Be appreciative. Consider all your parents have done for you. And You may be more willing to improve the relationship or compromise, or be more forgiving when your parents annoy you.
Keep calm. Otherwise, you may end up saying things you regret, which will only damage your relationship further and make you seem immature. 2、Some studies estimate that by 2025, about 35.7 million Americans or 22% of the workforce will be remote workers. Now more people are choosing to welcome a location-independent, technology-enabled lifestyle that allows them to travel and work remotely. They are called digital nomads (数字游民), and the trend is becoming more and more widespread.
The growing popularity of this location-independent lifestyle has stimulated an interest in digital nomad visas. As a result, countries are introducing visa options to lure foreigners for extended stays. For example, Indonesia announced that the country is developing a new visa that would be valid for five years — longer than any other digital nomad visa currently available. The emergence of digital nomad visas signifies a progressive response to the rising demand for this new lifestyle.
Meanwhile, the conventional image of digital nomads is undergoing a transformation. Digital nomads used to be thought of as twenty-somethings backpacking from hostel (旅舍) to hostel, looking for anywhere they could plug in their laptop. But flexible work and homeschooling have helped introduce a new type of digital nomad that wants to see the world and create lasting memories with their families. It's called the "anywhere worker". Most anywhere workers can be found in high-tech jobs, with 61% working full-time. Almost half of people in this category are married, and, unlike the typical digital nomad, 70% are parents who take their families with them.
Consistent with the changing image of digital nomads, there is also a shift from valuing possessions to focusing on experiences. Millennials (千禧一代), in particular, are fueling this trend. Rather than spend money on expensive watches or luxury cars, younger generations prefer to invest in experiences like concerts, rock climbing and traveling. According to one study, more than three in four Millennials would rather spend their hard-earned money on a thrilling experience or event over buying a product.
As remote work opportunities increase, the trend of living a digital nomadic lifestyle is expected to continue growing, allowing more individuals to pursue their dream lifestyles.
(1)、What makes remote work possible?A、The rise of digital nomads. B、The availability of digital nomad visas. C、The rapid development of advanced technology. D、The increased requirement for work-life balance.(2)、What does the underlined word "lure" mean in Paragraph 2?A、Guide. B、Attract. C、Request. D、Entertain.(3)、What do most "anywhere workers" value nowadays?A、Time spent with families. B、Regular working hours. C、Quality homeschooling. D、Jobs in high-tech companies.(4)、What is Paragraph 4 mainly about?A、The shopping habits of Millennials. B、The analysis of Millennials' image. C、The changing values of digital nomads. D、The benefits of a digital nomadic lifestyle. -
3、We know sleep quality is important for good health, that adolescence (青少年时期) is an important time for brain development, and that teens don't always get a huge amount of sleep — and new research gives us some fresh understanding of how that all fits together.
Researchers used data from 3,222 adolescents aged 9 to 14. They divided them into three groups based on sleep habits: the worst (averaging 7 hours and 10 minutes per night), the best (7 hours and 25 minutes), and those in between (7 hours and 21 minutes). While there wasn't much difference between these groups in terms of academic achievement, the best sleepers showed noticeable improvements in cognitive (认知的) tests for reading, problem solving, and focus, compared to the worst sleepers. "Even though the differences in the amount of sleep that each group got were relatively small, at just over a quarter-of-an-hour between the best and worst sleepers, we could still see differences in brain structure and activity and in how well they did at tasks," says clinical neuropsychologist Barbara Sahakian from the University of Cambridge. "This shows us just how important it is to have a good night's sleep at this important stage in life."
The group of young people who slept the longest per night was also observed to have the largest brain volumes, the lowest heart rates, and the highest levels of brain connectivity, compared to the other groups. Worryingly, 39% of the young people had the poorest sleep data, 24% were in the middle group, and 37% had the best sleep scores.
The research can't prove cause and effect between sleep and brain function, but together with other studies, it shows that young brains need sleep protection. Psychologist Qing Ma said there are studies supporting the idea that better sleep may lead to better brain function and test performance. This study reminds teens and parents to reduce time on mobile devices. Regular good sleep helps us function properly, yet we know little about adolescent sleep despite its importance.
(1)、What does the research aim to do?A、Measure heart rate differences in teenagers. B、Analyze the effects of sleep habits on good health. C、Investigate sleep-brain relationships in adolescents. D、Compare academic achievements among adolescents.(2)、What can be inferred about the "best sleepers" from Paragraph 2?A、They had the lowest heart rates. B、They performed better in cognition. C、They had better academic performance. D、They spent significantly more time sleeping.(3)、Why are the percentages listed in Paragraph 3?A、To compare sleep habits. B、To draw attention to the sleep problem. C、To explain the study's sample size. D、To challenge previous research findings.(4)、What does the author imply in the last paragraph?A、Longer sleep betters academic achievement. B、Sleep habits are well-understood in current research. C、Protecting sleep during adolescence may require practical changes. D、Reducing screen time is likely unnecessary to improve sleep quality. -
4、For many, finding an unattended wallet filled with 400 in cash would be a source of temptation (诱惑). But the urge would no doubt be greater if you were living on the streets with little food and money. All of this makes the actions of the homeless Tom Smith even more remarkable.
