Summer Clayton may not have children in real life, but he's "a proud dad" to 2。8 million people on the Internet.

Ways to Employ the Power of Your Strengths

If you have ever had a job interview, you have likely been asked what your strengths are. It's a common question.  It's often easier for them to focus on their weaknesses instead. Below are five ways you can identify your strengths and use them to help you.

 Take an online assessment of your character strengths. Once you have taken the assessment, brainstorm different ways that you can use your core strengths throughout the week, then document your experience each time you use your strength in a new way.

Identify times you've used your strengths in the past.  Write out these examples in a journal. Next, reflect on how these strengths have served you in different areas of your life.

Reflect on feedback（反馈）you've received from others about your strengths. Think back to times when others provided you with positive feedback about your strengths. Write out what the positive feedback was.

Use a strengths jar. Anytime you notice that you have used one of your strengths, write down what strength was used and put it in the jar. 

Engage in new activities and hobbies that test your strengths. Getting out of your comfort zone and trying new activities, hobbies, or classes can help you get in touch with new strengths.  Contrary to what you may think, being good at the activity or hobby you try is not needed to get in touch with your strengths. For example, if you decide to try rollerblading（轮滑）for the first time and fall repeatedly, you may discover that humor is a strength.

Two and a half months before the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season officially begins, forecasters have already predicted and warned that warm sea surface temperatures in the Atlantic and the development of a La Niña in the Pacific may create a "perfect storm" of the conditions needed for major hurricanes.

Key to the formation of any tropical cyclone（气旋）is the combination of warm ocean temperatures and the absence of what is known as wind shear. Alex DaSilva, a forecaster, explains that wind shear occurs when wind changes direction and speed at different heights in the atmosphere. When there's much wind shear, it essentially knocks over those clouds and prevents tropical systems from really becoming stronger. Besides, hurricanes also need surface water to be at a temperature of 26 degrees Celsius or higher. That warm water, and the warm air just above it, provides fuel for the storm. The record data for February are 1.2 degrees Celsius above normal.

Over periods ranging from three to seven years, the waters of the central and eastern tropical Pacific Ocean alternately（交 替 地）warm and cool as a result of a repeatedly occurring climate pattern called the El Niño-Southern Oscillation（ENSO）. During an El Niño, sea surface temperatures in the eastern Pacific increase, and those warmer temperature s affect the path of the Pacific jet stream, which in turn brings drier, warmer weather to the northern United States and Canada, and wetter conditions to the Gulf Coast and southeast. El Niño reduces the possibility of Atlantic hurricane formation because it lowers hurricane activity and increases wind shear. La Niña has just the opposite effect of El Niño. During the 2023 season, ENSO was in an El Niño phase. By the time the 2024 season starts, it is likely to have shifted fully into a La Niña.

"If a tropical storm system comes into this area, it could rapidly intensify, potentially close to land," DaSilva cautions. "And that's why people need to be on alert and have their hurricane plans ready. Because any system with these kinds of conditions can explode very quickly. That's what we're concerned about."

After their six-month orbital journey in the Tiangong space station, the three astronauts of Shenzhou XIV mission shared their experiences and feelings with the public on Friday in the first news conference.

Faced with domestic reporters at the Astronaut Centre of China in Beijing, mission commander Senior Colonel Chen Dong said that every day during their mission was full of work. For example, they were tasked with preparing for and monitoring the arrival of the Wentian and Mengtian lab modules, and making three spacewalks.

Chen recalled the moment he and his teammates—Senior Colonel Liu Yang and Senior Colonel Cai Xuzhe—met their fellow astronauts in the Shenzhou XV flight inside the Tiangong station. "We had paid a lot of attention to news about the Shenzhou XV mission and the crew several days before they set out. When their spacecraft actually launched, we were watching the live broadcast and we were so happy that we kept clapping our hands for a long time. In the hours before their spacecraft arrived at the station, we were supposed to have a sleep but none of us really went to bed. The moment I was about to open the hatch after their spacecraft connected with the space station, I saw them through the window and I waved my hand to welcome them to our home, and theirs," he said.

