I love holidays! There's nothing better than jetting off to a foreign destination to visit the attractions it has on offer. Of course, I'm not alone. Millions of people are doing the same, and why not? The world has an amazing variety of must-see sights, from breathtaking natural scenery to impressive old cities. But the problem is that too many of us are visiting them at the same time, putting pressure on these delicate and ancient places.
That's why a number of beauty spots and historic sites have been introducing charges or restrictions on the tourists who visit. There are many reasons for this: to reduce overcrowding, which can spoil the atmosphere of a place, to manage wear and tear on old buildings, to tidy up the mess that visitors leave behind, or-as some may suggest-creating tourist traps to make more money out of the visitors.
The famous Italian city of Venice with its picturesque canals has, for example, introduced an entry fee of up to€10 for short-stay tourists. Venetians have long complained that mass tourism is wearing out the city. Now, passengers arriving by cruise ship will have to pay a "landing tax" which Mayor Luigi Brugnaro says, "would generate much-needed income to keep the city clean."
Many cities in Europe already charge an occupancy tax on tourists who stay in hotels and guest houses. In the UK, Edinburgh is hoping to do the same, controversially making it the first city in the country to do so. This tax that is usually charged per person per night of accommodation raises money to help protect the environment, pay for infrastructure (基础建设), or promote tourism.
In Italy's capital city, Rome, new laws are being introduced to clamp down on bad tourist behavior, which some argue is spoiling the look and feel of the city. Rules include banning drinking water from fountains and attaching "love padlocks" to bridges.
As more of us can now afford to travel, global tourist destinations are going to get busier, so maybe new taxes and laws are going to be a necessary part of the sightseeing experience.
(1)、Why do many attractions introduce charges or restrictions on tourists?A、To relieve stress on the fine and old places. B、To adopt a hunger- marketing strategy. C、To pay for cruise ship and accommodation. D、To include a necessary part of sightseeing.(2)、Why does the author mention Edinburgh?A、To stress the importance of tourism. B、To give another example of tourist tax. C、To encourage people to pay tax. D、To recommend hotels and guest houses.(3)、Which word could best replace the underlined phrase "clamp down on" in paragraph 5?A、Spoil. B、Spot. C、Prohibit. D、Promote.(4)、What may be the author's opinion about the new taxes and laws?A、They will lead to more crowded sites. B、The effect will die down. C、They will encounter strong opposition. D、The trend will spread out. -

There are many places to see lovely giant pandas in China. But where is the best place for you to go for a special panda trip? What is the best time to go? Here are some recommendations.
If you just want to see giant pandas, we recommend you to go to Chengdu Panda Breeding and Research Base. It is the most easily accessible panda base. You can see pandas at different ages. This base is huge but usually crowded.
If you are looking for a deeper panda experience, you can join a panda volunteer program. Giant panda volunteer programs are available in three panda bases: Dujiangyan, Wolong, and Bifengxia. They take about 1 to 3 days or longer. Dujiangyan is the best place for a one-day program. If you want a less-crowded environment, consider Wolong and Bifengxia, though they require 2 or more days. Your work would include weighing and cleaning bamboo, making panda cakes, watching pandas being fed, and cleaning pandas' enclosures (围场). At the end of the program, you will receive a panda keeper certificate.
Giant pandas don't go into winter sleep. You can visit them in all four seasons. Spring and autumn are the best times to see pandas when they are most active and temperatures are most comfortable. If you visit between August and November, you will probably see lovely panda babies.
Giant pandas spend almost half their time sleeping. Grown-up giant pandas in captivity (圈养) usually eat twice a day: early in the morning and late in the afternoon. They usually sleep around noon, any time from around 10:00 a. m. to around 2:00 p. m. We recommend you to get to a panda base as early as possible, when it is less crowded and the pandas are at their most active.