After spotting a wallet on the front seat inside a parked car with its window down, he stood guard in the rain for about two hours waiting for the owner to return.
After hours in the cold and wet, he reached inside and pulled the wallet out hoping to find some ID so he could contact the driver, only to discover it contained 400 in notes, with another 50 in spare change beside it.
He then took the wallet to a nearby police station. When the car's owner John Anderson and his colleague Carol Lawrence returned back, they were shocked to find two policemen standing next to it. The policemen told them what Mr. Smith did and that the wallet was safe.
The pair were later able to thank Mr. Smith for his kindness.
Mr. Anderson said: "I couldn't believe that the guy never took a penny. To think he is sleeping on the streets tonight when he could have stolen the money and paid for a place to stay in. This guy has nothing and yet he didn't take the wallet for himself; he thought about others instead. It's unbelievable. It just proves there are honest guys out there."
Mr. Smith's act drew much of the public's attention and won praise from social media users after Mr. Anderson posted the story on Facebook.
Now Mr. Anderson has set up an online campaign to raise money for Mr. Smith and other homeless people in the area, which by yesterday had received 8,000. "People have been approaching him in the street; he's had job offers and all sorts," Mr. Anderson commented.
(1)、What can we learn from the passage?A、Tom Smith might later get a job offered by kind people. B、Tom Smith received 8,000 from the owner of the wallet. C、The police found the owner of the wallet through an ID card. D、John and his colleague thanked Tom Smith later face to face.(2)、Mr. Anderson's words tell us that ________.A、Tom Smith was always thinking of others B、Tom Smith took some pennies from the wallet C、usually the homeless are greedy for money D、sometimes he didn't have faith in others(3)、Which words can best describe Tom Smith?A、Generous and considerate. B、Kind and honest. C、Respectful and determined. D、Reliable and stubborn.(4)、What does Tom Smith's example show?A、Great minds think alike. B、Patience is the best remedy. C、Reap what you have sown. D、Fortune favors the bold. -

Lena had always been confident in her studies — until she entered high school. In her first math class, Mr. Carter wrote a series of expressions on the blackboard. While most of her classmates nodded and took notes, the symbols "x" and "y" seemed to swim before her eyes. She felt as if she were listening to a "foreign language".
The confusion only grew when she sat down to do her homework. For two hours she remained at her desk, staring at the textbook and the blank pages of her notebook. She reread the first question ten times, but the numbers refused to make sense. Upset and ashamed, she never felt so defeated by a subject.
Her anxiety deepened over the following days. She stopped raising her hand. She was worried that her questions would sound stupid. One day, Mr. Carter called on her to answer a question. Lena stood up, her face burning with embarrassment because she was totally clueless about the answer. But a boy named Jax said in a low voice, "Even a middle schooler knows that!"
Lena bit her lip and sank back into her seat with her head hanging very low. Seeing this, Mr. Carter asked Lena to stay after class. Instead of criticizing her, he said gently, "I notice you've been struggling, Lena. Math can be tough at first. Like learning to play a musical instrument, it requires the right method and a lot of practice. I have talked to Zoe and she has agreed to help you. You know, she is a kind girl and is always ready to help."
The next day, Mr. Carter rearranged the seats, and Zoe became Lena's new deskmate.

9、I grew up in a small coastal town where hurricanes (飓风) were a regular threat. My parents always taught me that even1 actions could make a difference when disasters struck.
One summer, a severe hurricane warning was issued. While others rushed to buy supplies, my father2 our neighbors' yards to help move container3 indoors. I asked why he wasted time on such small things. He smiled, "These plants may seem4, but to Mrs. Johnson, they're memories of her late husband."

11、In modern society, sitting for long hours has become the norm for many people — whether at a desk, in a car, or on a sofa. However, a growing body of research suggests that prolonged sitting is harmful to health, even for those who exercise regularly. A 2021 study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine found that sitting for more than eight hours a day without physical activity increases the risk of heart disease, diabetes, and early death by up to 60%.
But what if you have a desk job? Experts say small changes can make a big difference. Dr. Emily Carter, a public health researcher, recommends the "5-minute break rule": after every 30 minutes of sitting, stand up and move for at least 2 to 5 minutes. Simple activities like walking to get water, stretching, or climbing stairs can help restore blood flow and reduce muscle stiffness.
Another effective strategy is using a standing desk. A study from the University of Leicester followed 1,200 office workers for one year. Half of them used adjustable standing desks, while the other half remained seated. The results showed that those using standing desks reported 45% less back and neck pain. Moreover, their energy levels improved significantly by the afternoon.
Interestingly, even fidgeting — small movements like tapping your feet or shifting in your chair — can help. A 2019 study from the University of Missouri found that people who fidgeted while sitting had healthier blood flow in their legs compared to those who sat completely still.
The message is clear: our bodies are designed to move, not to remain fixed in one position for hours. As Dr. Carter puts it, "Every small movement counts. The worst sitting position is your next one — so keep changing it."
