From the benefits to your heart to your overall happiness,walking is just plain good for you. It's a fantastic way to get to know a place by the power of your own two feet.

If you had to choose one word to describe Kevin,it might be "slow".He didn't learn his ABCs as fast as other kids.He never came first in the schoolyard races.However,his smile was bright and he showed great interest in everything.So when he discovered that Randy was putting together a boy's basketball team,Kevin immediately joined.

At practice,Kevin worked so hard that you'd have thought he was preparing for the NBA.And the whole team truly loved basketball.But just loving the game doesn't help you win.They lost every game that season by a very large margin(差距),except one...that night it snowed and the other team couldn't make it to the game.

At the end of the season,the boys unfortunately played against the first-place team.The game went pretty much as expected,and near the middle of the fourth quarter Kevin's team stood nearly 30 points behind.At that point,one of Kevin's teammates called time-out."Coach,this is our last game but Kevin has never made a basket.We should let him try," said the boy.With the game completely out of reach,the idea seemed reasonable.So every time Kevin's team had the ball,they would give it to Kevin.His first shot missed and he missed another shot again.This continued a few more times until the player from the other team grew wise.Instead of running off down the court,he threw the ball to Kevin who shot...and missed again.

Soon,all the players were circling Kevin,throwing the ball to him.The whole gymnasium thundered with the clapping,chanting,"Kevin!Kevin!" Finally,after amounts of tries,the ball went in.Kevin's arms shot high into the air and he shouted,"I won!I won!" The first-place team remained unbeaten,but on that evening,everyone left the game truly feeling like a winner.

When Tony took up running as a hobby,he was 42 years old.Now 42 years later he's a national champion and a world record holder.He never imagined at the age of 84 this is where he'd be,but then he doesn't meet many people in their 80s who are out training four times a week."I can see it's a bit unusual,yes.But it's been my life," he told the reporter.

The retired officer runs at a track near his home in Leeds.At an event in Italy last month,he set a world record in the 80m hurdles with a time of under 17 seconds.But he sees no reason to slow down and his ambition is still to be competing when he passes a hundred.

Tony's next birthday is next September.And the first thing he wants to do is become the world's fastest 85-year-old.

There are various reasons why people compose poetry.The distinctive characteristics of poetry often include economical use of words,(describe) and vivid language,integrated imagery,literary devices and(arrange) of words,lines,rhymes,and rhythm.Poets use many different forms of poetry to express(they).Now I'll introduce some simpler forms to you.

Nursery rhymes are(usual) the traditional poems or folk songs.The language of nursery rhymes is the point and has a storyline.Nursery rhymes have a strong rhythm,and often repeat the same words.Therefore,children enjoy them.They are easy(learn) and recite.Children learn about language by playing with the words in nursery rhymes.

The list poem contains a list of things,people,ideas,or descriptions that develop a particular theme.It has a flexible line length and repeated phrases give both a pattern and a rhythm to the poem.

The cinquain is made up of five lines.The poet can convey strong picture or a certain mood in just a few words.

Haiku is a Japanese form of poetry that(consist) of 17 syllables.It has a format of three lines,(contain) 5,7,and 5 syllables respectively.Haiku is easy to write and can give a clear picture and create a special feeling using very few words.

English speakers also enjoy poems from China.A lot of Tang poetry has been translated into English.

Rachel Carson was a science writer widely respected for her books about oceans.But she also devoted years to gathering scientific research that would awaken the public to the dangers of modern chemical pesticides.Her work,Silent Spring,became one of the most influential books of the 20th century.And it launched the modern environmental movement.

Born in Pennsylvania,she became a marine scientist working for the US government,primarily as a writer and editor.Her first three books,Under the Sea-Wind,The Sea Around Us,and The Edge of the Sea were physical explanation of life in and near the sea.They made Carson one of the best-known and respected science writers.But then she turned her time and talents to a new subject.

Carson had been concerned about the dangers of the pesticide DDT since the mid-1940s.At first DDT was a symbol of the progress of modern chemistry.It had saved countless lives by killing lice and mosquitoes that spread deadly diseases.But Carson doubted whether spreading large quantities of poison throughout the environment could be completely safe.She painstakingly gathered research to prove that the chemical industry was overconfident about the safety of chemicals that hadn't been tested.

Carson published her research as a book,Silent Spring,in 1962.It caused an uproar.Carson was immediately attacked by the chemical industry.Millions of citizens tuned in to watch a television program analyzing the issue.Carson's calm and reasoned arguments turned the audience in her favor.Finally,her work convinced the president to call for an investigation.Eventually 12 of the most toxic chemicals Carson wrote about in Silent Spring,including DDT,were banned or cancelled.She grew physically weak and endured a lot of pain.Yet she refused to stop working on the book.She died on April 14,1964,at the age of 56.Her writings helped move the nation toward a new understanding of how humankind depends on the interconnection of all forms of life on Earth.

A 16th century drawing by one of the key figures of the German Renaissance has been valued in excess of $10 million after it was initially purchased at a yard sale for just $30 in 2017.According to Agnews Gallery—the London auction house in possession of the artwork—Albrecht Dürer,who died in 1528,is regarded as both the greatest German artist of his time and as one of the most important artists and intellectuals of the European Renaissance.The drawing that has been rediscovered is titled "The Virgin and Child".As Dürer's career and legacy have been studied in depth since his death,it is extremely rare to find unknown works of his.

Boston-based art collector Clifford Schorer,who is a consultant to the gallery,added Thursday that he came across the rare artwork,thought to have been completed in 1503,by chance on the way to a party in Massachusetts in 2019.He had forgotten to bring a gift to the party,so he went to a bookstore,which sold collectable volumes.The bookseller told him his friend had a Dürer drawing and asked if he would take a look at it.Schorer agreed,but held out little hope.

The artwork had been purchased at a yard sale at the home of an architect who had been gifted the piece from his art dealer father,Schorer said."Generally speaking,it's an inverse(反向的) relationship between how dramatic the claim is and how much of a let down it is.For example if someone tells me they have a Leonardo da Vinci,I'm usually pretty confident I'm going to see some images that are unimpressive," Schorer said.
