How to Deal with Your Homework

    Write it down.

Make a note on your notebook. Always remember to write down any homework for school so you won't forget anything.

    Create a homework station.

Find somewhere comfortable and quiet to work.  It will take twice as long to get the homework done. Shut off your cell phone, power off your computer and close the door.

Do it as early as possible.

Don't leave homework to the last minute.  The earlier you start your homework, the sooner you will finish!

Do all your homework as early as you can. Then you won't have a pile of (一堆) homework the next day.

Think about how long it will take you to finish each homework subject. For example: English—ten minutes, science—ten minutes, math—forty minutes, Chinese—twenty minutes, etc.

    Relax yourself.

You can easily get tired by sitting through an hour or two of homework without stopping. Once you finish homework for a subject, take a small break. Just make sure it's quick(no more than 15 minutes). Do not turn on the cell phone, or you'll never go back and finish your homework.

    A. Use your time in a proper way.

    B. Start as soon as you get home.

    C. Start with your hardest homework.

    D. Never do your homework in front of the TV.

    E. You can take a walk or find something to eat.

    F. After short breaks, return to finish up the rest of your work.

    G. Keep a homework notebook where you record all your homework.

Since the outbreak of COVID19 in early 2020, public health and government officials have put social distancing rules in place and advised people to stay at home as much as possible. Many schools around the world started online learning.

Do teenagers have it easy being home all the time? Not necessarily. They can't connect with teachers and friends in person and do outdoor activities. They are even concerned about the deadly disease. These have caused a rise in anxiety among young people.

In a study of about 1, 500 teens last spring, 70% kids said that they were struggling with anxiety and 45% had felt more stressed than usual. Poncin, a professor of clinical child psychiatry (精神病学), said that it's difficult to show exactly what is causing the increased stress. Some factors focus on our communities and families, while others are individual (个别的). "There are many stress factors that teens are worried about, like their parents losing jobs, family members getting sick, parents not being home, not talking with friends, and more, " Poncin said. "Teens need to learn how to be together and how to talk and be with people. "

Thinking about something over and over also builds stress. To help ease (缓解) their worries, teens can bike, walk the dog or even pick up a new hobby.

In my home state of North Carolina, Roy Goode, head of the local educational agency, is especially concerned about students who don't have the resources they need to learn at home. "Today's students are tomorrow's leaders, " he said. "We need to make sure they all have a chance to succeed so we can overcome any challenge that comes our way. "

(1)、Why does the author list the numbers in Paragraph 3?
A、To tell the reasons leading to anxiety. B、To stress the importance of being together. C、To show teens' increased mental problems. D、To stress the need for dealing with sadness.
(2)、Which of the following best shows Poncin's opinion?
A、He believes chatting online helps. B、He thinks teens should learn at home. C、He thinks there are different reasons for teens' stress. D、He believes government is responsible for COVID19.
(3)、According to the passage, what can teens do to free them from worries?
A、Stay at home alone. B、Develop new hobbies. C、Play computer games. D、Have a walk with friends.

"Good morning, " the new teacher said. "I'm Ernesto Flores, your teacher for fifth grade. " In all his years in school, Julio had never heard a teacher use his or her first name. Of course, the students always found out what they were, but it was up to the students to discover this information for themselves.

"Now I'd like to find out who you are, " said Mr. Flores. He began to call the roll (点名), starting with the boys. Julio shook his head. Teachers always began with the girls.

"Julio Sanchez, " called Mr. Flores, pronouncing it Hulio. That was the correct way to say the name in Spanish.

Several kids laughed. They had never heard Julio's name pronounced without the J. Mr. Flores looked up from the roll book. "Isn't that how you say your name?" he asked Julio. "Or do you prefer Julio with a J?"

"At home, they call me Hulio. But at school everyone calls me Julio, " Julio said.

"Do you like two pronunciations of your name?" asked the teacher. "It's a good Spanish name and you should be proud of it. "

Julio smiled. "I know, " he said, "but it doesn't matter to me. "

"Are you sure?" asked Mr. Flores. "Your name is a very important part of you. "

Julio thought for a moment. "Okay, " he said. "From now on, everyone please call me Hulio. Puerto Rico, where I was born, used to be a Spanish colony (殖民地). "

"That's right, " said Mr. Flores. "Can you tell us something about Puerto Rico?"

"I came here when I was only eight months old. I don't remember anything, " Julio replied.

"I think you can interview your parents instead, " Mr. Flores said.