(1)、What does the 2021 study reveal about prolonged sitting?A、It is harmless for people who exercise daily. B、It increases the risk of several health problems. C、It only affects people with desk jobs. D、It improves blood flow in the legs.(2)、What is the "5-minute break rule" suggested by Dr. Carter?A、Take a 5-minute nap every 30 minutes. B、Move for 2-5 minutes after every 30 minutes of sitting. C、Stand for 5 minutes every hour. D、Exercise for 30 minutes after 5 hours of sitting.(3)、What benefit did standing desk users report in the University of Leicester study?A、Better eyesight. B、Lower risk of diabetes. C、Less back and neck pain. D、Faster walking speed.(4)、What does the author imply by saying "The worst sitting position is your next one"?A、People should find the perfect sitting posture. B、Staying in any position for too long is harmful. C、Sitting is better than standing. D、Only the first sitting position matters. -
12、It's said that making friends gets harder when you get older. People form their existing (现有的) friendships during childhood or at university. However, new research suggests that's not what happens. According to a recent survey, the age group that feels least confident in chatting to strangers is those aged 18 to 24. Similarly, it was found that 59% of Millennials (千禧一代) spend more time chatting to friends on social media than they do face to face in person.
The author and expert on friendship, Kate Leaver, said, "Young people are not confident when speaking to strangers not only because they're afraid of refusal, but also because they've really been socially conditioned not to do it. Previous generations have a much stronger sense of community in public and shared spaces. We don't have as much access (接触的机会) to that because the way we form our modern lives means we are less in touch with our communities. Shared public spaces like parks and libraries — places where people might get close to a stranger — are being shut down."
Laura, 27, who enjoys the company of her old friends, hates meeting new people. Most of her friends are from university days. "I'm pretty chatty and open when I get to know someone, but during that first meeting, I'm very shy. I get very anxious about what to talk about and worry that people do not understand my sense of humour."
But not all young people feel the same way. Hayley, always meets people in unusual ways and makes friends with them. "I became good friends with someone who I met on the plane," she said. "It just shows how you can really connect when you're offline."
If you're comfortable with your present friendship situation, that's great. But, if you do want to enlarge your social circle, here are some tips. Avoid unpleasant silences by searching for people with common interests — join a book club or a local sports team. If it is too stressful, there are some friendship apps that you can use. Or start a conversation with someone in a public place.
(1)、What can we learn from the recent survey?A、Building friendships in university is necessary. B、Teens spend less time with friends than before. C、Making friends gets harder on social media. D、Young people build relationships with difficulty.(2)、What does the underlined word "that" in paragraph 2 probably refer to?A、A public space. B、A stranger. C、The sense of community. D、The social condition.(3)、What problem does Laura have in socializing?A、She has no sense of humour. B、She fails to contact her old friends. C、She prefers to make new friends online. D、She is unwilling to get close to new people.(4)、What does the author suggest in the last paragraph?A、Learning some skills on apps. B、Choosing friends carefully. C、Joining groups with shared interests. D、Keeping strong ties with old friends. -
13、How would you like to spend six months living on an island and looking after the Great Barrier Reef? The working hours are flexible and accommodation is provided. Key duties include exploring the reef islands and reporting local resources. You'll need to make weekly reports by blogs, photo diaries and video updates. You'll also be asked to promote the islands through newspapers, magazines and TV interviews.
This calls for an island caretaker attracting applicants from all over the world. It was actually a very clever means to highlight the importance of the Great Barrier Reef and the need to protect it.
Located off the coast of North-east Australia, the Great Barrier Reef is the largest living thing on the planet. More than 25 million years old, the Great Barrier Reef is made up of living coral (珊瑚) growing on dead coral. It is host to many species of birds and sea creatures. But this unique and delicate place is now under threat from pollution and climate change.
Eventually, the job was offered to Ben Southall from the UK. Ben did a lot during his time as an island caretaker. In addition to blogging, taking photos and writing articles about the reef, he appeared on television to call for its protection. He also worked for the National Geographic Channel, before going on to write a book about his experiences. Ben later joked that the job should have been advertised not as the "best", but the "busiest job in the world"!
Whether it was a real job offer or an attractive event isn't really important. The most important thing was that people all over the world became aware of the beauty of the ocean and the balance of the environment. What's more, they came to understand what must be done to protect the reef. That way, it will remain a safe habitat for wildlife, as well as a dream destination for the millions of tourists who visit it each year.
(1)、What is paragraph 1?A、A weekly blog. B、A job advertisement. C、A personal website. D、A short story.(2)、What's the deep purpose of the call for a caretaker?A、To protect the Great Barrier Reef. B、To beautify the Great Barrier Reef. C、To provide an educational program. D、To attract more tourists to Australia.(3)、What problem was the Great Barrier Reef faced with?A、Lack of tourists. B、Natural disaster. C、Pollution and climate change. D、Disappearing of the islands.(4)、What is the text mainly about?A、Ways to protect the Great Barrier Reef. B、Threats the Great Barrier Reef is facing. C、A British man's experience as a caretaker. D、The best job in the world and its influence. -
