It was sunny on October 30th last year. Zhang Siwen, 13, saw some magnolia fruit(木兰果) at school. She picked one, but not for fun. Instead, she took notes(笔记) about the fruit.She carefully drew different parts of the fruit and added descriptions(描述). A few months later, her notes won the second prize at a science competition. Zhang is one of some students who enjoy taking notes in her science class at the Tangwai Junior High School in Shanghai. The students collect fruit, flowers and other plants and write notes that are filled with pictures and descriptions. They learn more about nature through writing these notes. There are also other information(信息) in their notes, such as when and where they got their fruit or plants, what the weather was like and how they felt at the time. Writing nature notes can help students with their creativity(创造性). "When writing these notes, you can describe everything in your own way," said Li Cai, 14, who wrote notes on gingko fruit(银杏果). Li described eating the gingko fruit as being like eating the cooked pumpkin(南瓜).

American schools begin in September after a long summer holiday. There are two terms(学期) in a school year. The first term is from September to January and the second term is from February to June. Most Americans begin to go to school when they are five. Most students are seventeen or eighteen when they finish high school.

After high school, many students go to college(大学). They usually have to pay a lot of money for the college. So many college students work after class.
