Maggie was an average teenager who often felt invisible among her peers (同龄人). She felt like she was an outsider. School, in particular, was a source of anxiety for her.

When she was depressed, she would hide in her small garden. But the plants there never seemed to thrive (繁茂). It was always a disappointment, and she felt discouraged. "I am just a loser," she thought to herself.

One day, while visiting a gardening website, Maggie discovered an exciting smart device called "GreenThumb." It claimed to help even the most inexperienced gardeners grow amazing plants. Interested, she decided to give it a try.

As soon as Maggie received the GreenThumb device and unboxed it, she carefully followed the set up steps, and within minutes, GreenThumb was activated and began to scan (扫描) the garden. Imagine having a cool device that tells you exactly what the plants need — like a personal plant caretaker! It reminds you to water, gives you tips on when to feed your plants, and even warns you about diseases. GreenThumb was just like a friend who always cared and helped.

During a lunch break at school, some classmates began discussing the latest events that had happened. Maggie wanted to share GreenThumb with others, too. But her voice was soon drowned out by louder voices. The conversation soon shifted to music, with each person talking about their favorite song or artist. Maybe they didn't hear her. Or they were just uninterested. She sank into silence, feeling unseen and unheard again. "I'll show you what I can do with GreenThumb," she said to herself with determination.

Every day after school, Maggie couldn't wait to take care of her garden. She spent countless hours in her garden tending to each plant. At first, she strictly followed GreenThumb's instructions. As time went by, she found her own talent in gardening and added some creative ideas to make her garden unique.

In Caoxian county, Shandong, hanfu workshops are innovating traditional designs. • 14、"Growing fruit trees is a very simple way to stay in love with our world," says Vivian Keh, drama writer and daughter of immigrants. She holds a basket of persimmons (柿子) she planted to feel connected to her Korean ancestors. Keh is just one of the 50remarkable subjects in nature writer Amy Stewart's The Tree Collectors: Tales of Arboreal Obsession, a book of people transformed by their love of trees.

Initially, Stewart thought collecting trees was strange. Later, curious about these tree lovers, she discovered educators, protectors and forward-thinkers, all drawn to a kind of collection, motivated by different reasons for planting trees. They plant trees in all kinds of places, big and small, public and private, nurturing (培育) their trees to honor beloved dead, attract wildlife, preserve rare species, connect to history, invest in the future, grow food and create beauty.

Steward categorizes these tree collectors according to their sense of purpose. Kenneth Hoegh, one of the book's "ecologists" tests which cold-loving species might grow in a warming and historically treeless Greenland. "Healer" Joe Hamilton plants loblolly pines on land he got from his enslaved ancestors, intending to create a sustainable forest that will provide long-term wealth for his family. Reagan Wytsalucy wants to rebuild traditional peach gardens on Navajo land. She's part of a group called "community builders" who work to bring people together.

Stewart's watercolor illustrations make the book even more charming — She pictures the people in her stories and also captures the beauty of the trees, like the unique eucalyptus seeds and delicate camellia flowers.

After spending time in this varied community, you'll undoubtedly experience a strong desire to rest under the shade of a leafy tree. But there's more to it: the book gives people a chance to share what they love. "How often do any of us get a chance to pour our hearts out to a stranger?" she writes. "Somehow, talking about trees made it possible."

(1)、What makes Stewart change her attitude towards tree collectors?
A、Protection of wildlife. B、Fear of losing tree species. C、Exploration of their motivations. D、Honor of their beloved dead.
(2)、What is the main purpose of Reagan Wytsalucy's tree planting project?
A、To develop rare tree species. B、To strengthen people's social bonds. C、To test new farming techniques. D、To create a lasting financial source.
(3)、What does the quote in the last paragraph suggest about discussing trees?
A、It inspires new ideas. B、It allows deep emotional sharing. C、It rarely happens in public. D、It helps resolve environmental issues.
(4)、What does the writer think of the book?
    A、Inspiring. B、Conventional. C、Complicated. D、Abstract.

Steve adjusted the strap of his baseball glove as he dashed through the kitchen. "Mom, I'm going to Paul's!" he announced, nearly knocking into the refrigerator. The screen door slammed behind him, creating an echo in the hot summer air.

