Four Habits to Help You Succeed

Nobody would like to experience failure. We all want to succeed. For those who have tried and failed, success seems difficult to understand.

    ● Know your values.

Finding your values is in line with creating motivation.  Pick a handful of things and write them down. Remind yourself of your values every day and reflect on whether you are honoring those values through your work.

    ● Pick a goal and focus on it.

Choose one goal to start something large enough that will give you a sense of achievement, while adjusting well to your values. If you want to achieve your goal, focus is the key here.  If you perform many tasks at a time, you might never finish your projects because they will take far too long.

    ● Set a time for success.

Set a date for success. Know when you hope to realize your goal.  By setting a time limit, you are making the process realistic.

Failure can't be avoided when you take risks. By its very definition, the desire to succeed means you are risking failure. Many people tend to give up far too early. Don't fall into this trap! Use failure. Treat it as a good thing, and go on.

    A. Make the right decision.

    B. The more focused you are on one goal, the higher chance you have of success.

Here are four habits to help you set goals and realize them.

    D. Keep it realistic, while not giving yourself too much time.

    E. Don't give up because of failure.

    F. Sit and reflect on what you value most.

    G. Push yourself to be courageous, and take that next step.

To provide visitors with a special experience, theme parks are putting more money into Virtual Reality (VR) technology. In fact, the lifestyle team of the website, The Week, attended the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) Expo in Orlando. The purpose was to do a study on the implementation (实施) of VR technology on roller coasters. The team studied 23 roller coaster manufacturers (制造商) in Europe and found that eight of those manufacturers had implemented VR technology into at least one of their roller coasters. Based on their study, it appears that VR technology is already an important and growing factor (因素) in the future development of theme parks.

The theme park industry at first saw VR technology as a cost-saving way to put new life into attractions. In 2015, companies such as Six Flags began adding VR technology to their roller coasters. However, it soon became clear that there were many difficulties with implementing (实施) VR technology on the rides. Because of the time it took to provide riders with VR headsets (耳机), wait times and lines began to increase. Moreover, companies had to train employees (员工) how to set up the VR systems and make sure that all headsets were clean. This proved not to be cost-saving, so new systems had to be put into place.

Busch Gardens in Williamsburg. Virginia, set out to solve these problems by developing a two-part headset for the ride Battle for Eire. The park worked with Falcon's Creative Group to develop this new technology, which allowed guests to be fitted with a headpiece while waiting in line. This shortened wait times and provided a cleaner environment. Falcon's Creative Group and Busch Gardens used creative thinking to improve an attraction that was built around VR.

According to TEA/AECOM Global Attractions Attendance Report, 2018 saw more than 252 million people visit the top 25 theme parks in the world. To keep these numbers, it is important that these and other theme-park companies continue to come up with new ideas to create and introduce great attractions—especially those that make use of new VR technology.

    (1)、What did The Week find?
A、Roller coasters were getting less popular than before. B、Half of the studied theme parks have used VR technology. C、VR technology may greatly influence the future theme parks. D、Theme parks have not realized the importance of VR technology.

A、A lot of money was saved. B、Many unexpected problems appeared. C、The number of visitors hugely increased. D、Visitors thought highly of the improvement.
    (3)、What did Busch Gardens do?
A、It employed more workers. B、It creatively developed a headset. C、It chose to use its traditional technology again. D、It worked with other companies to build new theme parks.
(4)、What did the author advise theme parks to do?
A、To give up traditional technology. B、To work with other theme parks. C、To develop creative attractions. D、To build new theme parks.

More and more birds are flying to settle at Qinghai Lake, one of the highest inland lakes in China, thanks to the protection efforts of local governments. Covering an area of over 4,000 square kilometers, Qinghai Lake is also the country's biggest salt lake.

Located in Qinghai Province of Northwest China, the lake is famous for the two islands at its northwest point—Cormorant Island and Egg Island. The two islands have plenty of floating grass and various fish, offering rich food sources to birds. The islands have become a paradise for different kinds of groups of birds and have been called "Bird Islands".

Each March and April, when ice and snow covering the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (高原) start to melt, over 20 kinds of birds fly to the Bird Islands to lay eggs. During the months, flocks of birds cover the whole sky over the islands and bird eggs can be found everywhere. Visitors can hear the singing of birds from miles away. These have become a world-famous symbol of the lake.

To protect this paradise for birds and support calls for ecological protection, China set up the Qinghai Lake National Natural Reserve at the end of 1997. Meanwhile, the State has pointed out that the Bird Islands and Spring Bay of Qinghai Lake were central reserves.

Inspectors and conservators often patrol (巡逻) the lake, enriching local residents' knowledge of related laws and spreading knowledge about animal protection to visitors. They are making great efforts to call on people to love and protect the birds. At the same time, they have built special fences around the island area to prevent wolves, foxes and other carnivores, as well as illegal hunters from breaking up the birds' building nests, laying eggs and breeding (繁殖). As a result, more and more birds are coming to the islands for sheltering and breeding.

(1)、Why are more and more birds coming to the biggest salt lake in Northwest China?
A、Because it is getting warmer and warmer. B、Because it is being reformed. C、Because the environment is getting more suitable to them to live in. D、Because the people there are becoming richer and richer.

This summer my mom and I did something meaningful and interesting.

Because of the stresses of high school, I felt depressed from time to time. What was worse, I began to eat many junk foods. As a result, I had gained a lot of weight.

My mom decided to take me to work out and she cooked delicious and healthy snacks for me. However, I broke my word and bought high-calorie snacks. My mom found my snack wrappers in the garbage. She got really angry and told me something I will remember forever. She said, "My dear, I can forget the fact that you cheated, but you shouldn't. Remember it's not all about losing weight but about your whole life. If you want to achieve something, take it seriously, and persist (坚持) no matter what happens."

Since then, we have been out running each morning, and we do some yoga in the evening. We sing and laugh while running along the empty roads. Day by day, I am feeling better. Exercise is helping to strengthen my body and refresh my spirits. At the same time, my mom and I cook different dishes together. Isn't it amazing that I'm making such tasty-looking foods myself? Cooking brings great joy to me.
