Amazing Changes in Nature
Part 1: From Tadpole (蝌蚪) to Frog
You know the story of the tadpole. It was born in the water. It has a round head and a long tail. It swims and breathes with gills ( 鳃 ) , just like a fish. It cannot live on land.
But soon, amazing changes happen! The tadpole grows back legs, then front legs. Its long tail gets shorter and finally disappears. It also grows lungs ( 肺 ) to breathe air. After these changes, the tadpole becomes a frog. Now, it can jump on land and catch insects. This big change is called metamorphosis(蜕变发育) .
Part 2:A Similar Amazing Change
Another animal has a similar change. It is the caterpillar(毛毛虫) . A caterpillar lives on plants. It has many legs and eats leaves all day. It can only crawl slowly.
Then, it builds a small house around itself called a chrysalis( 蛹 ) . Inside the chrysalis, a wonderful change happens. The body of the caterpillar changes completely. After some time,a beautiful butterfly comes out! The butterfly has wings. It can fly from flower to flower and drink sweet nectar(花蜜) . This is also metamorphosis.
Nature is full of such wonderful changes!

To: All Young Students of China
From: National Safety Department
Subject: Your Most Important Mission ( 任 务 ) :SLEEP!
Dear Students,
You might be surprised to receive(收到) a letter from us. We usually work to keep the country safe from big danger. But do you know what else is very important for our country's future? Your health! A strong country needs healthy, smart and energetic young people. That's why your mission tonight is to... get a good night's sleep!
Think of sleep as your body's secret. While you are sleeping, amazing things happen:
Your Brain ( 大 脑) Gets Stronger: Your brain practices everything you learned during the day, moving it to long-term memory. This helps you get better grades!
Your Body Grows: Your body releases( 释 放) special hormones ( 激 素) that help you grow taller and repair your muscles ( 肌 肉) after sports.
You Feel Happier: Enough sleep helps you manage your emotions. You will feel more patient and cheerful the next day.
When you don't get enough sleep, it's like an uncharged(未充电的) phone. You can't work at your best. You might feel tired and grumpy (易怒的) and find it hard to concentrate( 集中) in class. This affects ( 影 响) your learning and your health.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to protect your sleep. Go to bed early, sleep for 9—10 hours, and make your body and mind strong. By doing this, you are not just helping yourself — you are helping to build a stronger, brighter future for China.
Thank you for your service to our nation's future!

6、Saving Red-Crowned Cranes (丹顶鹤)
Red-crowned cranes are beautiful birds, but they are in danger. Here are some important facts about them:
Where they live:
They live in wetlands— like lakes and marshes(沼泽) in China, Japan and Korea.
Why they are in danger:
People cut down trees in wetlands to build houses. Also, some people catch fish with nets that can hurt the cranes. Now, there are only about 2,000 red-crowned cranes left in the wild.
How we can help:
We can stop cutting down trees in wetlands. We can also tell people not to use harmful fishing nets. Many parks now have"crane protection areas (保护区)" to keep the birds safe.
