2、A few days ago, I watched a video of myself talking in perfect Chinese. I've been studying the language on and off for only a few years, and I'm far from fluent. But there I was, pronouncing each character just as a native speaker would. "My favorite food is sushi," I said — wo zui xihuan de shiwu shi shousi.
I'd created the video using software from a Los Angeles-based artificial-intelligence start-up called HeyGen. The technology, which only needs a single selfie and a script to generate deepfake videos of real people "saying" almost anything, is a testament (证明) to the advancements in AI language tools. This got me thinking about the declining interest in language learning with fewer students enrolling in foreign language courses and the decrease of English proficiency among young people in some places.
AI translation, integrated into social media and messaging platforms, seems to be everywhere. Even language-learning apps are using AI-generated content in their marketing. However, language translation is an art rather than a science. Something enormous will be lost in exchange for that convenience. As Anne, a Chinese translator said, "Building a ladder between widely different languages, such as Chinese and English, is sometimes as difficult as a doctor building a bridge in a patient's heart,"
Language learning fosters cultural competency, a skill that AI cannot simply copy. Learning a different way to speak, read, and write helps people discover new ways to see the world. No machine can replace such a profoundly human experience. Deborah Cohn, a language professor, emphasizes that language learning is actually about understanding and connecting with different cultures; Instead of abandoning language courses in favor of AI, some educators advocate for emphasizing the intercultural aspects of language learning. Paula Krebs of the MLA points out that even with a "universal translator", sometimes, the greater meaning of people's utterance (言辞) remains a mystery.
In essence, while AI language tools offer convenience, they lack the depth and cultural insight that comes from human language learning. The challenge and beauty of learning a language are in understanding the cultural tapestry (织锦) that weaves through words, something AI has yet to achieve.
(1)、Why does the author give the example in paragraph 1?A、To promote the language software. B、To show off his Chinese language skills. C、To prove learning a language is a wasted effort. D、To encourage critical thinking about AI language tools.(2)、What can we learn from paragraph 3?A、AI translation deserves more attention. B、Language apps play a key role in marketing. C、Language translation is far beyond technology. D、Learning a different language is an uphill battle.(3)、What is the key benefit of learning a language according to the passage?A、Better digital literacy. B、Improved translation skills. C、Deeper cultural confidence. D、Effective intercultural interaction.(4)、What does the author imply in the last paragraph?A、AI language tools offer convenience. B、AI facilitates language learning in terms of culture. C、AI is far from perfect in helping language understanding. D、AI has achieved success in the development of language learning tools. -
3、It's no secret that reading good news feels a lot better than reading bad news. Like, would you rather bite into a lemon, or sip on a fresh glass of lemonade?
The world is full of problems and conflicts and we need to stay informed and alert (警觉的) to what's going on around us. While reading traditional, more negative news is important, consuming good news is also part of staying informed. And it also brings meaningful benefits, like reduced stress and anxiety, higher rates of engagement, community building skills, and inspiration for creating a better world. Plus, knowing what to look for in the good news landscape is a key part of improving our media literacy skills and being thoughtful news consumers.
In fact, good news, known as solutions journalism, is becoming more popular, as publishers and news stations discover the benefits of sharing positive stories. Good Good Good is one of them. A team of reporters and editors there work daily to deliver stories that make readers feel hopeful and equipped to do more good with possible solutions.
"If it bleeds, it leads." has long been a saying used in the media to describe how news stories about violence, death and destruction draw readers' attention. The thing is, however, there's also good stuff out there — the delightful and kind parts of humanity. "Beautiful stories are happening worldwide. When you do find them, the world can suddenly feel like a very different place. Good news is a vital part of how we learn about the world and solving the world's problems." Hervey, one of Good Good Good's editors said.
A. Share good news with people around you.
B. It's just that we don't hear as much about them.
C. But the "bad news" has its place in the world.
D. It provides a more balanced view of the world.
E. And so, negative news stories are everywhere on news media.
F. Heartwarming stories make you cry and feel good.
G. The news media company is devoted to providing good news intentionally.

