Kung Pao Chichen is a traditional Chinese dish and famous for its richness and variety and regarded by many as the most popular Chinese dish internationally. You can find it in almost any Chinese restaurant overseas. Kung Pao Chichen is a dish from Sichuan cuisine, it originated from Lu cuisine in Shandong Province. The dish is believed to be the creation of Ding Baozhen, official during the Qing Dynasty. Ding （serve）as a leader in Shandong Province and later in Sichuan Province. He favoured peanuts and spicy food, so he improved the Shandong dish "Jiang Bao Chichen" by （add）pepper to it. After he came to Sichuan, the dish was popularised.

As English learners, you often feel anxious when you have to speak English in front of others.  Here are some solutions to help you build confidence in speaking English. 

Adopt a practice and repetition routine（常规）. When something becomes natural to you, you begin to feel confident of doing it And the only way you can arrive at this "natural" way of doing things is through practice and repetition. So write down what you may talk about and then practise saying it aloud and repeatedly before an English meeting.

Recently, the researchers for underwater exploration introduced a new robot, which is soft and has no harm to sea life when it works. However, they are not so welcome in the robot market because they are quite slow and have a hard time operating through the water. But that may change soon thanks to a self-driven soft robot created by researchers at the University of California. 

For their design, the researchers got inspiration from one of nature's fastest swimmers—squids（乌贼）. They can use their strong muscles to draw in water and promptly spread it out. By doing this, they are able to move forward at a fast speed.

The recently-developed robot, which looks like a paper lantern, was basically built using soft materials. An nozzle（喷嘴）fixed on one side helps draw in and release water each time the robot shrinks, which enables it to swim forward, similar to a squid. A plate holds a waterproof part that can house a camera to record data, which is of great value to further development of the robot. It also has its own power source, allowing it to float for a long time. 

"Importantly, we recreated all the key features that squids use for high-speed swimming. This is the first robot that can achieve the result by changing its body shape, which improves swimming efficiency (效率)." said Professor Michael T.

Though the squid robot has not been tested in open waters it successfully swam around coral and fish in a large tank. What's more, the robot had an impressive speed of 18 to 32 centimeters per second, or about half a mile per hour. Though nowhere close to real squids, it is faster than most other soft robots.

The way you use your cellphones around your family can have an effect on your relationships. Cellphones can make you feel more connected, but they can also distract（使分心）you and your family from connecting with each other in person. While some people need to check their phones for work or emergency（紧急情况）purposes, it's important to make meaningful connections through face-to-face communication.

Some people have trouble putting away their cellphones. They might feel they can't control how often they pick up their phones or how long they use them. They might feel the need to often check phones without a real reason or feel upset if they don't have an opportunity to use their phones. Using cellphones for work purposes during family time can increase worries and unhappiness among family members. While using their cellphones, parents talk to their kids less, reply more slowly, and overreact to being interrupted. And ignoring their partner while on the phone is linked to lower relationship satisfaction among couples.

Once you've given some thought to your own cellphone use, think about the rules you want your family to follow when you're together. To get your family on the same page, call a family meeting. Review each person's current cellphone use and areas where you think some changes might help. It's not just about simply cutting cellphone use down. Instead, consider what you're using your phone for and what activities you want to carry out.

For example, are you or your children using phones to stay connected, learn something new, do school work, or do something else? If you have kids, ask their opinions on your own phone use. You might be surprised by what they have to share. Use good communication skills by practicing active listening and showing curiosity about what each family member has to say. 

Less phone use also usually means less screen time, which enables kids to spend more time outdoors and be more physically active. When teens spend more time actively with their parents, they tend to set higher educational goals. 

When you get older your parents let you stay up later. But that doesn't make it a good idea. Tired people tend to be unhappy ones, and their schoolwork suffers, says a recent study by the US National Sleep Foundation.

"If you don't get enough sleep at night, you tend to sleep in school. If you're asleep, you don't learn anything," says Mary Carskadon, an American sleep researcher.

Sleep is important because it gives our bodies time to recover from the stress of living. Studies show that adults who sleep less than six hours a night tend to have more heart problems. They die sooner than adults who sleep seven to eight hours a night. 

How much sleep do you need? That depends on how old you are. Babies spend most of the day sleeping. By the time they`re 10 years old, they need an average（平均）of 10 hours a night. As they get older, they tend to sleep less. And the Sleep Foundation says that teenagers need 8.5 to nine hours. But in experiments where young teens are allowed to sleep as long as they want, they tend to choose to sleep an average of 10 hours. 

However, it does seem difficult for kids to get the sleep they need, given the demands（要求）made on them by education. Some schools start as early as 7 am. Some schools have late classes or self-study sessions（时段）that end as late as 10 pm. 

You have to study, but here are some tips that should help you feel less tired. 

Watch less television. Go to bed just 30 minutes earlier each school night, and you'll gain two hours and a half of sleep a week.

Cutting out caffeine（咖啡因）also helps. Soda, tea and coffee help you stay wake, but they can make it harder to fall asleep. 

Before you go to bed, turn off any electrical devices（电子设备）as these can make it more difficult to get to sleep. 

So, switch off the TV, the computer and the lights. Oh, yes, and sweet dreams!

I am a proud mother of three children, my last little one being delivered in the middle of this pandemic. She was born in August and her name is Aida. 

Shortly after having Aida, my mother­in­law Ann showed me something she learned from her friend's mother in an art class she attended weekly. She had showed me how to knit(编织) a scarf. She showed me stitches(针) and gave me her half done project. 

I spent a lot of time breastfeeding my sweet little girl, so I had some extra time to do something with my hands throughout the day. I enjoyed making the scarf so I purchased tons of yarn(线) since it was winter. I wanted to make scarves for my three children as Christmas gifts. 