This summer meant more than lazy days — their middle school coach had warned that making the freshman team required intense practice. That was why they would meet other boys on the field this afternoon.

Paul was waiting outside for Steve. "What are you doing? Where's your stuff?" Steve lifted his bat onto his shoulder.

Paul pointed at Thompson's house across the street. "I have to clean Mr. Thompson's garage before I can go. With his broken arm, he can't do it himself. My mom always volunteers me to help him. He's kind of old."

"Okay," said Steve. "I'll help you. We'll get done quicker working together."

The garage smelled of motor oil and aged wood. Sunlight filtered through dusty windows as they sorted gardening tools and moved paint cans. As Paul put a big box on a shelf, it fell off and with it fell an envelope, its contents spilling across the concrete floor like autumn leaves. Paul bent down, breath catching as he recognized Benjamin Franklin's strict face repeated on dozens of hundred-dollar bills.

"You've got to see this." He pulled out a handful of bills and showed Steve.

"Whoa," said Steve. "Where did you get this?"

Paul pointed to the shelf. "It just fell down when the box fell. There's got to be a couple of thousand dollars here." Paul looked past Steve to the garage door opening. Mr. Thompson was struggling to water his roses one-handed. "The coast is clear. If we take some, I bet no one will ever know."

Steve furrowed his brow and shook his head. "Are you crazy? That's stealing."

"Well, I do a lot of chores for him and don't get paid. It's not really stealing; it's kind of payment for my hard work."

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and night markets, two seemingly unrelated things, have recently become unique combination loved by young Chinese. Instead of occurring in hospitals and clinics during the day, services like check-ups, acupuncture, and dietary advice (offer) by TCM doctors in the bustling atmosphere of night markets have attracted a significant number of young people.

Cities across China, including Beijing and Guangzhou, are working hospitals to set up free TCM stalls (摊档) at night markets. Young workers, who often cannot visit hospitals in the daytime because of busy jobs, find this new idea (attract).

Yao Shuai, a heart doctor, says this trend shows cultural revival (复兴). "TCM at night markets (meet) young people's health needs while also supporting their sense of cultural pride," he told Global Times. The relaxed environment and friendly talks with doctors make the experience (great), leading to more interest.

Beyond treatments, visitors can learn about TCM culture by trying herbal teas or buying small scented sachets (香包). night markets once mainly (sell) local snacks and handmade items, the addition of TCM brings cultural meaning. This matches China's growing night economy, creates jobs and helps local shops.

Professor Zhang Yiwu praises the trend, "TCM at night markets shows it stays useful in modern life while keeping its traditions." From Baduanjin exercises to herbal treatments, TCM's growing (popular) among young people is giving new energy to ancient practices.

  • 20、Which is lighter in color: a grass lawn or a pine tree? The lawn, right? And how did you decide? Almost certainly by "seeing" them both in your mind, and comparing the two shades of green.

But not everyone can do that. Using this question, research revealed aphantasia — an inability to form mental images — affecting 2-5% of the population. While most people use mental imagery to help them remember, aphantasiacs have to use other techniques.

Be observant about sounds, textures, tastes, and particularly smells. Practice bringing these to mind, and use them whenever you can to connect with your memories.

Another powerful method involves connecting memories to emotional experiences. How did you feel when you visited the place, watched the film, or read the book that you're trying to recall?

Think logically. For instance, by analyzing a series of events, you might determine when something occurred. Similarly, retracing your steps and piecing through your day can help you figure out where you lost a possession.

Additionally, try to create muscle memory. If you've done something many times, it may be easier to stop trying to remember it, and just let it happen.

These are strategies that many people with aphantasia rely on, instead of image clues, and we can all learn something from them.

    A. Start by observing everything around you.

    B. These are the ways we can all learn and recall information.

    C. One effective approach is to actively engage senses beyond vision.

    D. To improve memory, focus on physical exercise as well as mental effort.

    E. Feelings help to store long-term memories, so use them to boost recall, too.

    F. Even without visual clues, you can also use reasoning to unlock the mysteries of your past.

    G. If you can't recall a password, for example, check whether your fingers can just type it automatically.
