How to Deal with Your Homework

Write it down. 

 Make a note on your notebook. Always remember to write down any homework for school so you won't forget anything. 

Create a homework station. 

Find somewhere comfortable and quiet to work.  It will take twice as long to get the homework done. Shut off your cell phone, power off your computer and close the door. 

Do it as early as possible. 

Don't leave homework to the last minute.  The earlier you start your homework, the sooner you will finish!

Do all your homework as early as you can. Then you won't have a pile of (一堆) homework the next day. 

Think about how long it will take you to finish each homework subject. For example: English—ten minutes, science—ten minutes, math—forty minutes, Chinese—twenty minutes, etc. 

Relax yourself. 

You can easily get tired by sitting through an hour or two of homework without stopping. Once you finish homework for a subject, take a small break. Just make sure it's quick(no more than 15 minutes). Do not turn on the cell phone, or you'll never go back and finish your homework.

Since the outbreak of COVID­19 in early 2020, public health and government officials have put social distancing rules in place and advised people to stay at home as much as possible. Many schools around the world started online learning. 

Do teenagers have it easy being home all the time? Not necessarily. They can't connect with teachers and friends in person and do outdoor activities. They are even concerned about the deadly disease. These have caused a rise in anxiety among young people. 

In a study of about 1, 500 teens last spring, 70% kids said that they were struggling with anxiety and 45% had felt more stressed than usual. Poncin, a professor of clinical child psychiatry (精神病学), said that it's difficult to show exactly what is causing the increased stress. Some factors focus on our communities and families, while others are individual (个别的). "That's right, " said Mr. Flores. "Can you tell us something about Puerto Rico？"

"I came here when I was only eight months old. I don't remember anything, " Julio replied.

"I think you can interview your parents instead, " Mr. Flores said.

Julio nodded. It would be fun to learn more about the place where he had been born.

I was 400 meters from the finish line when my legs stopped working during the State cross-country race. In a moment faster than I could imagine, I watched my dreams crash helplessly to the ground. Lifting my face from the dirt, I looked up and saw my dad's face.

I was the fastest runner on my team, and I was supposed to make it into the top fifteen. We had been working towards this race for three years. It was everything to me, and it was everything to my dad. He was a runner and was proud of my success in running. 

He made it to every race, even flying home early from business trips to see me run. He pushed me. He cheered for me. He believed in me. We pounded miles and miles into our running shoes, marking with every step the path to greatness. It was a dream passed on from one generation to the next. 

I'll never forget that day. It was hotter than normal—too hot. I waited for the gun to fire. This was the day we had waited so long for. I glanced at the crowd; dozens of familiar faces from school came into my view. They had come for me. I saw my dad set his watch, worry and excitement appearing on his face. Adrenaline(肾上腺素) flowed through my body, and the race began.

For the first 2. 5miles, I felt great. I'd never been so ready for something. Determination focused my mind and guided my steps. As in all of my races, I didn't start out in the front. I loved the feeling of passing people as my endurance(耐力) overtook their premature speed.

Imagine you've chosen a business based on his promise to make it cheaper for drivers to fill up on gas. At first glance , that seems great.  If gasoline use is less restricted by cost, this could also cause a huge surge in air pollution -- an unintended consequence that's important to think about. 

Ask yourself why so many people are drawn to countless travel trips or destinations. Even if you disagree with everything that travel agencies say, exploring the viewpoints might explain why some routes that don't seem valid to you appeal to others. This will allow you to explore alternatives , evaluate your own choices, and ultimately help you make more informed decisions.

This above process is just one tool, and it certainly won' t remove difficult decisions from our lives.

Computers are closely linked to education today and the Internet can offer any help you want. But for now experts say, don't throw away your books. Researchers in Spain and Israel took a close look at 54 studies comparing digital and print reading. Their 2018 study involved more than 171 . 000 readers. " Students often think they learn more from reading online. When tested, though, it turns out that they actually learned less than when reading in print, says the researcher.

Reading is not natural, explains Maryanne Wolf, a neuroscientist who specializes in how the brain reads. We learn to talk by listening to those around us. It's pretty automatic. But learning to read takes real work. It's because the brain has no special network of cells just for reading. To understand text, the brain borrows networks that evolved(进化) to do other things. This is similar to how you might adapt a tool for some new use. For example, a coat hanger is great for putting your clothes in the closet. But if a blueberry rolls under the refrigerator, you might straighten out the coat hanger and use it to reach under the fridge and pull out the fruit. You've taken a tool made for one thing and adapted it for something new. That's what the brain does when you read.

Lithium(锂) is called "white gold" for good reason. But acquiring lithium comes at an enormous cost. It often works like this: Water containing lithium is delivered to the surface from underground and mixed with fresh water. The mixture then sits in pools to get rid of water, leaving the rest of its contents behind as brightly colored "mud". Then heat and chemical reactions are used to get lithium from that, changing it into powder which is then packaged and shipped to buyers around the world.

My wife, Hannah, and I don't usually keep houseplants. Anything in pots gets either overwatered or underwatered, but after my diagnosis(诊断) with brain cancer, I loved the idea of having something green around.

A friend gave me what he said was a lucky bamboo plant in a deep-green bowl. We placed the plant in the living room and I told Hannah I wanted to care for it myself. When it didn't immediately turn yellow or lose leaves, I was pleasantly surprised. Tending to the plant gave me a sense of accomplishment when I sometimes felt useless. As a family physician, I was used to offering care, not receiving it.

Since my diagnosis, I had to rely on help from other people. Watering the plant, small act as it was, connected me to a core part of my old identity. 

After I recovered from the operation and returned to work. I continued to care for the plant. Soon, it had nearly doubled in height. Both the tree and I were thriving(茁壮成长). Then, without any reason, it began to show signs of stress. Its leaves kept browning and dropping to the floor. Hannah reminded me that we'd seen houseplants die before, but I couldn't shake the feeling that the plant had become a symbol of my health. I grew increasingly depressed and fearful.

Looking back, I realized I had wrongly connected my caring of the plant—something I could manage—with my own survival—something I couldn't. Knowing I couldn't control my fate(命运), my anxiety actually lessened. I began to search online to figure out how to care for my plant. Following the instructions, I transplanted the plant to a larger pot, giving it room to grow. When it was back in the sunny window, we both began to thrive again. Whenever I look at the plant in its new pot, I make a point to think of those who have cared for and supported me.

As the forest decreases, Africa has become overly dependent on several tree species. Fortunately, the Volunteer National Parks and Reserves Project is helping to stop this terrible trend. Choose from Kakum National Park, Shai Hills Resource Reserve or Mole National Park and make a vital contribution to environmental preservation in Ghana.

Your role as a volunteer

You will help by maintaining the grounds, constructing or repairing park facilities and assisting with land management projects, as well as directing park visitors, promoting the park's tourist appeal and raising awareness of environmental issues.

Also help lower the rate of forest decrease and protect the biodiversity within Ghana's national parks and reserves. Media-loved volunteers may also get involved in park projects related to video creation, photography and image arts.

National parks and reserves volunteers typically work five days, from Monday to Friday. Working hours are from 8 a. m. until 3 p. m. . However, schedules and exact duties may vary depending on the park you're based at, your qualifications, and the time and duration of your stay. Journey to work
