2、Many people experience culture shock when they travel to new countries and adjust to foreign cultures, which usually occurs in the first or two months. It is common and normal to have this experience.
Prepare ahead of time.
Preparation is key when learning how to manage culture shock. Doing some research on the new languages, cuisine, transportation and even customs before departure will help reduce uncomfortable feelings enormously. Your school's study abroad office, academic advisor, and even some professional study abroad agencies will help with any questions you may have.
One of the best ways to alleviate culture shock is to interact with locals and learn from them. When you approach locals, like a university professor, new classmate, or even a museum tour guide, you're bound to receive a more welcoming response and learn a lot about not only their experiences, but the cultural differences between you two as well.
Take time to check in on yourself.
As you go through this new experience, it will help you know yourself if you're doing okay or if you need a little extra support. It will also help you catch those feelings faster and help you continue to enjoy your study abroad experience.
Stay connected with those at home.
Stay in touch with your friends and family with international messaging apps, like WhatsApp, or send them postcards as you bounce around from city to city, which will help keep you grounded as you continue your study abroad adventure and help prepare you for your return.
Culture shock is common when you are about to set out an international adventure. You are bound to enjoy your time and manage the possibility of culture shock all at the same time.
A. Embrace the new culture.
B. Follow our advice and be confident.
C. Besides, rely on the resources available to you.
D. And the experience will make you that much stronger.
E. You can keep a journal to keep track of your thoughts and feelings.
F. Let's find how you can relieve the feelings associated with culture shock.
G. Let's take a closer look at some of these culture shock examples together.

3、Whether you are traveling to a different country for business or study, you must always be prepared to experience and overcome cultural differences and language barriers. Here are a couple of tips on how to help bridge the gap between cultures.
Every country in the world, old or new, has a rich and storied history. They celebrate their own holidays, cook national dishes, listen to their own styles of music and wear clothes appropriate for their culture. Take some time to learn the history, art and customs of the country you'll be visiting. Showing your knowledge of the local customs and history will make those around you realize you truly care about their culture.
Language are hard to master. You spent years in grade school learning all the grammar and intricacies (复杂) of English. Why not spend more time learning a whole new language — especially when so much of the world speak English already? Even if you can only recite a couple of key phrases, it shows that you're making the effort to bridge the cultural gap.
Unfortunately, no matter how much you research a country or how well you know the language, there will always be some culture shocks and confusion. Words, actions or gestures that are not offensive (冒犯的) to us can be very offensive to someone from another culture. When this occurs, it is important to stay patient. Working through these frustrations together will lead to a smarter and stronger bond between you and your friend from another culture.
When I learn a new language, or study the history of a culture I'm unfamiliar with, I think of it as exploring a new world. There are so many things that make each culture unique. You have to be open to trying and learning new things in order to fit in well in another country. Always try to think about how they see things from their cultural perspective.
All of this being said, there are so many similarities between people of all nations. We all laugh at the same physical comedy, groan when we have to clean up our pets' messes and cry when we lose a loved one. After all, we are all humans.
(1)、What are you supposed to do to show your efforts to fit in?A、Develop an optimistic attitude. B、Do research into the new culture. C、Publicize its unique cultures. D、Clear all the barriers in the way.(2)、What does the author think of culture shocks?A、Overwhelming. B、Abstract. C、Depressing. D、Unavoidable.(3)、How does the author encourage us to be in paragraph 5?A、Open-minded. B、Suspicious. C、Ambitious. D、Insightful.(4)、What is the most suitable title for the article?A、Participating in cultural communication. B、Stepping out of your comfort zone. C、Exposing yourself to different cultures. D、Bridging the Gap between Cultures. -
4、A 22-year-old young man from Northeastern China, is reported to have spent 2 million yuan on studying in New Zealand but failed to get any diploma (毕业证). He even could not take care of himself and his grandmother had to feed him.
To use a popular label, the man in the case is a so-called adult baby, because his deeds make him al-most the same as a baby. However, he burns money faster than any normal baby. He spent 2 million yuan in two years overseas, but could not finish even the preparatory course. We do not mean to judge his choice, but someone who lacks the basic ability to survive has little chance of success in any modern society.
In a later interview, his mother was in tears and said she regretted not having taught her son well. She also told the story about how she "educated" her son: by meeting all his demands. When he did not perform well in school, she simply spent money sending him overseas. She would buy whatever he wanted. That was bad for her and bad for him.
No one is born an adult baby. It is a lack of proper education that makes adult babies. The failure of the young man has much to do with his parents giving in to his every demand.
The young man might be an extreme case. However, there are many more families that fail to educate their children properly and simply consider "raising a child" as "buying everything" they want. That might in turn make more adult babies for this society, and it is time for them to change.
(1)、What can we learn about the young man?A、He is the only one child in his family. B、He is poor in study but good at spending money. C、His grandmother loves him more than anyone else. D、He did well in school before he went to New Zealand.(2)、Why did the young man's mother send him to study abroad?A、The young man's family was wealthy enough. B、She wanted to satisfy her son's need. C、The young man could achieve his dream there. D、She intended to offer her son better education.(3)、____________should be to blame for the young man's situation.A、His overseas university B、His aged grandmother C、The education system D、His mother's education manner(4)、What is the author's purpose in writing the text?A、To warn parents baby adults. B、To explain what is a baby adult. C、To share a story about an overseas student. D、To raise the problems with foreign education. -
5、For us, one of the many cultural shocks we experienced was during our time in Bolivia. We spent five months traveling around South America but Bolivia surprised us most. Tourism and the approach to service in Bolivia are, to some extent, underdeveloped, which is not necessarily bad. However, you might get the feeling that the locals don't like your presence. At times we didn't feel welcome at all.
Bolivians will stare at you, give angry looks, and often won't even say hi when you come to their stores and restaurants. After some conversations with locals, we were told that the negative attitude had nothing to do with us. Bolivians are just not used to foreigners and don't really know how to handle tourists. But we can't even blame them. After a long and hard time as a Spanish colony, people are still very suspicious of foreigners.
What we loved most and surprised us is how Bolivians keep their traditions alive, which is truly amazing. we often saw locals wearing their traditional clothes and marketing their self-made medicine. These and other efforts to preserve their customs deserve respect. You just can't see that in many countries in the world.
I loved their clothes so much that l borrowed a traditional Bolivian dress to try to overcome the "tourist vs local barrier" and show the locals on the island that we truly love their culture and appreciate it. The experience was absolutely wonderful. We walked to the sunset point and locals were smiling and waving at us, cheering and we felt like we had a "connecting moment".
Even though we had this cultural shock and despite the negative feelings at the beginning of our travels in Bolivia, we have to say that we will never forget how special Bolivia was to us.
(1)、How might newcomers feel about Bolivians?A、They are cold. B、They are gentle. C、They are clever. D、They are generous.(2)、What shaped Bolivians' attitude to foreigners?A、Foreigners' rude manners. B、The location of the country. C、The unpleasant history of the country. D、Local people's lack of knowledge.(3)、What's the author's favorite about Bolivians?A、They seldom blame foreigners. B、They are good at doing business. C、They have many self-made items. D、They preserve their traditions well.(4)、Which of the following best describes the author's trip to Bolivia?A、Comforted. B、Fruitless. C、Eye-opening. D、Embarrassed. -