4、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Lucy opened her sleepy eyes and looked out of the window at the field below. "No!" she cried, now fully awake. Maya, the cow was in Mama's daisy patch (雏菊花田).
"I must have forgotten to close the gate last night," Lucy thought as she pulled a shirt over her head. Mama was planning to sell daisy bouquets (花束) at the fair next week. But Maya was eating the flowers.
Lucy hurried outside and grabbed (抓) the lead rope hanging on the door. "Why can't you stay in the field?" she called to Maya as she headed across the yard to the daisy patch. Maya didn't listen. She just stood in the patch eating the beautiful flowers. "When I grow up, I'll be an artist and paint pictures all day," Lucy thought. "I'll never own a cow. Too much trouble."
Just as Lucy was about to put the lead rope around Maya's neck, the family dog, Red, rounded the corner of the house. The cow couldn't stand Red. She took off, running through the daisies and across the yard. Lucy tried to stop Maya, but the cow was too fast. She finally ran through the open gate and into the field.
"Thank goodness!" Lucy said as she closed the gate and tightened the latch (插紧门闩). She turned to look at the flower garden. What a mess! Half of the daisies were either eaten or stepped on.
Hearing the noise, Mama came out of the house. "What's going on?" she asked. She looked sadly at her garden. "I forgot to lock the gate and Maya ran in," Lucy said. "I'm so sorry, Mama." "I know you are." Mama walked up to Lucy and gave her a hug (拥抱). "You learned an important lesson today."
Lucy's heart was heavy as she went back into the house. She had to think of a way to make it up to her mother. A painting on the wall caught Lucy's eye. "That's it," she smiled.

8、Studying longer does not necessarily mean studying better. Below are some great ways of learning as much as you can without getting too stressed.
Find the right place to study.
The first thing you need to do is avoid distractions (分散注意力的事物) while studying. You should keep away from television sets and phone calls. Get all of your study materials together, so you will not be interrupted in the middle of your session.
Break down the tasks into smaller parts.
When you have gotten everything ready, list the items you need to study, and arrange them across several hours or days, depending on how big your load is. As a general rule, assign (分配) at least one hour to each subject. By doing this, you will be able to know more easily how long you need for each topic.
Schedule study breaks.
When you have listed all of your tasks and made a schedule, you should arrange study breaks. This will give your eyes some time to rest, and yourself a chance to go to the bathroom or have some coffee. Scheduled breaks will reduce the need for you to interrupt yourself to the lowest level during the study session.
Put your tasks in order of importance.
Just in case you run out of time to study, or if you think you do not have enough time to cover all topics, you should study in an order.
A. Each break may take about 15 minutes every two hours.B. Learn to arrange the subjects in order of importance.
C. This means going to one place that will give you peace and quiet.
D. The key to efficient studying is following the schedule strictly.
E. You can find a way to test your knowledge by having a study partner.
F. If you have a broad subject, you will need to break it down into smaller parts.
G. To make the best use of your time, you need to learn how to study efficiently(高效地).

9、He was already asleep. His bag stood ready by the backdoor. His pencil box was filled with freshly sharpened (削尖的) pencils. A big day lay ahead. My eyes filled with tears (泪水) as I thought about his new journey in the morning. My baby was off to high school.
I thought back to his first day of kindergarten (幼儿园). How he ran in excitement to the bus as my heart broke, how his smiling face in the window caused my tears to flow. I thought about how hard it was to let go of his hand and let him fly on his own for the first time. But this time, I found it was even harder.
Kindergarten is paper and glue sticks. High school is computer projects and technology you don't understand. Kindergarten is Mother's Day gifts made with hand-prints. High school is a funny card and a "Love you, Ma." Kindergarten is emails to the teacher about his difficulty with math. High school is depending on him to ask for help in class. Kindergarten is afternoons at the park. High school is keys to the car. Kindergarten is excited talk about his day. High school is just "My day was fine, Ma."
Kindergarten is the beginning. High school is the beginning of the end. You know that your time with him at home will become less and less. The moments where your family will always feel complete at the end of the day are coming to an end. I've raised him to leave us. I've raised him to be independent (独立的), and I'm watching him pull away, one day at a time.
As I watched him board the bus to high school, my eyes filled with tears again and my heart ached more deeply than it did on his first day of kindergarten. The bus pulled away, and my eyes met his. He gave a quick wave (挥手) and mouthed, "Love you." And then he made a silly face, and he wanted his mom to go back into the house now and set her mind at rest. I waved back and laughed. High school, here we come.

