Rizzoli Bookstore

This bookstore has been around for over 50 years, which specializes in illustrated books on architecture, interior design, fashion, photography, cookery, and the fine and applied arts. This is one of the smallest bookshops you will find in the area. The shelves are lined with a variety of used and rare books for your choosing. Outside of the shop, you will find several baskets filled with $2 books to browse(浏览) through in addition to everything else in the shop itself.

Housing Works Bookstore

Address: 126 Crosby Street

This bookstore is a different type of bookstore that you will come across in Manhattan. All books within the store have been donated, and the staff is almost made up of volunteers. The mission of Housing Works Bookstore is to end the crisis of homelessness, and the bookstore earnings are the main way in which it helps achieve that mission.

Strand Bookstore

Address: 828 Broadway at 12th Street

Within the Strand Bookstore, you will find over 2.5 million books covering a wide variety of topics. I have a hard time believing you won't find a book that you want to bring home after visiting the store. And if you would like to sell some of your own books, Strand has a buying desk that is open from Thursday to Saturday (10AM-2PM).

"I should be studying for my mid- term exams," I thought, "not lying here in bed. But my strange illness made me come back home from school in the middle of the term. Now, I have to wait for a specialist who can't see me until the end of the month."

I had been so positive about getting answers for my muscle weakness, but I wok e up with my feelings just as heavy as my body. I started doubting the hope I was holding on to. At this point, I had been lying in bed for two months with no improvement.

I was falling in and out of sleep when I heard a knock at the door. It was a nurse. After I had fainted (昏厥) from tiredness at the doctor's office a month earlier, he decided I was too weak to leave my house, so he ordered in- home care. But it was a Friday night. Nurses never came this late.

My mom walked the nurse upstairs to my bedroom. She looked very concerned.

"Hi, Alyssa, I'm Grace," she said. "I saw your blood work, and your numbers are all over the place. We need to get you into a hospital soon. You know what? My brother worked at a medical center. I'll get you an appointment there first thing Monday morning.

Up until this point, doctors had been telling me that I was stressed and just needed rest, or that something was so wrong that life as I knew would never be the same. What I needed was someone to know that I was living in a very dark place, and to shine some light into my situation. Thank Grace for her appearance.

On Saturday morning, we arrived at the medical center. Because of Grace, my name was in their system and I was agreed to be checked in and seen by their doctors.

The doctors immediately diagnosed (诊断) me with the muscle disease called myasthenia gravis (重症肌无力). They found all of this and more.

In a special time China's history, young people are growing up happily. They feel good about (them), have big dreams, and want to do good things.

China is developing very well, gives young people many chances to learn new things and try new (idea).

Schools are open to everyone, and many students in China can go to college. The country (make) sure that all kids, no matter where they come from, have fair chance to get a good education.

Jobs for young people are many and varied, (especial) in services like online streaming platforms and digital content creation.

Young people love their (country) traditions and old ways. They want (help) make their country better and take part in making decisions that affect everyone.

They want to do well and are ready to work hard in many areas, from helping their communities to (come) up with new thoughts in science. Young people in China also care about the world. They work with people from other countries and want to make friends everywhere. They want everyone to work together for peace and a better life for all.

Two days before they went away, my neighbour's wife4 me to provide me with a list of things they'd5 me to do. All of it was6 except for one item on the list that7: "Juice for Andy and Phil on Thursday." She8 it to me. When their son was a child. he loved trucks.9, he loved to see the garbage truck come by every week. In the summer, he was very10 that the garbage men would get too hot in their truck.

In the spirit of encouraging11 and generosity, his mother allowed him to go and give the garbage men juice when they came by so that they'd have something to12 . And then they just kept doing it,13 their local garbage crew juice every week without fail. It was a14 that multiple garbage crews had lived through. Andy and Phil15 their juice. After fifteen years, I wasn't going to be the one to break their tradition!

But some people think that focusing on your carbon footprint is not very useful. Instead, a new idea called the climate shadow (阴影) has become popular. This idea was first introduced by a writer named Emma Pattee from Portland, Oregon. The climate shadow looks at all of a person's choices and their influence on the planet. The bigger the shadow, the more positive influence a person has on the planet.

Pattee explained her idea, "Your climate shadow is like a dark shape that follows you everywhere. It counts not only how much air conditioning you use and how much gas your car uses, but also how you vote, how many children you have, where you work, how you invest your money, how much you talk about climate change, and whether your words make people feel urgent, indifferent, or in denial about climate change."

For example, if you put solar panels (太阳能电池板) on your roof, your carbon footprint might get smaller. But your climate shadow would get bigger if you talk to your neighbors about your choice. Even just having solar panels on your roof can influence your neighbors to get their own. Studies show that people are more likely to install solar panels if their neighbors have them.

In other words, the climate shadow idea encourages actions that inspire others. Your climate shadow grows when your actions, even unknowingly, motivate others to take positive steps for the planet.
