Yang Zhiyang is a 23-year-old boy from Baoji, Shaanxi Province. He has become an example for young people as he works full-time to take care of his mother, who has ALS (渐冻症). Yang's mother, Su Jing, got ALS in 2010 and she couldn't do normal things easily. Because Yang's father had to work for long hours to make money, Yang started to take care of his mother after finishing college in 2020.

Because of the disease, Yang's mother needs help with almost everything. She needs to be carried up and down the stairs. She also has difficulty speaking. She can still type on her mobile phone, but most of the time, she chooses to communicate with her son in another way.

"My mother and I use eye contact (接触) for most of our communication," Yang says. "For example, when she wants to sleep, she uses her eyes to show that she is tired, and she turns her head towards the bedroom. And when she needs water, she will look at the water cup on the table."

For many things, Yang has to be very careful, including helping her mother bathe and use the toilet. Though the work is difficult, Yang enjoys all the time he spends with his mother. He accompanies (陪伴) her every time she exercises. To make it more fun, he often sings to her.

Yang's love for his mother has touched many people. But Yang says it's only natural that he should take care of his mother. "My mother brought me up. I'm just doing what a son should do," he says.

The icy wind howled across the empty street and it was an unusually quiet day in the emergency room on December 25th. Quiet, that is, except for the nurses who were standing around the nurses' station complaining about having to work on Christmas Day, for people were supposed to be spending time with their families, exchanging gifts and wishes.

I was guiding nurse that day and had just done clean-up in the waiting room. Since there were no patients waiting to be seen at the time, I returned to the nurses' station for a cup of hot coffee that someone had brought in for Christmas. Just then, a colleague came back and told me I had five patients waiting to be evaluated.

I was surprised, "Five, how did I get five; I was just out there and no one was in the waiting room."

"Well, there are five signed in."

So I went straight out and called the first name. Five bodies showed up at my guiding desk, a pale short woman and four small children in untidy clothing.

"Are you all sick?" I asked suspiciously.

"Yes," she said weakly and lowered her head.

"Okay," I replied, unconvinced, "Who's first?" One by one they sat down, and I asked the usual beginning questions. When it came to the descriptions of their symptoms, things got a little vague. Two of the children had headaches, but the headaches weren't accompanied by the normal body language of holding the head or trying to keep it still. Two children had earaches, but only one could tell me which ear was affected. The mother complained of a cough, but seemed to work to produce it.

Something was wrong with the picture. Our hospital policy, however, was not to turn away any patient, so we would see them. When I explained to the mother that it might be a little while before a doctor saw her because there were several more critical patients. She responded, "Take your time; it's warm in here and there is a Christmas tree."

The development of the movie industry in India is mostly conditional upon the actions of present-day companies. Therefore, the latter is concerned about increasing (it) influence by entering into a new partnership with western film production companies. As I grew into my teens, the memories of those childhood12 never really left me; often in moments of13 I would recall the sense of security I had then. I14 how patient and15 a stranger was to have spent her time on a little boy.

Police officers are often referred to as cops. Some argue the term is shortened from "copper" and comes from copper badges (徽章) worn by a policeman. Others say that it stands for "Constabulary of Police".

General agreement on the word origins of "cop", however, suggests that the term is based more on the policeman's job than on his clothing or job title. In Latin, the verb capere can be defined as "to capture." In French, the verb is caper. "To cop" in English is to seize or to take.

Some also believe that the Dutch word kapen, which also loosely translates to "to steal or take", is related to policemen being called coppers or cops. Essentially, the police force was there to take criminals off the streets. And since American English especially draws from German, French, and Latin, the specific language origin of kapen or capere creates a ready path to the term "cop".

And it is no longer considered rude. However, certain other terms for police officers are definitely unwelcome. While British Police might not mind being called "bobbies", no police members like to be referred to as "pigs" or the "fuzz". Some don't mind the term the "heat" as applied to the whole police force, but the police force does not generally take kindly to terms given to them by criminals.

The term "cop" is in such common usage now that a show documenting their work on the job is called Cops. Even though J. Edgar Hoover once highly objected to the term, it is now fine to refer to a policeman or a police woman as a cop.

As the years went by, my designs became more complicated. Making sculptures isn't actually enjoyable. I sometimes work for 16 hours a day without breaks, and it takes me up to three months to finish a sculpture. I have to hold my breath during the sculpting process.

One time, a fly landed on a Cinderella carriage sculpture I was working on. The fly's wings blew it away, and it was lost. I was heartbroken. Another time, I accidentally breathed in a microscopic Alice from Alice in Wonderland. Alice is now in the Wonderland forever. But it did give me the chance to make an even better one the second time around.

My sculptures have taken me to incredible places. In 2012, I met the queen, giving her a crown on the head of a pin. In 2013, I received my first Guinness World Record for creating the smallest sculpture by hand, a 24-carat gold motorbike that fitted inside a hair. In 2017, I beat my record with a sculpture of a human fetus (胎儿) that measured 0.078 mm by 0.053 mm.

I was diagnosed with autism (自闭症) as an adult. In school, my teachers had pointed me out as an example of failure; now, I see my autism as a gift. It's pushed me to be the best I can be. I hold workshops in schools for neurodiverse children, sharing my story and helping them create their own miniature figures.

The microscopic world has always been my happy place. I've tried to make bigger sculptures, but small is best for me. We need to appreciate the little things in life. Small things can also be mighty, too.

My daughter and I pushed the overloaded cart in the store. She reached up and took another toy, and without asking, threw it in the cart. "Is that for you?" I asked.

"No, it is for my friend," she answered. I was proud of her. Being an only child and an only grandchild, she could have been spoiled (宠坏), but instead she was caring and very giving, almost more than necessary.

On the drive home, my daughter was unusually quiet. Finally, she said, "Mommy, if Santa brings all the gifts, why are we buying them?" I quickly tried to think of an answer. Before I could say anything, she shouted, "I know why. We're Santa's helpers!" Yes, she took the words right out of my mouth. Yes, that's exactly what we are.

After a few days, she came home from school quite upset, explaining, "Mommy, there's a girl in my class who's very mean (吝啬) to me and my friends. She is Lucy. We talk to her anyway, and when we asked her what she was getting for Christmas, she started crying. She said she wasn't getting anything because her mother is always sick and her father doesn't have the money to pay for anything, not even food."

I calmed her down, knowing what she was thinking about.

One evening before Christmas vacation, my daughter began to wrap (包装) the gifts for her friends. I gave her a roll of wrapping paper, but she came back and asked for more. I thought it was strange, but I was busy then, only telling her to get whatever she needed.

On the last day of school, I had to leave for work extra early, so I asked my friend to pick up my daughter since she had quite a few gifts to take for the class Christmas party. I never actually saw what my daughter took to school.

On Christmas Eve, I went to wrap gifts, but all of them were missing. I looked high and low and couldn't find them.
