 Studies have found that when you stop thinking about your own problems and focus on someone other than yourself, your stress levels start to go down, your immune system (免疫系统) is strengthened and your overall sense of life satisfaction increases. This is because helping someone else gives you a sense of purpose and makes you pay attention to the positive things in life. 

Volunteering helps you develop new relationships.  And it gives you the good chance to communicate with them. These can help you form close relationships with them. These relationships can have a lasting influence on your life. 

Volunteering teaches you valuable job skills. During volunteering, you can have lots of chances to learn useful and important skills. For example, volunteer organizations always provide on-the-job training courses for volunteers before they start the work. Those courses can help you learn some skills for certain jobs.  

Volunteering makes your resume (简历) attractive. Are you stuck for things to write on your resume to get the job you want?  Studies have found those who volunteered had a better chance of finding a job than those who didn't. Whether you do one thing on a regular basis or help with lots of different causes for shorter amounts of time, each voluntary experience you have looks great to your future bosses. 

For years, learning to speak Cantonese was not that hard in San Francisco. It is a place where Cantonese speakers from South China have moved for over 150 years. But now, there is fear that the Cantonese language and culture might not survive present social changes. Cantonese is spoken by some 85 million people worldwide. In comparison, there are around 1 billion Mandarin (or Putonghua) speakers. 

In Britain, as in the U. S. , most schools that offer Chinese usually teach Mandarin. As a result, many families are struggling to find ways to pass on their Cantonese language and culture. Ceci Pang runs classes for children at Rainbow Seeds Cantonese School in London. "Many parents want their kids to be able to communicate with their grandparents, " she said. "It's just so hard here, there are so few learning resources and lots of parents get upset. That's usually the point the parents come to me. "

In China, there are Cantonese television programs as well as Cantonese announcements on public transport. In Hong Kong, however, Cantonese remains the city's top language. It is used by 90 percent of the population according to an assistant professor at the Education University of Hong Kong. 

It is a different story in the U. S. The teaching of Cantonese has decreased somewhat, including in San Francisco, a city that has drawn many Cantonese speakers over the years. The San Francisco school system has Cantonese and Mandarin programs for younger students. But in high school, Mandarin is the only Chinese language available. This spring, some independent Chinese schools are helping to teach the language as Cantonese-speaking communities grow. Aleyda Poe has been managing the Cantonese kindergarten at Merit Chinese School in Plano, Texas, for more than 10 years. Poe put her two sons in the school so that they could learn about Cantonese language and culture. Now, she is helping other families do the same. 

One Concern is an AI company (人工智能公司) in California. It is using machine learning and AI to help firefighters. The company hopes its software (软件) can make exact predictions about earthquake damage. It can tell firefighters how to plan for an earthquake and how to do their jobs better when it happens. 

Nicole Hu, a technology officer from One Concern, says the key is to feed the computers a lot of data (数据) about an area. The data may include information about homes and other buildings, the natural environment, and the size of an earthquake. The computers then use the information to make predictions about what would happen if there were an earthquake in the area. It then uses data from past earthquakes to see whether its predictions are any good, and changes its predictive models accordingly. 

Gregory Deierlein, earthquake engineer at the Stanford University, says one of the most surprising things about the company's software is its ability to make use of data from an earthquake as it's happening, and to change its predictions in real time. 

In the past, researchers would collect data after an event and a few years later they'd produce new models, says Deierlein. Now the new models appear in a matter of minutes. 

Dan Ghiorso leads the Woodside Fire Protection District (区) near San Francisco, which covers about 32 square miles. He says in the past, when an earthquake hit, he'd have to make educated guesses (based on experience and training) about what parts of this district might be badly damaged and then drive to each place to have a look around. He hopes One Concerns' software will change that. "Instead of driving thirty-two square miles, in fifteen minutes on a computer I can get a good idea of the damage, " he says. "Instead of me taking my educated guess, they're putting science behind the predictive models. "

I love travelling, but it hasn't always been my passion. In my first year of university, I started to travel during the holiday. During the Christmas holiday I went to Paris, and during the spring vacation, I visited Athens and various cities in Italy. I was very excited because this was the first time I had travelled abroad with just my friends. This desire to travel started off simply as a way to have something to look forward to after exams, but I soon discovered how important it is to travel. 

On my travels I have had the opportunity to not only experience new and exciting cultures through the art, history, language and food, but also communicate with people who have different views on life. Travelling is a learning experience for both yourself and the people you meet. Some people I met during my travels had never heard of Gambia and it was very delightful to share my African roots with them. When you travel, you will meet people who have different cultural backgrounds and as a result, sometimes your own ideas and opinions might be challenged. It's important to learn to see things from other people's perspectives (观点) and to challenge your own. 

This is how I realized that travelling is the realization of home. When you travel you are exposed to a different setting, a different language and a different way of living. All these factors, mixed with a new and exciting adventure，make you realize your own home. Not just the physical location of home, but also your way of life and your outlook. 