There was a new family that moved in down the street. The only daughter of the family was Jane, a shy girl, aged 14, the same age of my oldest son David. It seemed that she came from a financially disadvantaged family, for she always wore old clothes. Worse still, in such cold days, she had no more clothes to wear and trembled with cold. 

Due to the pandemic, society was thrown into crisis mode. Schools were closed, food supplies and deliveries were suspended and children were stuck at home. In such discouraging times, however, they became good companions, talking and playing at home or around the houses. 

It was dreadfully cold this winter. Every time David came back from outside, with red face, he always cried, "Mum, it is freezing outside！" Then, he came over to see whether I finished the scarf. I could tell how impatient he was to wear my scarf sooner! I had to speed the project to satisfy his expectation. But David comforted me saying he could wait a few days. What a kind and considerate boy he was! Then my great art project finally was accomplished on the morning ahead of Christmas.

I remember, when I was growing up, that my mom would tell me stories about the kind acts my dad had done. One day, my dad met a close, long time friend of his in the downtown area. They talked for a while and his friend 1  that he didn't have money for 2  home. My dad gave him the 3  money he had, which was for his own train, so he just 4  home.

Tips for Green Travel with Kids

Travelling doesn't mean letting go of all the eco­friendly choices we work so hard to achieve in our daily life. Here are a few tips for green travel with kids. 

Booking non­stop flights whenever possible will reduce carbon emissions(碳排放). If the closest local airport doesn't have non­stop flights to a certain place, check in with other local airports to see if non­stop flights are available. 

Whether you're flying or driving, it's easy when travelling to pull into fast food restaurants for snacks.  My kids love to help plan snacks. I let them create their own snacks for the trip at home. 

 At the airport, keep your reusable bottles empty until you have passed through the security(安检). Fill them up on the other side of the security checkpoint. Single­use plastic water bottles create unnecessary waste and the plastic can be harmful to your health. 

 Open a few windows and turn off the air conditioner(空调). You should also help your children keep their good, green habits from home to place while travelling. Sometimes vacation can mean more than one shower each day—once in the morning and again after getting out of the pool. Pay attention to the number of showers and the length of showers.

If you are planning on travelling, there are a few simple rules about how to make life easier both before and after your journey. 

First of all, always check and double­check departure(出发) time. It is surprising how few people really do this carefully. Once I arrived at the airport a few minutes after ten. My secretary had got the ticket for me and I thought she had said that the plane left at 10：50. When I arrived at the airport, the person at the departure desk told me that my flight was closed. Therefore, I had to wait three hours for the next one and missed an important meeting. 

The second rule is to remember that even in this age of credit cards(信用卡), it is still important to have some local money in cash(现金). Once I arrived at a place at midnight and the bank at the airport was closed. The only way to get to my hotel was by taxi but because I had no dollars, I offered to pay in pounds instead. "Listen! I only take real money！" the driver said angrily. You can imagine how terrible I felt at that moment.

The third and the last rule is to find out as much as you can about the weather at your destination before you leave. I feel sorry for some of my workmates who travel in heavy suits and raincoats in May, when it is still fairly cool in London or Manchester, to places like Athens, Rome or Madrid, where it is already beginning to get quite warm during the day. 

Driving on up to Yosemite with my family was exciting but nerve­racking(神经紧张的). I had never been to such an amazing national park before, yet I wasn't the most athletic person, so I knew that I couldn't stick through all the hiking up and down. It actually ended up being a fun and adventurous experience. 

The ride there was definitely long but worth it. As I woke up from my nap, I saw the beautiful scenery of the tall mountains and beautiful streams. The trails were made nicely for visitors. The waterfalls were breathtaking. Climbing up rocks was one of my favorite parts. Even though I fell a couple of times, I still had a lot of fun. The fact that my family and I spent so much time together trying to find out which route to take and what views to watch really brought us closer together. 

The great thing about nature is that, it's just you, the views, and the people around you. There's nothing there to bother you and it's the best way to relax and enjoy yourself. Yosemite has 5 of the world's highest waterfalls, and about 300 lakes. The structure of each mountain is incredible; it's formed in ways that almost take your breath away. Some of them are of a deep dark color with waterfalls forming; some are formed with spots of green peeking(探出) out. It's definitely something that you wouldn't want to miss. 

Yosemite isn't the only great National Park but based on my experience I highly recommend going out and enjoying nature with family and friends. It's a great time to bond, laugh, and take in what Mother Nature offers. 

A Love Note to My Mum

When I was a little girl, you always modelled for fashion photographers. It was years later that I finally understood the role that modelling plays in your life. Little did I know you were saving every penny you made to go to law school. 

I cannot thank you enough for what you told me one autumn afternoon when I was nine. After finishing my homework, I went into the dining room where you were focusing on reading law books. I was confused. Why were you doing what I do—memorising textbooks and studying for tests? When you said you were in law school, I was even more surprised. I didn't know mums could be lawyers, too. You smiled and said, "In life, you can do anything you want to do. "

As young as I was, those words kept ringing in my ears. I watched as you faced the challenges of completing your studies, starting companies with Dad, while still being a model and a mum of five kids. You never complained and gave up. With your words of wisdom in my mind, I suddenly felt the freedom to dream. My whole world opened up. I set out to live my life filled with hope, seeing endless possibilities for personal and professional success. 

Your words became my motto(座右铭). As I grew up, I always found myself in the unique position of being either the first or one of the few women (chief medical reporters) in my field. I gained power every time I said, "Yes, I'll try that. "

Encouraged by your words, I have forged ahead(毅然前行) with my life's journey, less afraid to make mistakes or to meet challenges. You did it, and now I'm doing it. Sorry, I have got to run. So much to do, so many dreams to realise.
