1、阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A, B, C和D)中,选出最佳选项。
Music streaming platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music have completely changed how people listen to music nowadays. By paying very affordable prices, people can access music very easily. However, while these platforms may provide benefits for some artists, up-and-coming artists are being left behind because they only focus on big names and creating profits.
Because of COVID-19, musicians have not been able to tour or perform live in many countries, which contributes to a large part of their income. In a YouTube interview, up-and-coming Texas artist Mobey mentioned that "The majority of my income comes from playing live shows. Usually that means around 50%-70% of what we expect to make in a year". With these factors, small artists are finding it increasingly difficult to make it in the industry due to the lack of investment (投资) into new talent.
Small artists on Spotify and Apple Music can expect to make little to nothing. An artist on Spotify can expect to earn an average of $0.003 per stream or around $3 per 1, 000 streams for one of their songs. On Apple Music, artists can expect to make a little more with an average of $0.01 per stream, or around $10 with 1, 000 streams. Even if they could hit around 1,000 streams, they have to pay music distribution (分发) platforms needed for their music to be shown on the streaming platforms such as DistroKid, whose cheapest plan is $20.
A new artist would find it very difficult to promote their music outside of their social media accounts which may not even have a large amount of followers. They probably cannot get large amounts of streams on their music since it is not being promoted due to the lack of exposure (宣传) they have on social media.
With the takeover of music streaming platforms, many artists are finding it increasingly difficult to make a sustainable (可持续的) living from their love for music. A simple way these platforms can enable new artists to keep making music is to increase their payouts per stream for their music. Hopefully the music streaming industry will make similar changes to improve the situation of their artists.
(1)、What is the problem with music streaming platforms?A、They ignore small artists. B、They are not user-friendly. C、They are very difficult to manage. D、They limit the number of small artists' songs.(2)、What do artist Mobey's words center on?A、His lack of investment. B、His total income in a year. C、The main source of his income. D、The reason for his fewer live shows.(3)、What do the figures in paragraph 3 show?A、How a music streaming platform works. B、Small artists' hope for music streaming platforms. C、Small artists' dislike for music streaming platforms. D、Why small artists earn little on music streaming platforms.(4)、What is the best title for the text?A、Music streaming platforms: Do they really put profits first? B、Music streaming platforms: Are they a chance or challenge to artists? C、Music streaming platforms: Have they harmed the industry for artists? D、Music streaming platforms: Could they offer music lovers better services? -

Just being smart doesn't mean someone will be successful. And just because someone is less smart doesn't mean that person will fail. That's one take-home message from the work of people like Angela Duckworth.
She works at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Like many other researchers, Duckworth wondered what makes one person more successful than another. When digging deeper, Duckworth found that the people who performed best shared a quality (品质) independent of smarts. They had what she now calls grit (毅力). Duckworth developed a set of questions to test it.
In one study of people 25 and older, she found that as people age, they become more likely to stick with a project. She also found that grit increases with education. People who had finished college scored higher in the grit test than people who quit before graduation did. People who went to graduate school after college scored even higher.
She then did another study with college students. Duckworth wanted to see how smarts and grit influenced performance in school. So she compared scores on college-entrance exams, which test IQ, to school grades and someone's score in the grit test. Students with higher grades seem to have more grit. That's not surprising. Getting good grades takes both smarts and hard work.
But some people counter that this grit means success. Among those people is Marcus Credé, a teacher at Iowa State University in Ames. He recently showed the results of 88 studies on grit. Together, nearly 67,000 people took part in these studies. And grit did not predict success, Credé found.
However, he thinks grit is very similar to someone's ability to set goals, work toward them and think things through before acting. It's a basic personality quality, Credé notes—not something that can be changed.
"Study habits and skills, test anxiety and class attendance are far more strongly connected to school grades than grit," Credé says. "We can teach students how to study well. We can help them with their test anxiety," he adds. "I'm not sure we can do that with grit."
(1)、What can we know from the first two paragraphs?A、Grit decides how smart one might be. B、Grit is a quality dependent on smarts. C、Success has nothing to do with smarts. D、Smart people may not live up to their smarts.(2)、What might influence a person's grit according to Angela Duckworth's findings?A、Lifestyles. B、Family tradition. C、Education. D、Personality types.(3)、What does the underlined word "counter" in paragraph 5 probably mean?A、Reply. B、Question. C、Accept. D、Warn.(4)、In Credé's opinion, grit is a basic quality that ____.A、can hardly be taughtC. should be paid no attention to in teaching B、is strongly related to test anxietyD. can't influence students' school grade -
3、阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A, B, C和D)中,选出最佳选项。
I finally climbed into bed at 1:20 in the morning. My friends had helped me celebrate my 31st birthday in the basement apartment, where I lived.
Earlier in the day I had prepared for the unlikely event of a flood. We are about a third of a mile from the banks of the Ahr River. It had been raining buckets that week and the government had sent out a flood warning, though not for where I was. Still, I'd placed sandbags on the floor outside my garden door and put electronics on tables. "Silly bro!" My friends laughed at me for doing that, but I thought, why take a chance?
As I drifted off to sleep, I was awakened by the sound of rushing water, as if I were lying beside a waterfall. When I got off the bed, I was shocked that cold water was rising fast. In darkness, I grabbed my cellphone and turned on the flashlight. When I stepped out of the bedroom, I saw water shooting through the gaps of the door.
I began to panic. I knew I had to get out fast! In bare feet, I started to make my way to the only escape: the door that led upstairs to the main floor. Finally I made it to the door and tried several times to pull it open even just a little bit, but the rushing water shut it again. I looked around for anything I could use to keep it open. There in the corner was a coat rack (架子). I took it and, once again, opened the door, throwing the coat rack between the door and the frame (门框) to keep the door from shutting. Finally, I managed to make a gap just wide enough to squeeze (挤) through and make it into the hallway.
I leaped onto the stairs and ran outside. I stood there in the darkness, wet through. What was once a lovely street was now a waterscape, with floating ruins instead of people and cars. The river had drowned (淹没) the neighborhood!
(1)、What does the underlined sentence in paragraph 2 imply?A、Better safe than sorry. B、It never rains but it pours. C、A lost chance never returns. D、A friend in need is a friend indeed.(2)、What was the author doing when water flooded in?A、Celebrating his birthday. B、Sleeping in the basement. C、Placing sandbags by the door. D、Playing with electronic devices.(3)、Which of the following might be the most difficult for the author during the escape?A、Making his way to the door. B、Finding a coat rack. C、Keeping the door from shutting. D、Squeezing through the gap.(4)、How did the author feel when standing on the street?A、Sad and shocked. B、Annoyed and anxious. C、Surprised and disappointed. D、Puzzled and awkward. -