Travelling is truly an enriching experience and I am always excited about the discoveries that wait for me in my next adventure!

A digital footprint is a record of a person's online activity, and it's becoming more common for companies to perform social media checks before hiring people, Business News Daily reported. 

When posting on social media platforms, some students don't think enough about how it could affect them in the future. Sometimes students post reckless（鲁莽的） content to their social media profiles without considering the potential consequences: They could be creating a damaging digital footprint that may prevent them from getting hired. 

Before determining who to hire, 70 percent of companies screen potential applicants and look at their social media, with 18 percent of employees losing their job due to their social media posts, according to a September 2022 study by CareerBuilder, a company that helps employers hire in the United States. "Sometimes some people's social media tell a lot more about somebody than an interview," said Rithika Mothukuri, a senior media studies and production major.

A 17-year-old lost out on a job opportunity after the company performed a background check and saw her videos on TikTok, Buzzfeed reported. Many of the videos shared overly personal stories, which was enough to cost her a job. 

Therefore, students should ensure a search for their name doesn't surface inappropriate content because even one unprofessional post could potentially ruin job opportunities. They should perform a digital declutter if there is such content though it may be very challenging to do that. So the most important is to refrain（避免）from posting content that contributes to a negative image in the first place. 

"I never had anything controversial or something that could get me fired from a workplace or school or something, but there are many cases of that happening and we should be learning from their mistakes ,"said Kieran Mc Carney, a junior social work major.

While having a clean digital is important, it's also important that students avoid doing anything that can be considered inappropriate in their real life. In this way, even others cannot post inappropriate images or videos of them on social media. 

When Richard Oswald was growing up in northwestern Missouri in the 1950s, his dad had a firm rule: Don't plant corn until mid-May. But that rule has become a relic of the past. In Rock Port, a small farming community near the Nebraska border, the growing season now begins more than a month earlier. 

That's not surprising. Across much of the US, winter is not as cold as it used to be. The four warmest Januaries on record have all occurred since 2016. In Missouri, winters are about 4 degrees hotter on average than in 1970-and farmers are starting to feel the effects.

To help protect her crops, Graznak has built four large greenhouses on her property in just over a decade. Inside, she's able to grow delicate, high-value crops, including flowers, lettuce and spinach.

Li Jianguo, a 49-year-old teacher at the Tianjin Vocational Institute, is set to be named as one of the "2022 most beautiful teachers"-an annual public award sponsored by the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the Ministry of Education.

Li has stood out by taking the lead in the training of students in vocational skills, gaining a number of honors including being named as a national role model teacher. He has mentored(指导)seven national-level technique experts and a team of 14 technique masters. One of his students, Guo Jinpeng, who graduated from the institute in 2007, became a college teacher at the Chengdu Auto Vocational and Technical School and was named as a national role model teacher in 2019. 

Li's nomination as one of the "2022 most beautiful teachers" reflects that China is focusing on the importance of vocational education and aims to foster(培养)more leading personnel with the spirit of craftsmanship in the manufacturing industry.

At an international vocational and technical education conference in Tianjin last month, Li noted that there is no difference between vocational education and ordinary education, and vocational education is not secondary nor should it ever be treated as less than ordinary education. "Vocational education has the mission of fostering a quality workforce and technical experts for the country. The hardworking spirit is the key to building any ordinary people into leading personnel," he said.

Li joined the institute in 1993 and later founded a machinery engineering practice center, providing free training to 7,500 people a week. In 2015, he led a team of teachers to work for 40 days to repair 124 machine tools in the center. Li has devoted himself to building the country's first additive manufacturing technique and application center at the institute to satisfy the thirst for the country's human resources in 3D printing.

Exploring nature allows us to catch sight of rare animals and come across special places of beauty. Of course, none of this would be possible  protected nature areas. This is  national parks are so important. A few national parks allow things like hotels and recreation areas  (construct) within them, but most parks do not allow any development at all. 

The very first national park  (be)also one of the most famous in the world—Yellowstone, in the western USA. Nineteenth-century explorers  (amaze) by what they saw in Yellowstone. Apart from the beautiful mountains,  (rush) rivers, and tall waterfalls, there were geysers, which sent boiling water as high as 91 meters into the air. Then there were the hot springs, as colourful as rainbows. These explorers wanted to protect the natural  (feature) of the area from development so that future generations could enjoy the area. And so, in 1872, Yellowstone was established as  national park. Today, around four million people a year visit it. Many come hoping to see wildlife,  is no longer as common in the American West as it once was. Everyone comes to see the geysers, (especial) Old Faithful, which sits near the centre of the park, and sends 95. 6 ℃ water up to 56 metres into the air every 44 to 125 minutes. 

While I was riding a bike, I noticed a man about half a mile in front of me. He was traveling at a lower speed, so I decided to1  him. I had about a mile to go on the road before turning off.
