Phones, computers and TV sets are great resources for getting information and lots of funs for entertainment. However, we can be harmful and some people needed help to break away from them. Even if people are chatting on their phones, but they can still feel lonely. Reducing screen time mean people can connect with their family and friends in the really world. Beside, it's also a great chance for people to go outside and be active, that is good for their health. Too much screen time can result other problems. It is necessary for people to set limits and learn to live without play with their devices.

1. Relax

The Living Planet Index (LPI) report shows that wildlife numbers have dropped sharply since 1970. It says that, on average, wildlife populations dropped by 69% in the 48 years from 1970 to 2018. That's a huge drop. Marco Lambertini, who leads the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), said, "The message is clear and the lights are flashing red."

The LPI is reporting the average change in the size of animal populations over time. Some kinds of animals are in worse trouble than others. Populations of vertebrates (脊椎动物) that live in fresh water (not oceans) have dropped by 83%. The numbers of sharks and rays in the oceans have gone down by 71%. Central and South America and the Caribbean had the greatest population losses — a drop by 94%. Next came Africa, with a 66% drop, followed by Asia and the Pacific with a 55% drop. Europe and North America showed smaller losses. These areas probably had greater losses before 1970.

The biggest problem is the loss of wild areas to growing cities, and activities like farming and deforestation. Hunting, poaching (偷猎), overfishing, and pollution are also big challenges. Climate change is a growing problem, and may soon be the biggest one.

But there are some hopeful signs. About half of the populations are jarless or growing. In some cases, human efforts to protect animals are working. For example, nests of loggerhead turtles in Chrysochou Bay, Cyprus rose by 500% from 1999 to 2015 because of efforts to protect them.

An international meeting on biodiversity this December is seen as extremely important. The meeting, called COP15, is being run by the United Nations in Montreal, Canada. The meeting's goal is to get countries to agree to new guidelines to help stop the loss of animals, plants and wild lands by 2030. "Our future depends on reversing (逆转) the loss of nature just as much as it depends on addressing climate change," says Carter Roberts, who leads WWF in the US. "And you can't solve one without solving the other."

However, weak AI, which replaces human processing in a specific field, has already influenced our daily life. For example, OpenAI, the San Francisco-based startup opened up the language model ChatGPT for public testing in November 2022. Compared with traditional search engines, which display simple results according to searching keywords, ChatGPT can interact with people just like dialoguing, answer professional questions, and also answer follow-up questions. Thanks to its revolutionary user experience, ChatGPT obtained more than one million users just five days after its release. 

More than a Chatbot ChatGPT can also realize article creation, code generating and other functions only by requesting. ChatGPT can even write code such as Python, debug (排错) code and generate comments for code just like a professional programmer. It also presented strong capacity in content continuation, literary creation, music creation, etc. It is so powerful that New York City public schools have banned it from their networks and school devices. 

However, ChatGPT is still far from perfect. Even OpenAI's CEO once said, "It's a mistake to be relying on it for anything important right now. It's a preview of progress. We have lots of work to do on robustness (稳健性) and truthfulness." 

Even though AI like ChatGPT still has a long way to go, predictions about how the technology will influence our society are already there. Among the industries that may be most affected by ChatGPT, experts say, are journalism, law and translation.

My wife, Hannah, and I don't usually keep houseplants. Anything in pots gets either overwatered or underwatered, but after my diagnosis with brain cancer, I loved the idea of having something green around.

A friend gave me what he said was a lucky bamboo plant in a deep-green bowl. We placed the plant in the living room and I told Hannah I wanted to care for it myself. When it didn't immediately turn yellow or lose leaves, I was pleasantly surprised. Tending to the plant gave me a sense of accomplishment when I sometimes felt useless. As a family physician, I was used to offering care, not receiving it.

Since my diagnosis, I had to rely on help from other people. Watering the plant, small act as it was, connected me to a core part of my old identity.

After I recovered from the operation and returned to work, I continued to care for the plant. Soon, it had nearly doubled in height. Both the plant and I were thriving. Then, without any reason, it began to show signs of stress. Its leaves kept browning and dropping to the floor. Hannah reminded me that we'd seen houseplants die before, but I couldn't shake the feeling that the plant had become a symbol of my health. I grew increasingly depressed and fearful.

Looking back, I realized I had wrongly connected my caring of the plant—something I could manage—with my own survival—something I couldn't. Knowing I couldn't control my fate (命运), my anxiety actually lessened. I began to search online to figure out how to care for my plant. Following the instructions, I transplanted the plant to a larger pot, giving it room to grow. When it was back in the sunny window, we both began to thrive again. Whenever I look at the plant in its new pot, I make a point to think of those who have cared for and supported me.