Learning how to cook can be a fun process, especially food-making adventure with good friends at college.
For Huo Zhiyi, this year's Dragon Boat Festival was surely one to remember. Instead of having a holiday dinner at a restaurant, the 21-year-old junior student and her classmates from Shenyang Agricultural University cooked for themselves in a shared kitchen.
This new shared kitchen, which covers 340 square meters on the second floor of the university's First Dining Hall, including a 22-square-meter cooking area, opened early last month. Students can use cookware and appliances (electric equipment) such as pans, ovens, and freezers, and various stuffs, like cooking oil, salt, and sugar, for free-all provided by the university. All they have to prepare is the basic ingredients (食材), such as meat and fresh vegetables.
"The three-day holiday was too short for us to return to our hometowns, so we decided to spend the festival together on campus. We all felt bored of the dining halls and take-out food. The newly opened shared kitchen has given us a space to cook for ourselves." The shared kitchen has quickly gained popularity with students and it is hard to find an available stove, especially during meal times. "We had to book it a week in advance," Huo said. The six young students worked for nearly three hours in the kitchen to cook eight dishes. "It was not as easy as we thought," she said.
The time spent in cooking has helped them communicate and cooperate more. "Compared with unhealthy take-out food, most college students desire hometown-style dishes or their favorite specialties, but it's hard to find them in campus dining halls," said Yi Guangcheng, director of the First Dining Hall. "The shared kitchen can help make their wishes come true. Meanwhile, it provides an opportunity to develop friendship and enrich social life. Delicious food is always a good bridge of communication," he said.
In addition to providing more convenience for the students, the shared kitchen also focuses on education, according to Ge Pengyue, director of the university's food center. "It is a creative feature of the university in quality education. We hope students can learn the basic life skill of cooking before they step out into society."

D、To present an argument.(2)、What does a student need to prepare before cooking in the shared kitchen?A、Pans. B、Salt. C、Ovens. I knew healing my relationship with Dad was vital, but how to go about it was another story. At the time the gulf between us seemed insurmountable (无法逾越的). My feelings of being criticized and rejected by Dad were my deepest wound.
In my early years I was the apple of his eye, and he was a hero in my childhood. We played sports and games, and often went fishing together.
As adolescence approached, however, everything changed. It became clear that I was determined to forge my own path, one completely different from his expectation. In school I was having behavioral problems, being a class joker and breaking all the rules. And having my parents read my school report was a nightmare for me. Sometimes I was punished. Their disapproval made me feel even worse. Punishments only added to the hurt.
My dad had no idea how to deal with me. He became silent and distant, setting a wall and pretending that he didn't care. That was even more painful to me than my mother's voiced disapproval. I hated him for that, and pretended that I didn't want anything to do with him. We lived under the same roof, but we were a thousand miles away from each other.
I continued to have trouble with school until the time I chose to drop out and pursue my interests in music. I became totally focused on my spiritual growth, which sent shivers (寒颤) through my father's mind. There were many hard feelings between us, feelings that hardened as time went by.
For much of my twenties, I went about my life without much of a relationship with my dad. We had stopped trying to change each other, but the walls remained, thick and cold between us.
Things all began changing four years after mom told me it was time to deal with Dad. Hesitant for a long time, I finally took her advice and wrote my father a letter.

After about a century of research, scientists in Switzerland have finally solved the mystery of the holes in Swiss cheese. Despite what you may have been told aschild, the holes are not caused by mice nibbling away inside cheese wheels.(expert) from Agroscope, a state center for(agriculture) research, said the phenomenon was caused by tiny bits of hay (干草) present in the milk during the cheese-making process and not bacteria as(previous) thought. They found that the mysterious holes became smaller or disappeared when milk(use) for cheese-making was extracted using modern methods. "It's the disappearance of the traditional bucket used during milking that played a significant rolethis transformation," said Agroscope spokesman Regis Nyffeler,(add) that bits of hay fell into the milk and then eventually caused the holes. According to Agroscope scientists, Swiss cheeses had fewer holes over the past 10 to 15 years as open buckets(replace) by sealed milking machines, removed tiny hay particles from the milk. This discovery not only solves a long-standing mysteryhighlights the interesting intersection (交叉) of tradition and technology in food production.
