3、 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
Turning around corners, weaving through traffic, every second matters. It is neither a street race nor a 007 chase, but the risky journey of a sushi (寿司) roll.
The streets of China are filled with delivery drivers racing noodles, sandwiches and soups across cities. While the everyday consumer may find these services convenient, most do not realize the true cost of their delivery. How much is that late-night snack really worth?
Strict time limits are the main concern for delivery drivers. The Chinese delivery app Meituan decreased the maximum time allowance from 50 minutes to 30 or even 20. Time literally means money: Surpassing the limit can result in fines, which are paid to the firm rather than to the consumers. Yet, beyond fines, there is often a greater cost. According to Pandaily News, one delivery worker is injured or killed in accidents every 2.5 days in Shanghai and, sadly, companies seldom provide insurance claims when their time limits lead to these consequences. Drivers are pushed to break traffic rules and risk their lives so your sushi is not a minute late.
Furthermore, low wages and extensive working hours exacerbate these issues. Some companies in China take advantage of the economic inequalities between China's large cities and less developed interior to offer extremely low pay to migrant delivery drivers while demanding long hours. Yet these long hours and low pay are common throughout the global delivery industry. In the United States, advertised earnings of $22 per hour are largely exaggerated while workers complain that food delivery apps rarely give them all their tips.
What is the solution? First, consumers should recognize what is behind their impossibly cheap and fast delivery: exploitation. We should expect more from the delivery app companies and less from their drivers. That is, we should pay more and wait longer while only ordering from companies who offer their drivers fair wages, insurance and a safe working environment. In the end, your sushi is just not worth it.
(1)、Who will be paid the fines for a delayed delivery?A、The delivery firm. B、The delivery worker. C、The sushi restaurant. D、The ordinary consumer.(2)、What does the underlined word "exacerbate" in paragraph 4 mean?A、Integrate. B、Comprise. C、Worsen. D、Alleviate.(3)、Why does the author mention the "earnings of $22 per hour" in the US?A、To indicate that delivery drivers shouldn't expect much. B、To emphasize that delivery companies should provide insurance. C、To prove that the pay and working environment are better in the US. D、To show that low pay and overwork are common issues in the industry.(4)、Which of the following is the best title for the text?A、The Harm of Delivery Services B、The True Cost of Convenient Deliveries C、The Overrated Popularity of Sushi D、The Benefits and Problems of Delivery Apps -
4、 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
Leadership is a quality that is hard to define. Everyone can think of inspiring leaders from history but managers who think they can base their style on Nelson Mandela or Elizabeth I are suffering from misunderstandings of greatness.
The biggest mistake is to consider leadership entirely equal to charisma(魅力). Billy McFarland was just 25 when he set up the Fyre festival which promised attendees a luxury experience on a deserted island in the Bahamas. As shown by the Netflix documentary, "Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened", Mr McFarland was an unusual salesman. He convinced investors that he was a visionary businessman and persuaded talented young people to work for him.
But he lacked the skills to put his vision into practice. Festival guests arrived to find their food consisted of cheese sandwiches, rather than first-class cuisine. They were housed not in luxury villas, but in tents left over from a hurricane-relief program. The whole event ended with Mr McFarland being sentenced to six years in prison.
His example could have been a case study for the book by Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic— "Why Do So Many Incompetent Men Become Leaders?(and how to fix it)". As an organisational psychologist, he points out that people tend to assume that confident individuals are competent, when there is no actual relationship between the two qualities. Those confident people are promoted and then their abilities turn out to be over-estimated.
Mr Chamorro-Premuzic argues that competence is more important than charisma or confidence. Managers need enough presence to persuade their teams to follow the business plan, but they should think in terms of coaching rather than inspiration. Employees are more likely to be engaged with their work if they get frequent feedback from their bosses, and if they are involved in setting their own goals. Another key factor in leadership is the ability to set a good example. Subordinates(下属)notice what behaviour gets rewarded and which standards are set by the person at the top.
(1)、What can we infer from paragraph 1?A、Leadership is a quality impossible to evaluate. B、Nelson Mandela and Elizabeth I are both overrated. C、You can't become leaders by simply imitating others. D、Charismatic people are more likely to be great leaders.(2)、According to the text, what kind of a leader was Billy McFarland?A、Unconfident. B、Visionary. C、Incomparable. D、Incompetent.(3)、What does Mr Chamorro-Premuzic reveal in his book?A、The assumption that confidence equals competence. B、The phenomenon that competent people can't lead well. C、The connection between competence and career success. D、The reason why confident people are popular in workplaces.(4)、What does Mr Chamorro-Premuzic suggest for good leadership?A、Respecting the privacy of employees. B、Giving employees frequent feedback. C、Inspiring employees with big visions. D、Following the examples of good employees. -
5、 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
Coco Gauff used to visit the Grand Slam tournament (大满贯锦标赛) as a kid to see her idols Serena and Venus Williams. Now she is a champion there herself. On Sept 9, the 19-year-old from the US won her first major women's singles title at the 2023 US Open (美国网球公开赛).
After an average start, Gauff surged to a 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory over her bigger, stronger opponent, Aryna Sabalenka, from Belarus, who became the new world No.1 the day after the tournament ended.
