2、阅读下面短文,在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。
In a classroom at the Confucius Institute of the University of Granada, in Spain, a group of Spanish students mirrored their teacher's martial arts movements, holding a horse stance (马步), pushing with controlled force retracting elbows (收回肘部) in smooth lines.
Leading them was Zhang Daojin, inheritor of Six Harmony Praying Mantis boxing (六合螳螂拳), a kung fu style (originate) from Shandong Province in eastern China. Zhang concluded a two-week cultural exchange program in Spain, sharing Chinese kung fu with martial arts enthusiasts from Spain and other European countries through lectures and training sessions.
"Chinese kung fu is much more than a way (get) fit. It's rich with cultural and philosophical significance," says Alejandro Romero, a 43-year-old instructor started his martial arts journey at 15. "Ever since my first touch of martial arts, I (find) myself growing stronger, both (physical) and mentally."
Six Harmony Praying Mantis boxing is celebrated its unique blend of strength and gentleness. It focuses on internal and external training and reflects traditional Chinese (belief) about the balance between humans and nature.
In addition to boxing, Zhang also introduced Tai Chi and qigong, sparking engaging conversations about martial arts, wellness and the richness of (tradition) Chinese culture.

3、I scan the water in Australia's Kakadu National Park, in search of an ancient1: a saltwater crocodile (鳄鱼). No ripples (涟漪), no sound. But I know it's there.2, just beneath the surface. It could even be3 me right now.
Crocodiles are among the world's most effective hunters. Their eyes and nostrils are positioned high on their heads, while their whole4 is just beneath the water surface. With explosive tail power and the ability to stay underwater for hours, their5 has remained unchanged for 95 million years.6: these animals are built for the kill.
As I continue to scan the water, I see7: a soft ripple. Then, just a few metres away, two eyes break the surface as a huge head rises ever so slightly out of the water. The silent beast8 me. I feel my heart racing. I take a few steps to the left; the crocodile silently follows. Then a few to the right; and again, it9 me. I'm a dot on its radar. A possibility. A chance. I can't help but feel awe for this ancient hunter as it remains motionless, waiting for me to make a10, to take one step too many. It has almost endless11.
In a world of constant change, where we're always seeking innovation and12, it's easy to forget that some things are13 just the way they are. When the foundation is strong, there's no need to14 much at all. Just look at crocodiles (but not too15, please).

4、Being one of the most varied foods, eggs are a great addition to any diet. Not only are they easier to add to just about any meal, but they are also incredibly nutritious and support overall health.
You may experience better brain function. Eggs provide choline (胆碱) — a key substance that enhances communication between brain cells, ensuring messages are delivered efficiently like a well-organized delivery system. Thus, eating eggs regularly can strengthen your memory. What's more, the nutrients in eggs act like brain fuel, keeping you focused during classes or while doing homework.
You may have healthier eyes. Eating eggs helps protect your eyes with natural substances that act as natural sunglasses, blocking harmful light like screen blue light. Egg yolks contain more eye guarding nutrients than carrots, reducing eye fatigue (疲劳) during study sessions.
You can have stronger muscles and bones. Eggs provide quality protein for muscle repair after exercise, while their vitamin D works with other nutrients like calcium and phosphorus to strengthen bones. Regular consumption supports muscle growth during daily activities and keeps bones strong.
It may seem like other foods are much better at making you feel full, but eggs are actually an excellent selection to help you keep it that way. They are the ideal mix of protein and fat and can be extremely satisfying and filling. By consuming more eggs, you are able to significantly decrease short term food and snacks.
A. Eggs are a good source when you're busy
B. You can have a full stomach for longer time.
C. You can get more protein after having an egg.
D. So regular egg consumption helps maintain clear vision.
E. This makes it easier to remember school lessons or daily tasks
F. When you eat eggs regularly, this is what happens to your body.
G. They can help to maintain bone structure and prevent weakness.

5、How far back does your family tree go? A hundred years? A thousand years? What about six to seven million years? An ancient skull (头骨) found in Africa suggests that the human family might be that old.
Discovered in 2001 in the desert of Chad, the skull was nicknamed Toumai by scientists. Toumai is a rare find. The skull is nearly complete. It even includes a few teeth. The Toumai skull is estimated to be between six and seven million years old. Scientists are debating whether the skull is linked to humans.
The finding is not without controversy. Some scientists think that Toumai is the oldest known hominid (原始人) ever found. Others say Toumai is an ape (猿).
Most hominids that scientists are aware of lived millions of years after Toumai. The most famous one is called Lucy. She lived in Ethiopia about 3.5 million years ago. While Lucy's face looked like the face of a chimpanzee, Toumai's skull has both human and ape-like features.
Because Toumai's skull looks different from other hominid skulls, some scientists think Toumai represents a whole new species. Toumai's official name is Sahelanthropus tchadensis.
Scientists were surprised to find a human-like face on a skull as old as Toumai's. They thought hominids turned into humans step by step over time. Scientists mark those changes on a timeline, starting with a chimpanzee-like ancestor and ending with modern humans. Toumai's human-like face and chimp-sized brain suggest that the development of hominids was not so simple. There may not be a direct line leading from Toumai to Lucy to us. Instead, the timeline might be similar to a tree with lots of branches. Different species in different places could have evolved human-like features at different times.
Scientists aren't sure where exactly Toumai belongs on a family tree. Toumai could be like a great-great-grandfather or just a distant cousin. Toumai could also be one of many types of hominids who wandered Earth millions of years ago.

