1、根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。答案写在答题卡上。
Inner beauty is very important, but external beauty also plays a part in the image we present to the world. One of the problems that damage our image is weight gain. According to a research, most of our weight is gained over the holiday season. It's a time when family and friends gather to enjoy each other's company. No wonder maintaining a healthy weight can present even more challenges.
Does that mean we are bound to see a bigger number when we stand on the scale (秤) in January? Study shows you can keep to your meal routines, choose low-fat foods when it is possible and walk off the weight. Here are a few more tips to help you keep your weight in check without sacrificing your holiday traditions.
If you are the host, you will be struggling with tasting while cooking. In this case, try to chew sugar-free gum while preparing the meal, or have a small snack before you start cooking. For the meal, serve more raw vegetables and yogurt-based dips to start the event.
It's a good idea to mark all the holiday events you'll be attending on your calendar so that you'll remember to plan ahead. If the meal is not at your home, eat lighter on the day of the event. If the event is in the evening, have a healthy breakfast and satisfying lunch, with a light snack before the event to avoid overeating later.
For example, take a walk or meet up to see holiday lights, or attend a holiday concert or show. Catch up with a friend over a film instead of meeting for a coffee. Just explore things that you all enjoy doing.
Making an effort with your weight helps you keep a healthy life and boost your confidence. Although preventing weight gain over the holidays can be a challenge, it is possible. So next time, try the above.
A. Serve plenty of fresh fruit to finish.
B. How much exercise can burn off this energy?
C. And certainly, tasting delicious food is a must.
D. Or can we keep the holiday weight gain at bay?
E. Start new traditions that are not centered on food.
F. Here are some tips that ensure you look good inside out.
G. It can help balance the possible extra calories at the party.

Do you know that it only takes an algorithm (算法) to turn you into a Pablo Picasso? All you need to do is follow three simple steps: choose, provide and create. To be more specific, choose an AI Art Generator, provide the generator with your preferred requirement and hit the "create" button. Even ordinary people without any painting skills can do it well.
Chinese netizens have been amazed and amused by the results created by AI art generators. Some platforms providing AI painting services gained more than 600,000 users in a single day in November, with people aged 25 and under accounting for more than 60% of new users.
Jia Yunfan, a 26-year-old digital artist, has been embracing the novel AI movement. He said, "I was trained as an oil painter ever since I was young. But canvas (油画布) and the realistic style are just too classic and I used to be only defined as a painter. Newly emerged art forms like AI paintings can help artists reach global audiences and broaden their artistic field." An illustrator Huang Ge from Shanghai said illustrators need time to create and they are expensive to hire, but with AI tools, hundreds of pictures can be generated every day.
However, the trend has again caused some panic about whether AI is gradually replacing human beings. "Art's values lie not only in representation but also the artist's mind and emotional contributions. Yet this is lacking in AI art. The warmth and inspiration in human's creations are irreplaceable," Ding Daoshi, an analyst said.
A more urgent issue is that there is no consensus of the ownership of AI art. Some users have openly sold some AI paintings and have earned money, but it is still a gray area about whether these artworks belong to users, the digital tool developers or even the AI itself.
Ding noted that the various sides should get together to debate the issue and come up with some accepted regulations as soon as possible because AI is already sticking deeply into every aspect of the lives of human beings.