Liu Yang, the first Chinese woman in space, said the Shenzhou XIV was her second spaceflight and she made a paper "lucky star" each day in the mission. She said she often stared at China when the station flew over the country. "I know that there are numerous females in our nation working hard to pursue their dreams with courage and determination," she said. "I wish that each of us could realize our ambition." Cai Xuzhe, who made his first spaceflight, recalled that eating the vegetables they grew in the space station brought a lot of happiness to the crew, though taking care of the plants was never easy.

With artificial intelligence（AI）seemingly working its way into every technology out there, one area where it's considered particularly promising is in helping doctors. And already, AI is entering some doctors' offices.

Dr. Michael Mansour of Massachusetts General Hospital is an early user who's helped by a form of AI that could someday change the way doctors get information. When a patient comes in with unknown infection（感染）, Mansour turns to a computer program called UpToDate. It's a common tool, with more than 2 million users at 44,000 health care organizations in over 190 countries. Basically, it's Google for doctors — searching a huge database（数据库）of articles written by experts in the field, who are all getting information from the latest research.

Wolters Kluwer Health, the company that makes UpToDate, is trying to incorporate（整合）AI so that doctors can have more of a conversation with the database.

Some doctors hope to use AI to comb through a patient's medical history before an appointment（预约）. In some cases, Dr. June-Ho Kim, who directs a program on primary care at Ariadne Labs, says AI technology may also help primary care doctors look after patients without the help of specialists."It will free up specialists' time to focus on more difficult cases that they need to really home in on, rather than the ones that could be answered through a few questions," he says.

Dr. Marc Succi, who was a co-worker of Kim, says, "AI will finally prove to be a trusted medical tool. AI won't replace doctors, but doctors who use AI will replace doctors who do not. It will become very common just like designing a PPT on a computer. It's that level of leap."

My son and I had been looking for a Boston Terrier(波士频犬) for months before we found one last year. He was very thin, and looked and smelled near death. I thought the man who had him should be punished for treating an animal in such a cruel way until we were told about the story of Lucky, a black-and-white Boston Terrier with a funny face and big sad eyes.

Lucky had been owned by a man called Fred, who had a mental disorder and took medicine every day. This medicine made him sleep quite deeply, so Fred only took it at bedtime. Lucky slept by his side.

One night, Fred took his medicine, went to bed and fell sound asleep. The house wiring shorted and set the house on fire. Being under the medicine's power,Fred just kept sleeping. Lucky barked and barked, but Fred couldn't hear him.When Lucky realized Fred wasn't waking up, he jumped into the middle of his chest and started licking his face. Fred finally woke up and realized the house was on fire. He crawled out of the bedroom window. It took Fred a minute to realize he had left his dog behind. He reached through the window and grabbed Lucky,pulling him to safety.

After the fire, Fred had to move into an apartment, where he couldn't keep animals. So he had to give Lucky to a friend of his, asking him to find a good home for Lucky. My son and I saw an ad in the paper putting Lucky up for adoption and we eventually adopted Lucky.

Lucky inhaled so much smoke that night that his bar k will never be normal again. He sounds like he has a throat full of pea gravel(豆砾石) but he has the spirit of a lion. I'm proud to have him around, and I'm looking forward to many more years with this brave and worthy companion.

As the saying goes,"All roads lead to Rome"——but was that really the case?The answer is not as easy as an unqualified"yes"or"no". It's a little more complicated than that.

In 2015, three researchers at the Moovel Lab dropped a uniform grid(网格)of almost 500,000 points across a map of Europe. These points were simply random spots from which to start a journey to Rome. The team then developed a method to calculate the best route to Rome using modern routes from each of those starting points. The more frequently a road was used across the different points, the thicker it was drawn on the map. Their results showed many roads led to Rome, connecting other major cities along the way, such as London,Constantinople (present-day Istanbul) and Paris, which were also part of the ancient empire.

News of the map spread quickly, but it didn't actually prove that all roads lead to Rome. If the researchers had conducted the same exercise and looked at the quickest way from those same 500,000 points to Berlin or Moscow, the map would also show similar results.

The team used computer modeling to look at most logical routes that connect two points on the landscape, and then compared that with their knowledge of Roman roads to see if they're similar. Modern routes are often the same in most cases. In other words, many of Europe's multi-lane highways are the successors(继承者) of Roman roads.