Unlike the Williams sisters, who have obvious force and power, Gauff is small and slim. But she moves fast on the tennis court. Forbes magazine said, "She is the quickest and perhaps already the best returner of impossible shots in tennis history."
Even though Sabalenka is a very powerful hitter, it felt like she had to finish each point four or five times, as Gauff's defense was so perfect, noted The Telegraph. This ended up frustrating Sabalenka and caused her to make 46 unforced errors.
Gauff thus became the first American teenager to win the US Open since Serena Williams, then 17, in
1999. When asked about "taking the torch" from the 23-time Grand Slam winner and the similarity between their tennis careers, Gauff told ESPN, "Serena is Serena. She's the greatest of all time... I'd hope to do half of what she did. But I'm not going to compare myself to her. She's some one that I look up to."
Now, Gauff's big win has left tennis fans wondering: When's her next Grand Slam? That's no easy task. Two of the past four US Open women's champions were teenagers at the time, Canada's Bianca Andreescu in 2019 and the UK's Emma Raducanu in 2021, and neither has come close to repeating their success yet. But one thing about Gauff is certain — that at just 19 years old, the sky's the limit.
(1)、What do we know about Gauff's performance in the game at the 2023 US Open?A、She made 46 unforced errors. B、She was leading from the start. C、She defeated a stronger opponent. D、She became world No.1 afterwards.(2)、According to the text, what are Gauff's advantages?A、Her force and power. B、Her speed and defense. C、Her figure and height. D、Her services and attacks.(3)、Who is "the 23-time Grand Slam winner" mentioned in paragraph 5?A、Aryna Sabalenka. B、Bianca Andreescu. C、Coco Gauff. D、Serena Williams.(4)、What does the underlined sentence "the sky's the limit" imply in the last paragraph?A、It is hard for Gauff to push back her limits. B、Gauff will consider switching to other sports. C、Gauff has potential for greater future success. D、Teenage sportsmen often fail to continue their success. -

Rising to reach for the book on the desk in the living room, Gudrun fell over her little brother, who had crawled out from underneath her chair. "Arnar! Why do you always have to be right under me?"
The five-year-old giggled. "I was hiding," he said, "and you found me."
"I'm not playing," Gudrun scolded. "I'm knitting. And it's time for you to go to bed." Her parents had gone out for the evening, leaving Gudrun in charge.
"Let me hide once more,"Arnar begged. "Then I'll go to sleep, I promise."
Gudrun couldn't help smiling. "Oh, all right." She turned back to her knitting. "I'll look for you when I've finished this row."
"Here's a clue,"Arnar called as he skipped away. "Look for me where I always am."
But Gudrun was already absorbed in her work.
Gudrun wasn't sure what had awakened her in the middle of the night. Was it the urgency in Mamma's voice or the frightening and low rumble that rolled through her room? Gudrun found herself suddenly wide awake, drawn to the window by a strange and unfamiliar brilliance outside. "An eruption," Mamma said as she began to gather Gudrun's clothes. "Maybe Helga fell, maybe a new volcano. We must leave the island quickly."
"Tonight? How?" Gudrun asked, her heart pounding. "Where will we go?"
"We're lucky. The fishing boats will take us to the mainland." Mamma turned to face Gudrun."Pabbi has already gone to the harbor. I'm going to help Margret." Their elderly. neighbor lived alone. Mamma proceeded, "can you dress Arnar and take him to the harbor by yourself?"
"Of course," she declared. Everyone would help tonight. Icelanders had always worked together to survive in a land ruled by volcanoes, glaciers, and ocean.
Gudrun dressed and ran to her brother's room."Arnar!"she cried, "Wake up!" Hearing no response, Gudru n hurried to the bed and pulled back her brother's thick cover.

20、 第二节读后续写(满分25分)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My family moved from Toowoomba, Canada to London in 1950. My mother was in great pain from the 1950s epidemic of polio (小儿麻痹症). She wished to visit specialists in London. The day before we boarded the ship, Father bade a tender farewell to his five-year-old " friend" at the dock(码头), an Australian cattle dog, Spider, who was loved by us all. Father' s friend Sandy was to be his guardian while we were overseas.
Six weeks later, a letter arrived from Sandy, giving my father the news that Spider had run away just two weeks after we had sailed. I will always remember my father' s face crumbling and his eyes glistening as he read the letter. We tried to comfort him, knowing in our hearts how useless this was. Sandy has advertised constantly on ABC radio and other local newspapers. Despite some " sightings" in the dock at first, the dog was never found later. It seems Spider decided to search for us elsewhere.
We sailed back two years later and re-established our home in Toowoomba. My father immediately began his own searching for Spider. Several months passed but there was still no news concerning Spider. The dog was gone, possibly shot or dead from starvation or exhaustion.
One cold morning eight months after our return, my father had a call from an old lady who said she was putting food out " for a very old dog" . In the night the food disappeared. This had been going on for a few weeks. That was enough for my father to interrupt my homework and we set off immediately. When we arrived at the old lady' s house, she invited us into an old bush. Sadly, she then told us that the " dingo dog" hadn' t been around for a few days. My father had a strange look in his eye. He put two fingers to his lips and did his special whistle(口哨) for Spider.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Paragraph 1: Suddenly there was a bark in the bush.
Paragraph 2: From then on, Spider and my father would hang out at the dock.
