1. Vary your sentence structure.

Using only short, choppy sentences creates a disconnected rhythm that disrupts the flow, while a series of long, complex sentences overwhelm readers. Varying sentence structure keeps readers engaged and create s natural movement from one idea to the next.

2. Use transition words and phrases.

Transition words and phrases act like bridges between sentences and paragraphs. They create logical connections between ideas. Use transitions like "however," "therefore," "similarly," and "in contrast" to glue sentences and paragraphs together smoothly.

The supporting sentences in the paragraph should work together to explain, develop, or argue that central idea. This creates cohesion within paragraphs and connects them to each other logically. Hawking, whose 1988 book "A Brief History of Time" became an unlikely worldwide bestseller and cemented (奠定) his superstar status, dedicated his life to unlocking the secrets of the Universe. He held the post of Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge, which is a position that was once held by Sir Isaac Newton.

Born in 1942 in Oxford, where his parents spent the final months of pregnancy to avoid the bombings of London, Hawking was said to have been a good student although it wasn't until he was in his 20s that his true potential began to really shine through. Having initially wanted to study Mathematics, Stephen Hawking chose, instead, to read natural sciences with emphasis on Physics.

Having found University life boring, so much so that he joined the University rowing team to relieve the boredom, it was only following an oral examination that he was awarded a first class degree.

While at Cambridge, Hawking was diagnosed with a motor neurone (神经元）disease. He was initially given two to three years to live. The illness gradually robbed him of mobility, leaving him confined to a wheelchair, almost completely paralysed and unable to speak except through his trademark voice synthesiser (合成器）.

Stephen Hawking led an incredible and well documented life. He was referred to in many TV programs, films, and even songs, and appeared as himself in a number of programs including Red Dwarf and the Big Bang Theory. His genius and wit won over fans from far beyond the world of astrophysics (天体物理学）, earning comparisons with Albert Einstein and Sir Isaac Newton.

The latter is certainly what one construction site in Xiamen city, East China's Fujian province, is now known for. It quickly became the focus of attention on World Book Day, which fell on Saturday, thanks to a construction contractor (承包商) building a library for the site's 200-plus workers.

The library is located in a portable container that is around 18 square meters. It was set up by China Construction Third Engineering Bureau Group Co, earlier this month to promote reading and bring knowledge and pleasure to the construction workers.

Over 2,000 books in different categories, are neatly placed on shelves. On the wall hangs a bulletin board listing six rules for borrowing books. The room is air-conditioned so the workers can read comfortably there.

"I like reading all kinds of books, ranging from nonfiction to romantic novels. The library has them all," says Li Chenghai, a migrant worker from Southwest China's Sichuan province.

Compared with playing games on mobile phones or getting hooked on short-video apps, Li prefers reading as books can help him remain calm and broaden his horizons.

Li' s view is echoed by his fellow worker Dongqun, who also comes from Sichuan. Dong is more interested in books on health, cooking and parenting. "The work at the construction site is tiring. I want to learn something to keep myself healthy and inspire me in my daily life," Dong says. She has worked on many construction sites, but this is the only one with a library.

Yi Jingxing, a 45-year-old worker, also frequents the library. "I like martial arts novels. Whenever I am free after work, I come here to read," says Yi, who dreamed of being a martial arts hero as a kid.

What makes dust storms particularly alarming is their great size. These storms can expand over hundreds of miles. With wind speeds of at least 40 km/h (25 mph), they may not be powerful enough to remove feathers from a bird, but they are still strong and need to be taken seriously.

The unpredictability of dust storms adds to their danger. They often come suddenly, creating a thick wall of dust that greatly reduces visibility. This makes driving especially dangerous, as vehicles caught in a storm are at high risk of crashing. If you find yourself driving during such a storm, the safest course of action is to pull over and turn off your headlights to avoid being mistaken for a moving vehicle.

Even in fairly weak dust storms, walking on foot can be extremely difficult, if not impossible. The dust in the air blocks sight and can cause breathing discomfort. Moreover, the strong winds that come with these storms can leave an area looking as though it has just suffered from a violent storm. Seeking shelter indoors remains the most suitable choice.