C、The development of hominids may not be a direct line. D、It confirmed the evolution from Toumai to Lucy to human.(4)、Which of the following is the best title for the passage?A、Lucy: The Most Famous Ancient Hominid. B、The Human Family Tree: A Complete History. C、The Toumai Skull: Rethinking Human Evolution. D、Science Debate: Did Humans Come from Apes? -
6、In their spare time, most young people like to enjoy themselves and play on their smartphones. But Li Ruxue is different. He joined a sky-walker gibbon. (天行长臂猿) protection organization, where one of his major responsibilities was picking up gibbon feces (猿粪).
The skywalker gibbon is a top-level State protected animal whose population is smaller than that of wild giant pandas. Through analyzing their DNA from their feces, researchers can protect them better. So over the past four and a half years, Li has followed gibbons and collected their feces for researchers. Li said the job relies heavily on luck and willpower. "Our work and rest completely depend on gibbons. Though the lifestyle is a little bit tiring, it's meaningful." But he has never regretted his choice or felt alone, as he has found more young people engaged in nature conservation.
Like Li, Chu Wenwen, 27, has also worked to protect animals. Listed as a first-class State protected animal in China, the Mengxin beaver (蒙新河狸) is found only along the Ulungur River in Xinjiang's Altay county. To protect them, Chu launched the "beaver canteen" program in 2018, in which a huge "canteen" of about 400,000 salix shrubs (灌木柳苗) was built with the snack money by mostly young internet users. "I am lucky to live in such a great era when young people can realize their dreams while the country strongly supports nature conservation," said Chu.
According to Fan Pengfei, a professor at Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou, ecological protection as an industry can provide only a few jobs, most of which are in research institutes and nongovernmental organizations. But he has seen more and more young people take part time jobs as journalists, photographers and so on to raise awareness of wildlife protection. "Young people are the future of the world and the future of global biodiversity conservation," noted Xinhua.

8、Six Books about Appreciating Living creatures
Here are some recommendations for nonfiction about appreciating living creatures.
Where the Animals Go
This book of beautiful maps traces various movements of wild animals. It is recommended because the COVID-19 pandemic began with the trafficking (贩运) of wildlife for food and body parts. Blame for the human disease can't be laid on animals. It is the direct result of people's blindness to how the exploitation (剥削) and abuse of wildlife are linked to people's welfare.
The Book of Barely Imagined Beings
This book combines illustration and text to provide a deeply inspiring survey of real but astonishing creatures, starting at the axolotl and ending with the zebrafish.
A Different Nature
This book examines the history of zoos and calls urgently for us to reinvent them as places constructed for the good of animals rather than the convenience of people.
Giants of the Monsoon Forest
This book explores the lives of the extraordinary Asian elephants who spend their nights in the forests of Myanmar and India and by day work with their mahouts (驯象人), harvesting timber. These animals make up about a fifth of all Asian elephants left in the wild.
When Elephants Weep
This book offers an accessible, strong look at the interiority (内心) and individuality of nonhuman creatures, showing them to be capable of anger, sorrow, selflessness and gratitude.
The Hidden Life of Trees
This international bestseller is a good introduction to the proposition, not new to philosophers but increasingly receiving scientific attention, that trees and other plants possess both consciousness and intelligence.
(1)、What can we learn from Where the Animals Go?A、The result of hunting wildlife. B、The movements of wild animals. C、The survey of astonishing creatures. D、The urgency of constructing zoos.(2)、From which book can we know about the daily life of Asian elephants?A、The Book of Barely Imagined Beings. B、A Different Nature. C、Giants of the Monsoon Forest. 18、Born during my parents' sea voyage (航海) around the world, I always wanted to make the trip myself. Even at an early age of 8, I began saving and sailing to1 that dream. My parents weren't excited about the idea, but after talking to them about it, they were finally2 to let me go.
At 14, I3 on my 38-foot sailboat in August 2010. Things weren't always4. I had to weather winds and waves,5 reefs (礁) and ships and get used to irregular sleep patterns.6, I was never really afraid: I had7 with my dad to keep my emotions under control, which enabled me to keep a positive attitude no matter what happened.
While I was unable to go to school during the voyage, I continued my8 through distance learning. For fun, I'd play the guitar, read and write. For9, I worked different jobs along the way. I didn't really feel10, even though I was only with other people when I was invited to dinner, or went ashore. I had a long-distance radio so I could regularly send11 to my family. They would always encourage me and give me strength again.
After a long journey, I12 the finish line in January 2012. At 16, I became the youngest person to sail around the globe alone. I didn't know until then that my parents barely slept while I was away,13 my safety.

