necessities of life. B、Some people fail to appreciate what they have. C、People easily forget the beauty of simple things. D、People easily quit camping due to its discomfort.(4)、What message does the author want to convey in the passage?A、Camping is a test of adaptability to challenges. B、Camping is a bonding experience for family. C、Camping is a reminder of our good life. D、Camping is a chance to enjoy a feast. -

No Place I'd Rather Be
When I was born, my parents immediately noticed something wrong. My feet were deformed, pointing inward and curling under. I wore casts (石膏) and foot braces my first two years to correct the problem. Soon after the last set of casts came off, Mom enrolled me in dance classes as therapy for my feet.
I, however, quickly decided to try something else. Not far from my house was an ice rink (溜冰场) in the mall. I remember seeing the shining costumes, the dazzling spotlight, and their graceful movements. I wanted to try skating.
I started taking group skating lessons, but I'd cry before class because going into a group scared me. One thing I've never been afraid of is competition. For me, skating has never been about beating others. It's been about being my personal best. I progressed through various levels rapidly and soon I started winning local and regional competitions. That's because being on the ice has always been the one place I can truly express my emotions. The ice is like home.
Twenty-four hours after graduating from high school, I moved to Canada. I knew deep down that I had to train full-time to give my dreams a chance at reality.
I went to compete in the Olympic Games in 1992. My practice sessions felt great leading up to the competition. Finally, the day arrived.
I remember stepping onto the ice. I took a deep breath and eased into a solid performance that placed me first going into the finals.
Two days later, I was the first of the final six skaters on the ice. My long performance started well, but I slipped while landing one of my easiest triple jumps, and my hand touched the ice. I didn't want to make two mistakes in a row, so next I did a jump with just two spins to play it safe. As I neared the end, I had one more jump, the triple-Lutz. Okay, this is it. I landed it perfectly.

15、You may be old enough to remember Evelyn Wood's name as being synonymous with speed reading and speed learning. Wood's former business partner, H. Bernard Wechsler, shares some of the techniques. Wechsler was director of education at The Speed Learning Institute. He and Wood taught 2 million people to speed read, including Presidents Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, and Carter. Now you can learn with these four easy tips.
Hold Your Material at a 30-Degree Angle
Hold your book, or whatever you're reading, at a 30-degree angle to your eyes. Never read material lying flat on a table or desk. Wechsler says reading from flat material is painful to your retina (视网膜), causes eye fatigue, and after about two hours often leads to dry eye.
Move Your Head Left to Right as You Read
Moving your head while you are reading also helps you to stop reading individual words and read phrases instead. Wechsler says, "The secret of reading multiple words at a time is widening your vision by using your peripheral (周围的) vision." " " Wechsler says. "This practice alone, will help you increase your speed from 200 to 2,500 words per minute." He noted.
Read in Chunks
In that one spot, vision is clearest. When you divide a sentence into chunks of three or four words, your eyes see the center of the chunk most clearly but can still distinguish the surrounding words. Think of reading a sentence in three or four chunks instead of reading every word, and you can see how much faster you would get through the material. "Chunking makes it easier for your retina to use central vision to offer you sharp, clear words to read," Wechsler says.
Believe
The mind is far more powerful than most of us give it credit for. When you believe you can do something, you usually can. Wechsler says repeating positive affirmations 30 seconds a day for 21 days creates linked brain cells in permanent neural networks. Here is one of the affirmations he suggests, "Every day in every way I'm speed learning faster and faster, and getting better and better."
A. Switch, moving your eyes in the other direction.
B. She graduated from the University of Utah in 1929.
C. Relax the tiny muscles on either side of your eyes.
D. The human eye has a small dimple called the fovea (凹).
E. She was the founder of Evelyn Wood Reading Dynamics.
F. Adjust the angle of your computer screen to 30 degrees also.
G. Use positive self-talk to reprogram your belief system regarding reading.

