As he left the office, Jerry was upset. How was he to achieve the results required by the school before they would let him play in the game due to start in a month's time? To catch up on all his schoolwork in a month was clearly impossible. His mother would never be able to afford a private teacher and he had no good friends who were capable of helping him.

Thinking positively might not come naturally to some children.  It can help them with their daily challenges, help them recover from failures, and continue to feel confident about the future. To encourage positive thinking, parents can develop a habit of praising their kids. Hanging up cards with positive messages around the house is also a good idea.

Kids learn more by watching their parents than by listening to what they tell them. Parents should teach their children by example to take care of themselves. Besides, parents can go to the gym, and perhaps even take a vacation with friends, which can be beneficial to the children. 

A new study, which was done by Brigham Young University, has found that students perform better in school if they go on more cultural field trips.

Field trips have always been seen as fun for students, and they look forward to their chances to get out of the classroom and go somewhere fun. But field trips can be difficult for teachers to plan, because they need to make sure that there is learning and value included. Some have argued about the worth of field trips, and whether they are worth a student missing a whole day out of school.

However, Heidi Erickson, one of the researchers in the study, stated that there is no harm in taking students out of the classroom, even for multiple days throughout the year, as long as they are learning and in an appropriate space. The study had 4th- and5th-grade students from 15schools take part in this study. They went on three cultural field trip s during the school year, to an art museum, a live theatre performance, and a symphony (交响乐) concert. Then the researchers looked at their school year compared to students who did not take part and this is where they saw the difference.

The study found that students who went on multiple field trips a year had higher test scores and performed better in class over time when compared to students who did not go on as many field trips.

This new study is showing the true value of field trips, especially when they are considered "cultural".

Based on a comic series of the same name, Paper Girls arrived on Amazon Prime Video on Friday, July 29, 2022. It tells the story of four 12-year-old paper girls — Erin, Mac, Tiffany, and KJ — on a time-travelling adventure in the late 1980s, when girls usually delivered newspapers in Cleveland, Ohio.

The comic series was written by Brian K. Vaughan and illustrated (作插图) by Cliff Chiang. According to Chiang, the series explores questions of identity all young people face. "When you're 12," he said, "you're starting to ask yourself, ‘Who do I want to be?' And that's a question that follows you throughout your life."

Chiang, a famous illustrator, was thrilled to draw strong female characters in Paper Girls. He liked the book so much that he decided to revisit the world of the book by drawing pictures for it. "They're changing themselves," he said, "and they also stand for so much potential (潜力) to change the world. Because there's always something broken that they need to fix, and hopefully fix for the better." He said it looks at diversity (多样性) in a new way. "Diversity is so important," Chiang said. "It just shows you that the world has always been diverse."

"Wherever you look, there is a woman in power," said actor Nate Corddry, who plays Larry Radakowski in the time-travel adventure. "The biggest thing is that this lesson that women can run every department is being sent down to the girls." Actress Camryn Jones agreed. The 15-year-old plays paper girl Tiffany. "There's a heavy female influence on this project," she said.

In May, we celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, or AAPI Heritage Month. My family comes from the country of Bangladesh, a country in South Asia. Tens of years ago, members of my family moved to the United States. They lived in New Jersey, where some other relatives had already lived.

While family members have got used to American ways of life, the Bangladeshi culture is still alive through our food and culture. Traditionally in May, we go to my grandmother's house and make homemade paratha, fresh mint tea, aloo tikki, khichri, and phirni, all of which are delicious Bangladeshi foods.

When my mother was growing up, she often asked my grandma to make paratha. "Even now, I ask my mum to make paratha. Having my mum's paratha brings back something from my childhood," she says.

Often, we start our morning by picking fresh mint from my grandma's garden, which we later use in our tea. We then collect what is needed for—the star of our breakfast, paratha. Some simple things include flour (面粉) water, and salt. The most important part is kneading the dough (揉面团). Many things can go wrong, such as adding too much water or not adding enough flour. With practice, the end result is fried bread that is thin.

Shortly after our light breakfast, we prepare aloo tikki. It starts with mashing (捣碎) potatoes. My grandma often uses pink salt and lemon to make the potatoes taste better. Next, the potatoes are shaped into small round pieces and fried in oil. The final thing on our menu is phirni, a rice pudding. It's the perfect way to end a Bangladeshi meal.

My grandmother moved to the U. S. as a teenager. It's a gift to learn about her experiences, and to learn from her about the tastes of Bangladeshi culture. Although Bangladesh is a lesser known Asian country, through people like my grandmother, Bangladeshi culture and traditions will continue.