B、To make himself less nervous about high school. C、To stop the author from worrying about him. D、To show his joy of going to senior high. -
10、Being the cat's whiskers (胡须) is a humorous and positive way of noting that something is considered to be very near perfect. The humorous and cute images that this particular term brings to mind have to do with the use of the whiskers of the cat, including the ability to express feelings, sense changes in the environment, help with hunting (捕猎), and help the cat measure distance (测量距离).
Different views are held on the exact origin (起源) of the English saying "cat's whiskers". Some believe that the term, along with the similar "cat's meow", has its origin in girls' boarding schools of the 19th century. Others believe that the term was first brought to life by Thomas Dorgan, an artist who was active during the early years of the 20th century. What is generally agreed is that by the 1920s, both "cat's whiskers" and "cat's meow" were often used in the United States, and commonly used as a term among young people of college age.
Unlike other sayings that may sometimes carry positive or negative meanings depending on the setting, "cat's whiskers" is always used in a positive way. An employer (雇主) may use the term to refer to an employee who produces wonderful work. Proud parents may say this to their children when they perform well in a school play or win some type of competition. In each situation, "cat's whiskers" is used to show warm feelings for another person.
While not used as commonly as before, being the cat's whiskers is still generally understood to be a good thing. Younger people may sometimes have to receive an explanation of what the term means, which can lead to seeing the use of the saying in a funny way. Even those who consider the saying to be outdated and not worthy of use in public may still use the term to show love and respect in private settings.
(1)、The expression "cat's whiskers" can be used to describe something that ______.A、will never happen B、is better than everything else C、causes misunderstandings D、needs to be measured(2)、What do most people believe about "cat's whiskers"?A、It was used a lot in the US in the 1920s. B、When "cat's whiskers" got popular. C、How "cat's whiskers" is used. D、Why "cat's whiskers" has different meanings.(4)、How might young people nowadays feel hearing people say "cat's whiskers"?A、Embarrassed. B、Excited. C、Pleased. D、Confused. -
11、Math had never been something I was good at since middle school. Classes became harder in high school, and I was even further from a math teacher's dream student. So at the start of my freshman year, I had an aversion to math. It wasn't that I didn't want to do well, but simply that I didn't think I was able to do well. "I can't" became my state of mind in all things related (有关的) to math.
However, I was soon to learn that "I can't" was not a choice in Mr. A's class.
Mr. A always greeted (迎接) us with open arms as he said, "Welcome! Smile! It's a great day to be alive!" It was clear that Mr. A had a true passion (热情) not only for math but for teaching. If Mr. A ever experienced bad days in life, he never showed it. Mr. A greeted us with that same smile every day. He encouraged each student, from the top achiever to the "I can't" student.
I found myself looking forward to math class, although I still hated the subject itself. Being in Mr. A's presence made me feel good, as if I had the chance to succeed. As the year progressed, I spent increasingly more time on my homework, and I met with Mr. A weekly. My classmates began to do the same, and it became "cool" to have lunch and talk with Mr. A. We didn't know it at the time, but he was changing our attitudes (态度).
Though my story is not one of overnight success and I didn't become a straight-A math student, my hard work did begin to pay off and my grades slowly began to climb. There were hard times, of course. Difficult math questions sometimes succeeded in bringing me down, but Mr. A kept reminding (提醒) me, "Kate, smile! It's a great day to be alive!"
(1)、What does the underlined word "aversion" in paragraph 1 probably mean?A、Interest. B、Responsibility. C、Dislike. D、Misunderstanding.(2)、What first made the author look forward to math class?A、Mr. A's attitude. B、Her interest in math. C、Her friends' encouragement. D、The top achievers in her class.(3)、How did the author feel about her talk over lunch with Mr. A?A、It was straight. B、It was awkward. C、It was challenging. D、It was impressive.(4)、How did the author change in math?A、She made slow progress. B、She fell in love with math. C、She became a straight-A math student. D、She became comfortable with difficult math questions. -

I really suggest being kind and outgoing. It is better to be really social and introduce yourself. You won't get any where being shy.
Your weight really doesn't matter. If you're really that uncomfortable with it, try working out.

Don't worry about your weight, and don't let it get you down. "Those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind."
Remember that. Concentrate on schoolwork. Be nice, polite, and stay strong. Don't wear the ‘in' clothes just because everybody else does. Wear clothes for YOU. Try babydoll tops and flats; they're very nice and work for almost all body types (类型).
