NEMO Science Museum in Amsterdam

NEMO Science Museum in Amsterdam is a stimulating scene. Children of different ages have fun with huge soap bubbles and experiments in the chemistry lab. Grown-ups, with or without children of their own, have fun at NEMO too. It's hard to hold back when you are presented with all the devices and experiments.

Facilities in NEMO

There are several cafés and if you prefer to bring your own food, snacking on it is allowed in assigned places. On a sunny day you should picnic out on the large roof.

Accessibility

NEMO is easily accessible by public transport. The museum's eye-catching copper-green building is easy to spot from Amsterdam Central Station.

●By bus: Take Bus 22 and get off at Kadijksplein.

●On foot: Weather conditions allowing, a 15-minute walk to NEMO from the Central Station is a nice option. It's worth the trip just to view the spectacular architecture and the surrounding piers (码头) and ships.

●By car: NEMO is accessible by car. However, parking in the centre of Amsterdam is expensive. NEMO does not have any parking facilities of its own.

Li Daiyu and her cousin Liu Qian went to Canada to visit their cousins in Halifax on the Atlantic coast. Before starting out, they spent a couple of days in Vancouver, seeing the (sight). On the morning of departure, the two girls arose early (take) the train to Lake Louise, (pass) through the Canadian Rockies. They spent the night, and then took coach bound north through the Canadian Rockies to Jasper. From Jasper, they caught the train towards Toronto. One of the train's first stops (be) in Edmonton. From Edmonton, the train headed southeast across the great Canadian Prairie. They went through two wheat-growing provinces, they saw a bunch of farms that covered a very large area. After another day on the train, (eventual) they were back in the city of Winnipeg. From there, they travelled through the night, and woke up in Ontario.

The train  (thunder) on, through the rolling hills. Night came again, and the train turned south towards Toronto. When they woke up the next morning, they could see the wide stretch of Lake Huron. It was not until 9:30 a. m  they finally reached the capital of Ontario, Toronto. All in all,  (they) trip from Vancouver to Toronto had taken a duration of four days.

I like it because although it is hard work, every day is different! It all depends on what is wrong with the animals that come in.

At my clinic (诊所), I work long days on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and short days on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Sunday is my day off so I can spend some time with my family.

My clerk opens the door, turns on some music, and makes everyone a cup of tea or coffee. My assistant cleans and feeds the animals. The phones start to ring and people make appointments. This is a very busy time of day!

At 9 am, pet owners start to arrive with their sick pets. Appointments take up the whole morning.I don't examine (检查) any new sick animals. I use these two hours to have lunch and do all my paperwork.

At 2 pm, I start to see sick animals again. At 5 pm, three students from a local school l who love animals arrive to help out.I am always happy to see their smiling faces!

From 5 pm to 7pm, I continue to see sick animals. Then, at 7 pm, we close our doors and the clean-up begins! We tidy the clinic, and feed and clean the animals. Of course, we also stroke (轻抚) them and give them hugs! Then, we turn off the lights and go home.I'm very happy being a vet, though unexpected things sometimes happen!

Li Jianguo, a 49-year-old teacher at the Tianjin Vocational Institute, is set to be named as one of the "2022 most beautiful teachers" — an annual public award sponsored by the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the Ministry of Education.

Li has stood out by taking the lead in the training of students in vocational skills, gaining a number of honors including being named a national role model teacher. He has mentored seven national-level technique experts and a team of 14 technique "masters". One of his students, Guo Jinpeng, who graduated from the institute in 2007, became a college teacher at the Chengdu Auto Vocational and Technical School and was named a national role model teacher in 2019.

Li's nomination as one of the "most beautiful teachers" reflects that China is focusing on the importance of vocational education and aims to foster more leading personnel with the spirit of craftsmanship in the manufacturing industry.

At an international vocational and technical education conference in Tianjin last month, Li noted that there is no difference between vocational education and ordinary education, and "vocational education is not "secondary" nor should it ever be treated as less than ordinary education". "Vocational education has the mission of fostering a quality workforce and technical experts for the country. The hardworking spirit is the key to building any ordinary people into leading personnel," he said.

Li joined the institute in 1993 and later founded a machinery engineering practice center, providing free training to 7,500 people a week. In 2015, he led a team of teachers to work for 40 days to renovate 124 machine tools in the center. Li has devoted himself to building the country's first additive manufacturing technique and application center at the institute to satisfy the thirst for the country's human resources in 3D printing.