Julio nodded. It would be fun to learn more about the place where he had been born.

Julio had to admit (承认) that Mr. Flores was creative and interesting.

(3)、What would Julio probably do after school?
A、Discover more information about his new teacher. B、Learn how to pronounce his name correctly. C、Use the new name his new teacher gave to him. D、Find out more about his birthplace.

I was 400 meters from the finish line when my legs stopped working during the State cross-country race. In a moment faster than I could imagine, I watched my dreams crash helplessly to the ground. Lifting my face from the dirt, I looked up and saw my dad's face.

I was the fastest runner on my team, and I was supposed to make it into the top fifteen. We had been working towards this race for three years. It was everything to me, and it was everything to my dad. He was a runner and was proud of my success in running.

He made it to every race, even flying home early from business trips to see me run. He pushed me. He cheered for me. He believed in me. We pounded miles and miles into our running shoes, marking with every step the path to greatness. It was a dream passed on from one generation to the next.

I'll never forget that day. It was hotter than normal—too hot. I waited for the gun to fire. This was the day we had waited so long for. I glanced at the crowd; dozens of familiar faces from school came into my view. They had come for me. I saw my dad set his watch, worry and excitement appearing on his face. Adrenaline(肾上腺素) flowed through my body, and the race began.

For the first 2. 5miles, I felt great. I'd never been so ready for something. Determination focused my mind and guided my steps. As in all of my races, I didn't start out in the front. I loved the feeling of passing people as my endurance(耐力) overtook their premature speed.

Without warning, my strength began to disappear. My lungs fought to take in enough air and my feet became stuck. I still don't know what happened in those last few moments. Neck and neck with my greatest competitors, I could see the finish line, but nothing I could do would make my legs hold my weight. They were as weak as cotton.

    注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
    2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

I watched in pain as runners rushed by me.

Every day, a sea of decisions stretches before us. It's impossible to make a perfect choice every time, But there is one particularly effective technique to improve our chances: critical thinking.

    Prepare your question.

For example, if you're wondering whether to go for fitness, there are many factors that will cloud your reasons. But, if you know clearly what you can get by body-shaping, that'll help you decidewhether it really suits your needs

    Gather your information.

There's lots of it out there, so having a clear idea of your question will help you determine what's relevant. If you're trying to decide on a diet to improve your nutrition, you may ask an expert for their advice ,or seek other people's opinions.

    Consider the implications.

Imagine you've chosen a business based on his promise to make it cheaper for drivers to fill up on gas. At first glance , that seems great.  If gasoline use is less restricted by cost, this could also cause a huge surge in air pollution -- an unintended consequence that's important to think about.

Ask yourself why so many people are drawn to countless travel trips or destinations. Even if you disagree with everything that travel agencies say, exploring the viewpoints might explain why some routes that don't seem valid to you appeal to others. This will allow you to explore alternatives , evaluate your own choices, and ultimately help you make more informed decisions.

This above process is just one tool, and it certainly won' t remove difficult decisions from our lives.

And, if enough of us use it, it has the power to make the world a more reasonable place.

    A. Explore other points of view.

    B. Apply the information collected.

    C. In other words , get to know what you're looking for.

    D. Then what about the long-term environmental effects?

    E. But it can help us increase the number of positive choices we make.

    F. Therefore , ask yourself about what interests you most and what is needed.

    G. It helps you weigh different options , moving you closer to a wiser decision.

Computers are closely linked to education today and the Internet can offer any help you want. But for now experts say, don't throw away your books. Researchers in Spain and Israel took a close look at 54 studies comparing digital and print reading. Their 2018 study involved more than 171 . 000 readers. " Students often think they learn more from reading online. When tested, though, it turns out that they actually learned less than when reading in print, says the researcher.

Reading is not natural, explains Maryanne Wolf, a neuroscientist who specializes in how the brain reads. We learn to talk by listening to those around us. It's pretty automatic. But learning to read takes real work. It's because the brain has no special network of cells just for reading. To understand text, the brain borrows networks that evolved(进化) to do other things. This is similar to how you might adapt a tool for some new use. For example, a coat hanger is great for putting your clothes in the closet. But if a blueberry rolls under the refrigerator, you might straighten out the coat hanger and use it to reach under the fridge and pull out the fruit. You've taken a tool made for one thing and adapted it for something new. That's what the brain does when you read.

