How to overcome travel anxiety
If you want to travel, there shouldn't be anything getting in your way. One of these issues might be travel anxiety. Read on to find out some tips on how to overcome travel anxiety and enjoy your holiday or trip.
To cope with travel anxiety, you need to figure out specifically what is making you feel anxious about your trip. Is it that you'll be on the road for hours, that there would be things out of your control, or that you would have to be surrounded by a lot of people at an airport? Once you understand what causes your anxiety, you can ensure to plan ahead for the best ways to handle it.
Plan out your trip in as much detail as possible.
One reason for anxiety when travelling is that you're out of your comfort zone and won't have full control over everything. To help ease that anxious feeling, try to make detailed travel arrangements. That will give you a sense of control. But it's equally as important to think of alternative plans.
Have with you things that bring you joy.
Things that generally bring you joy can be extremely useful in distracting you from your negative feelings. Alternatively, you can create a playlist of songs you love or make sure you have your favourite TV show or film with you, as these will keep your mind occupied, decreasing your feelings of anxiety.
Don't forget your physical health.
Even if it's just a long walk, make sure to include physical activity in your days, especially the days leading up to your trip and if possible, during the trip as well. Spending some time outside and connecting with nature can have a positive effect on your physical and mental wellbeing, which in turn will help reduce your anxious thoughts.
A. Predict what challenges you might face.
B. Understand where your anxiety originates.
C. Sometimes, however, there can be problems.
D. Thus for anything that could not go as planned, you're prepared.
E. Being physically active is a great way to reduce feelings of anxiety and stress.
F. The more you know about your upcoming trip, the more you'll know what to expect.
G. These can include physical items like a book to read, or a game to occupy your attention.

9、 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
The ocean covers approximately 70% of Earth's surface. It's the largest livable space on our planet, and there's more life there than anywhere else on Earth. Through exploration, we're learning more about its biological, chemical, physical, and geological (地质的) aspects. Exploration leads to discovery, but before we can truly explore, we must map.
Seafloor mapping provides a sense of what may lie beneath and guides decisions about where to explore. While the entire seafloor has been mapped using data collected from satellites, these data provide only a general picture of what's there. Detail is limited on these maps, so some important geographical features like seamounts and objects like shipwrecks (失事船只) remain unseen.
As of 2023,24.9% of the global seafloor had been mapped with modern high-resolution (高分辨率的) technology, usually fixed on ships, which can reveal the seafloor in greater detail. While almost 50% of the seafloor beneath U. S. waters had been mapped to these modern standards, the nation's seafloor is larger than the land area of all 50 states. Thus, there's still a significant amount of seafloor left to be mapped at high resolution.
More is known about the seafloor than the species that call the ocean home. Seafloor maps can provide information about potential habitats, but they can't identify species on the seafloor or provide information about how they interact with each other and their environments. Scientists estimate there may be between 700,000 and 1 million species in the ocean. Roughly two-thirds of these species have yet to be discovered or officially described, with almost 2,000 new species accepted by the scientific community each year.
We have a great deal more to learn about our ocean and what lives in it, but progress is being made. We learn more and more each year. But the ocean will never be fully explored. Earth is constantly changing, and it's important to understand these changes given the importance of the ocean in our everyday lives.
(1)、Why is seafloor mapping important for exploring the ocean?A、It reveals all objects on the seafloor. B、It shows the seafloor in greater detail. C、It guides decisions about where to sail. D、It provides a general picture of the earth.(2)、Why is the seafloor beneath U. S. waters mentioned in paragraph 3?A、To stress the further task of mapping the seafloor. B、To explain the standards of mapping the seafloor. C、To illustrate the geographical features of the seafloor. D、To highlight the significance of mapping the seafloor.(3)、What can we learn from the seafloor maps?A、The quality of the water. B、The environment of ocean. C、The homes of sea species. D、The endangered sea species.(4)、What is the best title of the text?A、How can the seafloor be mapped? B、What species are living in the ocean? C、Why is it important to exploit the ocean? D、How much of the ocean has been explored? -