19、Team sports provide much more than just physical exercise for teenagers. They offer a unique environment that can shape character, teach valuable life lessons, and foster skills that are useful both on and off the field.
One of the most significant advantages is the development of social skills. They must learn to communicate clearly, whether it's calling for a pass in soccer or discussing a strategy during a timeout. This process naturally helps shy individuals come out of their shell and teaches everyone the importance of listening and expressing themselves effectively. Being part of a team means that wins and losses are shared experiences. This shared responsibility helps teenagers understand that their individual actions affect the entire group. Learning to handle defeat without blaming others and celebrating victories with humility are crucial emotional lessons. It creates a powerful connection.
Furthermore, team sports are a practical classroom for time management. Balancing games and schoolwork requires discipline and organization. The ability to manage these competing demands is a skill that will serve them well in college and their future careers.
In conclusion, the playing field is a training ground for life, helping teenagers grow into well-rounded and capable adults.
A. This shared experience builds a strong sense of belonging and community.
B. Teenagers are frequently communicating with coaches and teammates.
C. Therefore, the devotion to a team teaches managing and planning.
D. For instance, a player might have to sacrifice personal glory for the team's benefit.
E. In this setting, they learn about social skills, character forming and time management.
F. Another key benefit lies in helping growth in responsibility and sportsmanship.
G. Researches show exercise can improve mental health and reduce stress.

20、An international team of scientists has made a surprising discovery: some types of bacteria (细菌) living inside tumors can actually produce a special molecule (分子) that helps our body fight cancer. We usually think such bacteria are in our gut or on our skin, but new research shows that tumors have their own unique ones that can help too.
This exciting finding was published in the journal Cell Systems. The researchers focused on a powerful molecule named 2-methylisocitrate (2-MiCit). This molecule is made by a common bacterium called E. coli, which was found living inside colorectal tumors (结直肠肿瘤). How did they find it? They first tested over 1,100 different conditions using tiny worms as a simple model. After this, they used computer models to check their discovery and confirmed that bacteria taken from real cancer patients' tumors could also produce 2-MiCit.
The most important part of the study happened when they tested 2-MiCit directly on human cancer cells in the lab and on fruit flies that had colorectal cancer. In both experiments, the molecule showed strong anti-cancer effects. It successfully killed cancer cells and even helped the sick flies live longer. Professor Filipe Cabreiro, one of the lead scientists, explained, "We are starting to understand the chemical conversation between bacteria and cancer cells. This bacterial chemical can be a powerful partner for chemotherapy (化疗) to treat cancer."
So, how does it work? The study shows that 2-MiCit attacks the energy centers of the cancer cells. This attack causes damage to the cell's DNA and weakens the cancer cell. Because the cancer cells are weaker, they become much easier to kill with a common chemotherapy drug called 5-FU. Using 2-MiCit and 5-FU together was much more effective at killing cancer cells than using either one by itself.
Furthermore, the scientists created a changed, stronger, man-made version of the 2-MiCit molecule. This shows that we have the potential to create new and better drugs for cancer. These findings open up new paths for cancer treatment and personalized medicine.
(1)、What is the main purpose of the passage?A、To discuss the side effects of a drug. B、To explain how bacteria can be harmful. C、To recommend a new drug which is helpful to fight cancer. D、To introduce a new finding on how bacteria help fight cancer.(2)、What can we infer from Professor Filipe Cabreiro's words?A、The talk between bacteria and cancer cells is fully known now. B、The way bacteria and cancer cells interact can be used for treatment. C、Chemotherapy is not needed for cancer treatment anymore. D、Personal microbes are not important for personalized medicine.(3)、According to the passage, how does 2-MiCit help fight cancer?A、By replacing chemotherapy drugs. B、By providing energy for healthy cells. C、By damaging the DNA of cancer cells. D、By making the walls of cancer cells stronger.(4)、Which of the following is TRUE based on the passage?A、2-MiCit was first found in human patients. B、Using 2-MiCit with 5-FU was less effective. C、A more powerful version of 2-MiCit was made. D、The research only studied bacteria on the skin.
