3、A Half-Day Adventure (探险)
On a sunny January morning, Class 2, Grade 6 set off for a special half-day activity. The theme was"Explore Wetlands (湿地) — Our Green Treasure (宝藏) " . The plan was simple: visit the"Wetland Ecology Exhibition"(湿地生态展) at Shenzhen Natural History Museum in the morning, and then go to Futian Mangrove Ecological Park (红树林生态公园) for field observation (实地考察) in the afternoon.
The exhibition hall was full of interesting displays. First, students saw a large model of a mangrove wetland. The guide explained that mangroves are special trees that grow in salty water near the sea — their roots look like"breathing tubes"(呼吸管) sticking out of the mud. There were also photos of rare(罕见的) birds like black-faced spoonbills (黑脸琵鹭) and egrets (白鹭) that live in Shenzhen's wetlands. A video showed how wetlands help clean water and protect coasts ( 海 岸) from storms (暴风雨) .
In the afternoon, the class arrived at Futian Mangrove Ecological Park. Everyone wore hats and carried binoculars(望远镜) to watch birds. "Look! There are egrets standing on the branches!" shouted Li Ming excitedly. The teacher pointed to the twisted (弯曲的) roots of mangrove trees and said, "These roots help the trees stand firmly(牢固的) in the soft mud (泥巴) ." Students also saw small crabs crawling(螃蟹爬行) on the mudflats(泥滩) and fish swimming in the shallow water (浅水区). They learned that wetlands are"homes for thousands of creatures ( 生 物)" and"the lungs of the Earth".