A robot that can wash windows and do the shopping is something that the futuristic carto on The Jetsons envisioned occurring in 2062, but it is happening now. Unlimited Robotics, an Israeli startup based in Tel Aviv has created a robot that can do the tasks that you don't want to.
Gary, named after the initials of the company's founder and CEO Guy Altagar's children, is not like the robots that are already on the market. The robot has two functioning arms and it is no easy task to build a robot with two arms. In fact, Altagar said that the robot can activate its arms to do a number of tasks at the same time.
Gary is also autonomous, which means that it can do tasks that are programmed without a person turning on a switch like an iRobot. This means that unlike robots that are designed to do just one task like picking fruit or assembling cars, Gary can pick up new skills and perform new tasks just by writing some additional lines of code.
While Gary was designed to do tasks in homes and offices, the robot could easily do work in factories, stores, and hospitals. Gary can hold up to 5 kilos(11 pounds) and has a top speed of 1.2meters per second (3.1 mph) and can adapt to multiple settings——floors, carpets, grass, indoors and outdoors. Gary can adapt to different environments because of the three different infrared (红外线的)and in-depth cameras that are built in.
There are currently nine robots that are being used in medical settings and in hotels where there are presently labor shortages. Gary can do nonmedical work by bringing patients water or extra blankets. But this is just the beginning. The company already has plans to increase the number of robots to 500 by the end of 2024. After that, who knows what other futuristic Jetsonian fantasy will become a reality next?
(1)、Why do the author mention The Jetsons in paragraph 1?A、To lead in the topic of robot Gary. B、To get readers interested in robots. C、To highly praise the current robots. D、To introduce a futuristic cartoon film.(2)、What is the advantage of Gary over other robots?A、It is easily operated. B、It can be programmed itself. C、It is remotely controlled. D、It can do multiple tasks automatically.(3)、What does paragraph 4 focus on regarding Gary?A、Its capabilities. B、Its design. C、Its appearance. D、Its limitations.(4)、What does the author think of the future of Gray?A、Doubtful. B、Challenging. C、Promising. D、Uncertain. -

The relationship between Jeffrey Pang and his son, Kevin Pang, was like hot-and-sour soup. It boiled over easily. The Pangs, who moved to the United States in 1988, wanted their son and daughter to know Chinese culture. As a video game-playing American teen, Kevin wasn't interested.
But when Kevin became a food writer for the Chicago Tribune, he realized he had a valuable resource: his cook-loving dad. "My father and I shared, for the first time, a common interest. I would call to ask about recipes and cooking techniques. He would school me on the world of Chinese food," Kevin writes in the introduction to the cookbook he has just published.
When it comes to cooking Chinese food, he points out that there is no one definition of Chinese food. "Chinese cooking is not hidebound. For example, consider baked pork chop rice, popularized in Hong Kong. It is a pork chop with egg-fried rice. And then you top it with this thick tomato sauce," explains Kevin. "And then you top that with some cheese. It's a very interesting combined dish that has some Western British influences, and it's altogether very Chinese as well."
By the time Kevin joined America's Test Kitchen( ATK) staff in 2020 as its editorial director for digital content, his dad had become an Internet celebrity demonstrating the family's recipes. Kevin recognized an opportunity not only to share his own family's food stories but also to apply the AT method of breaking down recipes into simple steps for the home cook.
"I think this cookbook can teach fathers and sons how to connect, how to find a common interest and improve their relationship," Kevin says. That feeling has found an enthusiastic fan base, generating nearly 3 million views, for their online cooking series "Hunger Pangs", where viewers speak highly of their father-son bond as much as they do of their attractive dishes. Today the Pangs' relationship is rarely sour or hot.
(1)、Why would Kevin phone his father after becoming a food writer?A、To publish his Chinese cookbook. B、To inquire about hot-and-sour soup. C、To seek permission for video games. D、To ask about . cooking Chinese food.(2)、What does the underlined word "hidebound" in paragraph 3 mean?A、Unpleasant. B、Inclusive. C、Inflexible. D、Unpopular.(3)、What can we infer about Kevin and his father from the passage?A、Their relationship has improved. B、They run America's Test Kitchen. C、They do dishes to attract followers. D、Their cookbook is about low-fat food.(4)、What does the passage mainly talk about?A、Cooking at home helps you cook well for less. B、Father and son jointly teach Chinese cooking. C、Chinese culture is becoming popular in the US. D、Recipes and cooking techniques are really easy. -