It was a cold winter Monday morning. Manu, an eight-year-old, was sleeping comfortably in his bedroom upstairs. Mondays are usually very difficult for him after a weekend break from his school.
"Manu, wake up!" shouted Manu's mother, Akhila. Manu pulled the blanket over himself and pretended to ignore his mother's repeated attempts to wake him up.
"Manu! Please wake up! It's already 7 o'clock and your school bus will be here by 8 o'clock." Manu continued sleeping. Finally, Akhila walked up to the bedroom. "Manu, wake up! It's time you at least learned to wake up on time and do your morning chores without so much effort from my side." said his mother.
Finally, Manu got out of bed and started getting ready for school lazily. The school bus was already honking (按喇叭) in front of his bouse while Manu was brushing his teeth. Akhila requested the driver to wait for a few minutes. She quickly helped Manu get ready and helped him get to the school bus.
"Thank God. Manu did not miss his bus today!" She sighed. Akhila is really concerned about her son. Manu will nor do anything on time, whether it is waking up in the morning or any of his daily tasks. It is getting very difficult for Akhila to get her son to be disciplined.
Manu was back from school at 4 o'clock. Akhila asked him to finish his homework first. Manu, as usual, ignored his mother and continued playing with his pet dog. Finally, with a lot of effort, the mother helped him complete his homework. Manu had his maths test the next day.
Akhila thought to herself, "I need to work out a plan to help him to be self-disciplined" Repeated advice and warnings had not changed him.
The next day, everything was usually expected and there was no effort from Akhila to wake up her son. The time was seven and Akhila had still made no effort to wake up Manu. The school bus honked and Akhila, unlike her usual self, asked the bus driver to leave.
注意:续写词数应为150左右。
Paragraph 1:
Manu finally woke up at around 9o'clock.

St Kilda is a tiny archipelage (群岛) of the North Atlantic Ocean. The islands are among the most spectacular, but the greatest fascination is that, for over a thousand years, people lived there and possessed a sense of community. Cut off from the mainland, the islanders had a distinct way of living their lives, mainly eating the seabirds that returned to breed on the rocks.
Isolation also had a big effect upon St Kildans' attitudes and ideas. The people saenticed themselves year in and year out, in a constant battle to secure a livelihood. In such harsh conditions, life was only possible because the whole community worked together.
In the 19th century St Kilda was subject to pressures from the outside world. Education, religion and tourism all: attempted to throw the St Kildans' way of life into doubt. In the early
20th century, the strength of the community became weakened as contact with the rest of Britain increased. When disease cut their numbers, and wind and sea made it difficult to get adequate food, the St Kildans were forced to turn to the mainland for assistance.
In 1930, the St Kildans finally agreed to abandon their homes. They settled on the Scottish mainland, not realizing it meant throwing themselves into the 20 century. As adults, they had to accept those values most Scots believe in. For instance, the islanders found difficult to base their existence upon money. 'They had never lived in a world where they bought goods and services from each other.
The islanders showed themselves indifferent to the jobs they were given on the mainland. The labours asked of them were unskilled compared with the spectacular skills they had once performed in order to kill seabirds. Moreover, killing birds had once provided the community with food to survive. On the mainland, however, the tasks they were asked to perform did not provide them immediately with what was needed to keep them fed and warm.
The history of the St Kildans after the evacuation (撤离) , of their inability and lack of resolution to fit into urban society, makes sad reading. When they were resettled on the mainland, the St Kildans were forced to live in a society whose values were unacceptable and incomprehensible to the majority of them. For many, the move was a tragedy.
(1)、According to Paragraph 3, the following factors lead to St Kildans seeking help from outside EXCEPTA、unbearable wind B、insufficient food supply C、contact with Britain D、worsening health(2)、After the St Kildans inhabited Scotland, theyA、soon learned how to buy goods and services from others B、had trouble adapting to the value of dominant society C、exhibited willingness to carry out their given jobs D、had the opportunity to shew their skills of killing seabirds(3)、Which of the following is NOT about how people used to live on St Kilda?A、The major source of food was found locally. B、It was essential for people to help each other. C、Very few people had visited mainland Scotland.
