It's said that about 4% of people sleepwalk(梦游) at night during their lives. That is, you or some of your families and friends have done so. Sleepwalking happens while one is sleeping. Sleepwalkers walk slowly around the house, say something and then go back to sleep. Their eyes are usually open and look right at you as if they were awake. The next day, they remember nothing when they are asked about what happened the night before.

 Sleepwalking is a common problem for many children from 4 to 12 years old. It could run in family. If one of the parents is a sleepwalker, their children may be, too. Scientists still don't know why people sleepwalk, but they find common facts that may lead to sleepwalking. For example, if one is under stress, gets sick or doesn't have enough sleep, he or she will have more chances to sleepwalk. Sleepwalking itself isn't bad, but it may make sleepwalkers get hurt because they are in fact"sleeping" and don't know what they are doing. It is important to keep sleepwalkers from falling down, running into something and even walking out to drive.

 What can we do for sleepwalkers? First, try not to wake up a sleepwalker because it may make him or her scared. All you have to do is to show the sleepwalker the way back to bed. Second, close the windows and doors to stop sleepwalkers from going out. Third, keep any things that may hurt the sleepwalkers away. Remember, if you find someone sleepwalking, the most important thing is to make sure he or she is safe.

Everyone feels low or down from time to time. It does not always mean something is wrong. Feeling low is common after painful events or huge life changes. But sometimes periods of low spirits happen for no clear reasons.

Low spirit, even depression, is very normal. The key is that we should dare to face it, choose the proper way to solve it. Everything will be fine in the future.

On December 2, China Media Group（introduce） the official mascot for the 2025 Spring Festival Gala: "Si Shengsheng." This cheerful mascot brings good wishes to Chinese people around the world,hoping that everyone has a new year filled with health, happiness, and good luck. 

The mascot "Si Shengsheng" is inspired by Chinese traditional culture. Its design is based the ancient character from the oracle bone script which represents the Year of the Snake. With a cute and classic look, it shows both modern charm and historical meaning. 

(connect）to the gala's theme, "Si Si Ru Yi, Sheng Sheng Bu Xi" (Year of the Snake, Keep Your Spirits Awake), "Si Shengsheng" is full of good energy. The shape of its head and the spiral on its cheeks are inspired by the gilded silver Ruyi from the Tang Dynasty (find) in Famen Temple,  symbolizes "happiness from beginning to end." The bat-shaped decoration on its head and the longevity knot on its tail add more wishes for prosperity and good luck.The mascot's eyebrows and eyes,inspired by a bronze snake-shaped artifact from the Sanxingdui Ruins, which shows the rich(vary) of Chinese culture. The back has woven branch patterns, symbolizing endless lifeflowers like magnolias and peonies show arrival of spring. 

The mascot's main color is bright green, symbolizing the new life of spring. Its color scheme  includes traditional Chinese colors like parrot green, turquoise blue (青绿)， lapis lazuli (青金石蓝)，lotus white,and mandarin orange, mixing together(create) a lively and festive mood. 

As "Si Shengsheng" is introduced, the 2025 Spring Festival Gala is getting(close). The mascot invites everyone to join this big celebration and welcome the Year of the Snake with joy and good fortune!

How to listen in English exams

Listening is an important but difficult part for middle school students in English exams. The following suggestions may benefit you a lot.

Relax yourself.

Before listening, it's necessary to have a peaceful state of mind.  If that doesn't work, drinking some water or washing your face with cold water may help you to some extent.

As soon as the listening starts, focus on it without thinking about anything else. While listening, you can also recall the related knowledge in common with the material concerned, such as the vocabulary about the subject or topic, which is beneficial to your better understanding.

Grasp the main idea.

Sometimes the monologue, dialogue or conversation you're listening to is a little bit longer than you expect. And it's normal that some unnecessary information is included. However, you don't need to understand it completely. 

Ignore the new words.

Without doubt, there usually exist unfamiliar words in listening materials. In fact, it's almost impossible for you to know or understand all the words in the listening material sometimes. It's mistaken to waste much time on figuring them out while listening.

Develop the habit of taking notes.

In the course of listening, it's a good habit to write down the content and leave out the unimportant details.  By taking notes, we can remind ourselves of the key points.

One very important skill that can help a young person in their future is leadership. While some schools may allow more students to take turns to be class leaders, most schools allow only a few students to take on such roles.

When is the best time for us to enjoy the bright moon? Of course, it is Mid-Autumn Festival, one of the most important holidays in China. We look at the moon, eat mooncakes, and get together with our families. The tradition is thousands of years old.

The moon, the key part of the festival, is special to most Chinese people. We enjoy and admire it. We use the round and crescent moon (新月) to describe reunion and separation.

However, Western people see the moon differently. In some stories, the full moon is somewhat scary to people. The most well-known legend is about the werewolf (狼人). A werewolf usually looks like a human, but changes into a wolf-like creature (生物) when there is a full moon. Also, if someone is very excited or even crazy about something, others may joke, "It must be a full moon."

Two years later, we all looked forward to Anne's college graduation. In a conversation about this one day, Erick brought up the subject of a graduation gift for Anne. My husband Rick and I had thought of upgrading some features of her car, since the car was pretty basic and several years old. Erick had a different idea. He knew Anne would go to graduate school in another state and wanted her to have a reliable car. His suggestion was to upgrade the gift to a new car. We couldn't believe our ears. This elder brother who didn't acknowledge his sister in high school wanted to surprise Anne with a new car at her college graduation!

We agreed with the suggestion after getting over our first shock at it.