There once was a little village situated in the rich area of New Delhi, Just beyond the village lay a pond, which was a deep dark blue in the middle. Beautiful plants grew all over it. All the children in the village loved the pond. They frequently came to swim and play with water in it. During the summers, the cool water would refresh them from all the dust and heat, and even prevent them from getting immersed (沉溺于) in social networking apps like We Chat or Whats App." It's so nice and beautiful," they would all say.
Then, one day, the villagers began to send the water from the pond into small channels leading to the nearby fields. These channels looked like tiny streams, and they called them irrigation (灌溉) channels, saying that it would help the growth of the plants in their fields to become taller and greener. After some time, the plants did grow taller and stronger. However, the pond was no longer as deep as before; it became shallow.
Sometime later, a factory appeared near the village, letting out a lot of thick black smelly smoke and released (排放) many chemicals into the pond. As these chemicals traveled from the pond through the channels to the fields, many plants died. The pond turned black and produced an awful smell, causing the children to lose their desire to get close to it anymore. They couldn't even think of splashing water and playing in it as they used to. "It is so dirty. How can we play in it?" they said. Then came the burning hot summer. The pond dried up entirely, without a single drop of water remaining. The beautiful plants surrounding it died too. The once lively village now looked ugly, its beauty lost forever, leaving only memories of what once was.

Health, as the old saying goes, is over wealth, so it's of great significance to keep fit. You can take away our money, our house, or our clothes and we can survive. That is why I eat healthfully, exercise regularly, and keep up my social life.
Eating healthfully is important to maintain one's health. I try to avoid foods high in fat like French fries or cookies. I also try to limit the amount of animal protein I consume. So, it is important to know how to cook these foods so that the nutrients are not lost in the cooking process.
Our muscles must continue to be strong to support our body as we age. Exercise helps the bones build density and helps us maintain our posture. A regular exercise program of cardiovascular training and weight training is an important part of keeping us healthy.
Studies have shown that people with a wide range of social contacts get fewer colds and recover faster from diseases than those who aren't socially active. For the sake of health, I like to play and interact with my friends and I always feel better when I am with them than when I am alone.
By eating properly and exercising regularly, I can keep my body at an appropriate weight and can maintain my health. By spending time with my friends, I can keep my mind as well as my body happy.
A. It can also strengthen our muscles.
B. Take away our health and we will die.

17、 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
It was February 24, 2017, and my husband, David, and I were both at work. It was a day like any other. Our 15-year-old son, Justin, his sister and his friend Mike were playing with a ball in our backyard. Completely a common day!
What happened next was exactly a storm. Justin suddenly suffered cardiac arrest (心脏停搏) caused by a hit to the chest, and his heart just stopped. No pulse, no heartbeat. There are only about 10 to 20 cases a year. And it was almost always deadly until recently, when CPR (心肺复苏) has worked in up to one-third of cases.
Thankfully, the other children acted immediately instead of freezing in fear. Mike called 911 while my daughter called my husband. That second call proved vitally important, as my husband was able to get in touch with a neighbor who ran over and started CPR. And later, the doctors arrived and quickly shocked Justin's heartbeat rhythm (节奏) back to normal.
Since then, I've found myself changed as a parent. There is more worry now. This unexpected incident has made me realize that anything can happen to my children. So, we're doing what we can to be prepared. Earlier this year, Justin took part in a community education event with our fire department teaching Hands-Only CPR to the public. At least 100 participants showed up, and Justin shared his story to show why CPR is so important. At a local university where I work as a nurse lecturer, I've volunteered to join the CPR and AED first aid training for incoming freshmen.
David and I feel very fortunate to still have our son with us. If the kids hadn't known to call 911, he wouldn't be here. If our neighbor hadn't known CPR, Justin wouldn't be here. I think everyone should take the time to learn CPR. You could save a life — maybe the life of someone you love. Cardiac arrest often comes without warning. Everything will be normal right up until the point it isn't. You have to know what to do.
(1)、Why does the author say the incident was a storm?A、Her son played dangerous sports. B、Her son had a close encounter with death. C、Her children made a real mess when playing. D、Her neighbor complained of the children's noise.(2)、How did the author feel about the other children's responses?A、Curious. B、Grateful. C、Surprised. D、Puzzled.(3)、What did the author and Justin do after the incident?A、They worked as medical workers. B、They shared their stories on speaking tours. C、They trained others in first aid skills. D、They introduced first aid courses to schools.(4)、What does the last paragraph mainly highlight?A、The theory behind CPR. B、The ways of ensuring child safety. C、The causes of cardiac arrest. D、The importance of learning first aid. -