The freezing cold winter really prevents me from going to Beibei District, Chongqing. You really can't imagine how cold a southern China city can be until you experience a winter there. However, while beneath three quilts (被子), I found it still first wet and then cold. Without the wetness, there will be no coldness, for which spicy (辛辣的) food has been popular since very long time ago.
The hotness and wetness is really beyond imagination. While you are out, with shade everywhere but useless to prevent the high temperature, what you have to put up with is wetness added to hotness. Among the famous spicy foods, hotpot is the most preferred by both natives and newcomers from other provinces as well as foreign countries, as can be seen from the fact that Chongqing is an international city.
As the home of beauties and bridges, it is also a charming city of mountains and rivers, of which I prefer Jialing River most with its green water running smoothly.
People there are very kind especially the old people enjoying a comfortable life either in the shade of trees swinging their fans or playing chess on a square. Living in Chongqing is not a bad choice.
A. The steaming hot summer prevents me from going there, too.
B. The winter in Chongqing is pretty cold, which is beyond my imagination.
C. All in all, what I had experienced there really left me a deep impression.
D. I still remember when I was in Southwest University, I had to keep warm with three quilts.
E. Beauties in Chongqing are quite charming as well as knowledgeable.
F. Although it has disadvantages, Chongqing has many advantages over other cities.
G. Ancestors in Chongqing were so intelligent that they knew spicy foods could make the weather easy and enjoyable to tolerate.

Summer in Europe is very nice for us to visit one of our favourite cities for a break. Below we have put together a short list of our favourite summer break locations (地方) that offer a great balance of culture, sunshine and fun.
Berlin, the second most populous city in the European Union, gets the third place on our list. It has three famous airports: Tegel International Airport, Tempelhof International Airport, and Schonefeld International Airport.
The capital of Germany is on this list not only because it is a fantastic place to go on holiday but also since it teaches a very important lesson to humanity (人,人性). The Berlin Wall, the better part of which still remains well kept for educational and amusement (娱乐) aims, reminds us of the extra costs paid by everyone. Today, the undamaged part of the Wall, known as the East Side Gallery, shows striking murals (壁画); if you are interested in this chapter (时期) of the city's history, there is also a Berlin Wall Memorial you would want to visit. The Potsdamer Platz, divided into two by the Wall, is a newly developed area that is famous for a large shopping center and movie theatre complexes (混合体), and adds a bit of modern colour to Berlin's historical value.
Much like the other places that made the list, Berlin is also a city of art. The city has over one hundred and fifty museums in all, and a few of the ones providing an extraordinary experience include the Art Center Berlin Friedrichstrabe, the Museum of Indian Art, and the Museum of East Asian Art. Appreciating Berlin's art is much like taking a university course in itself and it can only be truly appreciated in several trips.
(1)、Which of the following statements is NOT mentioned in this passage?A、Berlin is a city with a large population in Europe. B、Berlin has many parks and bridges. C、Berlin is a city with many museums. D、Berlin is the capital city of Germany.(2)、From the passage, visitors can enjoy ____.A、beautiful sights B、striking murals C、art museums D、all the above(3)、What is the main idea of the third paragraph?A、The reasons for Berlin to be chosen on the list. D、The significance (意义) of the Berlin Wall.(4)、If Peter is interested in German history, he should visit ____ .A、the Art Center Berlin Friedrichstrabe B、the Museum of Indian Art C、the Berlin Wall Memorial D、movie theatre complexes -