In ancient times, roads were mainly built to ensure people could travel around within a short time. This has changed in recent years, however; newly built motorways avoid populated places to save money in acquiring land.

The main roads in ancient Rome were straight lines whenever geography allowed. These major roads were built with different layers like earth and rock,and finally big pieces of stone on the top. They weren't flat, but had a round roof to allow proper drainage(排水). Then came other secondary dirt roads that weren't paved. They connected smaller towns and cities, rather than offering any sort of a route to Rome.

So, was the saying in Paragraph 1 right? No, but an awful lot of important ones eventually made their way there.

Science fiction writers create imaginary worlds. The way things work in your imaginary worlds will be based on actual science. So it's important for you to be familiar with the scientific principles and inventions that are related to your creation. For example, if you're writing about humans living on a planet with zero gravity, then you need to know the effects of zero gravity on the human body.

Then you have to figure out the exact rules of your imaginary worlds. And you have to follow them. If humans have evolved to breathe underwater in Chapter 1, your character can't drown in a swimming pool in Chapter 3. If your robots write poetry but not fiction, then you can't throw a novelist robot into Chapter 8.The issue here is maintaining your readers'trust. That means the reader is willing to pretend along with you. If you start out with an ordinary detective novel and then throw in someone breathing underwater in the 6th chapter, your readers' reaction might be,"What the h……?"The imaginative spell is broken.You've pulled the readers out of their imagination. The same thing happens if you change the rules halfway.

Part of your preparation work for the novel is to map out its worlds for yourself in great detail. Decide: the history of the world, the geography, what possibilities it offers, how everything works in this new reality, and how all of these factors affect the way your characters think, feel, and react to things. You don't have to tell your readers all the rules in the first chapter. But you have to let your readers know enough to understand what's going on. This also allows you to work out logical problems and contradictions(矛盾) before you start writing.

When you are writing, remember to make it feel real. You are inviting readers to visit a new world. They will want to be able to see, hear, feel, smell, and even taste what it's like. Whether your novel is about a world without disease or an undiscovered planet, help your readers feel like they're actually there.

As a young person, I never thought of myself as a sports enthusiast because I was quite clumsy. But there was one thing I enjoyed: running. It felt like I was soaring(翱翔) through the air. Sadly, this changed when I hurt my knee two years ago. I had to stay in bed for two weeks and even walking a short way was hard for me. I was so upset that I cried as I moved to the car for several days.

When therapy(治疗;疗法) wasn't working well for me, I signed up for a hot yoga class for girls, Bikram Yoga to be exact. Starting a yoga practice was truly a blessing because it helped me gain strength in my knees but, most importantly yoga helped me attain a more peaceful state of mind, body and spirit.

Since each class was heated to 105°F, every time I stepped foot in the yoga studio,I'd feel a surge(涌起) of negative thoughts come upon me like a big ocean wave. Some of these thoughts were, in the beginning of my practice, so strong that I walked out of the class several times. However, as the months passed by, I noticed that when I didn't get swayed away(动摇) by my negative thoughts, I could stay in the hot room for longer.

After 3-4months of practising hot yoga, my arms and legs were beginning to get definition. I also woke up with so much more energy than I had before starting my yoga practice and I gradually started shedding the pounds(减轻体重) from my body. Yoga literally made me feel as if I'd taken a shot of energy drink and just gave me that burst that helped my knees heal and made my overall health better.

As I saw some of my classmates do poses that looked appealing to me, I started to think maybe I could do them too. Therefore, yoga helped show me that I have no real limitations physically unless I set those limitations myself through eating junk and thinking in negative limiting terms.

Also, practising yoga in front of a mirror helped me connect with myself and practising with a group of people really helped me to feel a greater sense of connection with humanity whereas before I didn't . Overall, this yoga practice has helped me to see I'm part of a bigger picture in life!

In her 17 years on this earth, Shreyaa Venkat has done more to help the planet and the people living on it than many adults. The non-profit organization she 1 . NEST4US, has helped tens of thousands of people in the United States. Through it, it's served over 12,000 2 people in the Washington, D. C. area by providing food and other 3 .