With the ocean covering more than 70% of the Earth's surface, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) said scientists and researchers had depended on sonar (声呐) technologies to understand and map the sea floor which had charted only about 10% of the world's ocean. For the ocean and coastal waters in the US, the number is just around 35%.
We know less about our planet's ocean than what we know about the far side of the moon or the surface of Mars. Part of the reason for the lack of observation is the challenge of powering an underwater camera. Researchers have used ships to recharge cameras or observed with a camera tied to a ship to solve the issue, which is expensive and unsuitable for long-term observations.
Recently, researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have taken a major step to iron out this problem by developing a battery-free, wireless underwater camera that could harvest energy underwater on its own for long periods.
To keep power consumption as low as possible, the researchers used off-the-shelf, ultra-low-power imaging sensors. The device takes color photos, even in dark underwater environments, and sends image data wirelessly through the water.
The camera is powered by sound. It changes mechanical energy from sound waves traveling through water into electrical energy that powers its imaging and communications equipment. After getting and encoding image data, the camera also uses sound waves to send the data to a receiver that reconstructs the image. Those sound waves could come from any source, like a passing ship or marine life. As it doesn't need a power source, the camera could run for weeks on end before getting it back, enabling scientists to search remote parts of the ocean for new species.
Now that researchers have demonstrated a working prototype (原型), they plan to enhance the device so it is practical in real-world settings. For future application, these cameras may be used to take images of ocean pollution and create more accurate models to monitor climate change to better understand how climate change impacts the underwater world, and advance various undersea scientific fields.
(1)、What do the data in paragraph 1 mainly show?A、Undersea exploration is poor in the US. B、Much of the planet's ocean remains unexplored. C、The mapping of the sea floor is time-consuming. D、Technology development matters a lot to sea observation.(2)、What limits the researchers' undersea exploration according to the text?A、The complexity of the sea environment. B、The concern about potential sea pollution. C、The shortage of investment in ocean exploration. D、The inability to effectively power underwater cameras.(3)、What does the underlined phrase "iron out" in paragraph 3 probably mean?A、Overcome. B、Face. C、Analyze. D、Illustrate.(4)、Which of the following can best describe the MIT underwater camera?A、Secure and stable. B、Expensive but effective. C、Impractical but advanced. D、Self-sufficient and energy-saving. -

Cordero is the farm manager at Ollin Farms, not far from Boulder, Colorado. The locally grown vegetables on the farm aren't just pretty. "We play an important role in public health nutrition programs," says Cordero's dad, Mark Guttridge, who started this farm with his wife, Kena, 17 years ago.
At a meeting with about a dozen local farmers, two state representatives, and the Colorado officials of agriculture, Guttridge explains how Boulder county has made creative investments in his farm that could be spread to the state or even national level. Before the meeting, Guttridge shows them one of those investments.
A dozen sheep, which Guttridge raises for wool, feed on root vegetables like radishes that have been leftover for them. "So these guys are out fertilizing the vegetable field," Guttridge laughs. "They'll be out here a couple more weeks, and then we'll get our next summer vegetables planted right there." Around the field is a special moveable type of fencing that Ollin Farms bought using financial aid from the Boulder County Sustainability Office. It allows them to move the sheep from one field to another, fertilizing as they go. The goal of these investments is "really building up our soil health," he explains. "That relates directly to the nutrient quality of the food-healthy soil grows healthy food."