16、In game development, the drive for realism (逼真) to enhance the player's experience never stops. One key tool for achieving lifelike animation is motion catching, or mocap, which has revolutionized the gaming industry by transforming the way characters move and interact in a virtual world.
Motion catching has come a long way since its early days. Initially, it was mainly used in films to capture realistic movements for animated characters. Since the 1990s, game studios have adopted this tool to bring characters to life. The process involves recording the movements of real people in 3D space. The catching environment is carefully set up to ensure accurate tracking. Actors wear suits equipped with markers or sensors and perform various actions, from complex fighting scenes to fine facial expressions. The recorded data is then cleaned to remove noise or errors and mapped onto digital characters. Animators further adjust the movements to make sure they fit well with the game's overall visual style.
Mocap's accurate recording of human movement adds to the realism of in-game animation, making players feel as if they were part of the virtual world. Additionally, Mocap, unlike traditional animation requiring animators to craft each frame carefully, catches movements in real time, which reduces editing time and the need for additional retakes. The simplified workflow allows game studios to meet tight deadlines while still delivering high-quality products. Mocap isn't just about saving time, it encourages creativity as well. With this tool, animators can try out different performances and catch a wide range of emotions and actions. It would take much longer to do this by hand. The more mocap is used, the more time animators have to perfect their work and make each movement as expressive as possible.
Despite its many benefits, mocap comes with its own set of challenges. It requires a large investment in equipment and skilled workers. Additionally, catching natural movements can be difficult if actors lack experience with mocap.

17、What do you see from a handful of seeds? Some see green plants, some see blooming flowers, or just seeds. But one group of Shanghai students saw an opportunity to make money.
Eight students from No.2 Secondary School Attached to East China Normal University started a virtual company selling different seeds and seed products. They successfully sold 28 pictures pasted with different seeds at a campus auction (拍卖) a week ago. The company, which has recruited around 20 student staff members, has earned over 2000 Yuan in the past three months.
"We donated part of the money to a poor school in the countryside of Anhui Province. It's great to realize our ideal of ‘spreading love and culture with seeds' after many tests and lots of hard work." said Senior 2 Shi Chen, CEO of the company.
Just like any other company, their virtual company didn't develop smoothly. Shi Chen and her young colleagues used to sell fresh flowers and old books, and later found seeds might be something that their company could engage in. They bought seeds of various plants and flowers at low prices from a local farm and sold them in schools or on streets. The creative students also made accessories (配饰) and pictures with different seeds.
With little business knowledge, the students had to learn new skills as the leaders of different departments, such as public relations (PR), sales and marketing. They persuaded a joint Sino-French company near their school to give them training in business management.
"They helped us overcome our shyness. We also learned quite a lot of business theory. I found communication skills and teamwork are very important for my job," said Senior 1 Qian Yifei.
The 16-year-old was elected as PR manager thanks to her gift for speaking. She is also in charge of after sales service, dealing with complaints and providing suggestions.
As the head of the company, CEO Shi Chen has a lot more to think about. First of all, she has to learn how to make her colleagues work efficiently as the company only opens at weekends due to all their studies.
"It makes the company more formal, " she said.

18、My birth was a little more dramatic than the standard way a baby enters the world. Within minutes of coming out, I was taken away into another room while doctors gave my parents the difficult news: I was born missing my left hand. This news would come to define the rest of my life, but thanks to a nurse' intervention, telling my parents to treat me normally. I had a relatively normal childhood. I played sports, acted in theater, excelled in school, participated in student government and had playdates with friends. Despite some stares and polite questions about my limb (肢体) difference, I wasn't made fun of.
As kids do, I quickly learned to adapt, working around the "missing" hand. One of my earliest memories is my father trying to teach me to tie my shoes. His two-handed method wouldn't work for me, so I figured out a way to do it with one hand.
I started hiding disability on the first day of high school. I was 13, an age when kids are already very self-conscious. I remember getting on the yellow school bus and one of the other kids stared just a little too long at my left arm. The staring worried me in a way it never had before, and I felt a sudden urge to hide my hand, so I impulsively slipped it into my pocket. For the next two decades, I kept my limb difference hidden at all times. From then on, I realized that my missing hand made me hideous and that if people knew about it they would be scared of me and they don't want to be around me anymore. Honestly, I was terrified that if I exposed my limb difference that people would find me as ugly as I found myself, I felt lonely and scared all the time.
When I was 38 years old, tired of hiding and so lonely, I met someone who convinced me to stop hiding my limb difference. For the first time in my life, I allowed someone to really hold my limb, look at it, take pictures of it, touch it, love it — love me. From that point on, I saw my limb difference as something unique and beautiful about me, something that should be shown, not hidden.
Unhiding my hand made everything in my life better. It was a transformational experience, and through that process, I learned to love myself. This ability to love myself changed how I lived my entire life, and it made me happier.