It's great that the brain is so flexible. It's one reason we can learn to do so many new things. But that can be a problem when you make a switch from your reading material to another type of it. Namely, when we read online , the brain creates a different set of connections between cells from the ones it uses for reading in print. It basically adapts the same tool again for the new task. This is like if you took a coat hanger and instead of straightening it out to fetch a blueberry, you twisted it into a hook to unclog a drain(疏通下水道). Same original tool, two very different forms.

(1)、What can be known from the 2018 study?
A、Students can learn more from online materials. B、Reading in print leads to a better understanding. C、The Internet counts a lot in gathering information D、Fewer people prefer reading books at present time.
(2)、What is the writing purpose of Paragraph 2?
A、To show what the brain takes to read. B、To illustrate how the brain evolves C、To introduce a coat hanger's functions. D、To outline the features of reading
(3)、What might cause a problem for the brain's flexibility?
A、Different types of texts. B、Basic forms of the tools. C、Different formats of texts. D、Interpersonal connections.
(4)、What is the best title for the text?

Lithium(锂) is called "white gold" for good reason. The metal's value has been growing sharply over the last several years, in a large part because it is an essential part of batteries as well as several key sustainable technologies where energy storage is of huge significance. As electric cars, wind and solar power have grown into major players in the energy industry, lithium has become key to engineering a future free of fossil(化石) fuels.

But acquiring lithium comes at an enormous cost. It often works like this: Water containing lithium is delivered to the surface from underground and mixed with fresh water. The mixture then sits in pools to get rid of water, leaving the rest of its contents behind as brightly colored "mud". Then heat and chemical reactions are used to get lithium from that, changing it into powder which is then packaged and shipped to buyers around the world.

Any accident that releases mine contents into surrounding communities or the groundwater supply could have unimaginable long-term impacts. To be specific, local communities often bear the damage and political leaders have typically given little weight to their concerns. In Arizona, for example, an expanding lithium mine is threatening the Hualapai Tribe's cultural and historic sites. Recently mining lithium and other precious metals has brought about conflict: How do we ensure the availability of materials essential to the future of renewables while protecting those communities rights?

Mining of the metal is expected to increase dramatically in coming years. Over time, experts say, that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions(排放) by making electric cars more affordable and, therefore, more popular. As environmentally conscious consumers buy electric cars in ever-greater numbers, it's important to be aware of the dirty process that powers those clean air vehicles.

My wife, Hannah, and I don't usually keep houseplants. Anything in pots gets either overwatered or underwatered, but after my diagnosis(诊断) with brain cancer, I loved the idea of having something green around.

A friend gave me what he said was a lucky bamboo plant in a deep-green bowl. We placed the plant in the living room and I told Hannah I wanted to care for it myself. When it didn't immediately turn yellow or lose leaves, I was pleasantly surprised. Tending to the plant gave me a sense of accomplishment when I sometimes felt useless. As a family physician, I was used to offering care, not receiving it.

Since my diagnosis, I had to rely on help from other people. Watering the plant, small act as it was, connected me to a core part of my old identity

After I recovered from the operation and returned to work. I continued to care for the plant. Soon, it had nearly doubled in height. Both the tree and I were thriving(茁壮成长). Then, without any reason, it began to show signs of stress. Its leaves kept browning and dropping to the floor. Hannah reminded me that we'd seen houseplants die before, but I couldn't shake the feeling that the plant had become a symbol of my health. I grew increasingly depressed and fearful.

Looking back, I realized I had wrongly connected my caring of the plant—something I could manage—with my own survival—something I couldn't. Knowing I couldn't control my fate(命运), my anxiety actually lessened. I began to search online to figure out how to care for my plant. Following the instructions, I transplanted the plant to a larger pot, giving it room to grow. When it was back in the sunny window, we both began to thrive again. Whenever I look at the plant in its new pot, I make a point to think of those who have cared for and supported me.

(1)、Why was the author surprised about the plant's good condition?
A、Because of his recent diagnosis. B、Because of his worsening health. C、Because of his previous failures. D、Because of his unusual good luck.
(2)、What does the underlined part in paragraph 3 imply?
A、The author considered himself useless. B、The author felt connected to the plant. C、The author desired to provide care. D、The author hoped to return to work.
    (3)、Why was the author fearful?
A、Because the plant's poor health might indicate his death. B、Because the stress of work would harm his well-being. C、Because he might have to rely on others from then on. D、Because he would experience a rather risky operation.
(4)、How did the author lessen his anxiety?
A、By searching plant knowledge online. B、By thinking of those who supported him. C、By knowing he would survive in the end. D、By accepting his unavoidable limitation.