In December, the intense cold turns dripping water into ice within seconds. Yet, 63-year-old Ren Jianguo gets up early before 5 am every morning to sprinkle (撒) 150 kilograms of corn on the river banks to make sure thousands of migratory birds have enough energy to make it through the winter. Over the past 26 years, Ren has been one of many volunteers protecting migratory birds on Changbai Island, where local residents label him as "Uncle Bird".
For Ren himself, a cottage near the riverbank has almost become his "second home", a place from which he can observe the dynamics of the birds, provide help for injured birds, educate the public about bird conservation and, after a long day of work, light a fire and enjoy a warm meal. Winter is the busiest time for Uncle Bird. When the harsh season makes it difficult for birds to find food, he calls for donations or sometimes even pays for the food himself to guarantee their survival during the winter. "I simply want this to be a warm and welcoming place for birds when they choose to stay here for a temporary rest," he said.
A report in 2021 shows that many migratory birds have changed their habit of just passing through China as they head to the Pacific Ocean or South Asia for the winter. Instead, more and more are choosing to spend winter within China's wetlands. However, when Ren settled in the city in the 1990s, only hundreds of migratory birds would come every winter. Since then, China has stepped up protection of wetlands and nature reserves by introducing new regulations and high technology.
"Thirty years ago, it was impossible to see more than 8,000 birds together in the urban area. But now, thousands of the birds attract an increasing number of tourists every year. As long as they choose to stay in this city, there should be people to take care of them. However tough it is, I will stick to my choice and try to raise public awareness," Ren said.
(1)、Why is winter the busiest time for Mr. Ren?A、He has to receive more tourists. B、He must treat more injured birds. C、He needs to feed more migratory birds. D、He is more engaged in observing birds.(2)、What causes the change in the birds' migrating habit according to the text?A、Long distance. B、High technology. C、Food shortage. D、Improved environment.(3)、Which can be a suitable title for the text?A、Migratory Birds Boost Tourism B、"Uncle Bird" Devoted to Bird Protection C、Great Achievements in Wildlife Protection D、Environmental Impacts on Bird Migration -

How far would you go to help a friend? Jeremy Savage, aged 17, and Ian Marshall, aged 16, both from Canada, had their friendship tested to the limit on a recent trip to the Rocky Mountains with their parents.
On Saturday morning, the two boys decided to climb Cathedral Mountain by themselves while their parents relaxed at the campsite. After three hours, they reached the top and enjoyed the beautiful view from the mountaintop.
However, trouble began when they started the climb down. On one very dangerous part of the mountain, Ian fell three meters off the side of the path. Jeremy climbed down to where Ian was and found him badly injured and not able to move then. Jeremy had to decide what to do. He needed help but he did not want to leave his friend. He cleaned the dirt and blood from Ian's face and hands, and then tried to help Ian stand up, but Ian's right leg was hurting too much. With incredible calmness and his former experience in the mountain, Jeremy then gave Ian his food and water and let him lie on his jacket. They had to wait and hope that help would come. While they waited for help, Jeremy used his jacket and an extra shirt to keep Ian warm and they rested together. Sensing his friend's pain and anxiety, Jeremy gently comforted him and gave him constant encouragement in a determined tone.
Meanwhile, as darkness started to fall, their parents back at the campsite became very worried that the boys had not returned. Desperate tears welling up in the eyes, the mothers frantically prayed to God for their sons' safety. They got in touch with park workers and began searching for the boys. Soon more than 20 people were looking for them on Cathedral Mountain.

13、七选五
From the dawn of civilization, paper records have been a method of keeping track of important and necessary documentation. A common experience throughout the world's record keeping has been the necessity to ensure that all documents are kept together, and none are lost.
These included tying ribbons through the paper, and melting wax to secure the papers in place. For nearly 600 years, these were the methods used to secure papers.
In 1835, a machine that could mass-produce straight pins was invented by Howe J. L. , an American inventor. Although straight pins (大头针)were originally designed for sewing and tailoring, people began using them as a quick and easy way to secure papers. In 1899 he patented the device, which consisted of a wire bent into a particularly shaped hoop for the purpose of securing papers.
During this time, however, the paperclip (回形针)was not a widely distributed device. Therefore, the Gem Manufacturing Company of England developed a machine to manufacture and standardize the paperclip design.
Today the paperclip is a famous invention used throughout offices, schoolrooms, and business throughout the world.
A. The next paper invention was that of the straight pin.
B. Before the paper clip, people had to be creative to keep paper together.
C. The humble item only came into popular usage around the mid-19th century.
D. Later, inspired by the straight pin, Norwegian Vaaler J. came up with the idea of the first paperclip.
E. This manufacturing development allowed for the expansion of the modern paperclip worldwide.
F. Being a wonder of simplicity and function, the paperclip remains a standard office supply throughout the world.
G. Therefore, from the early 13th century people had created various methods to ensure documents were kept together.

Japan's government announced Tuesday, April 13, 2021 that it would start releasing treated radioactive water from the wrecked Fukushima nuclear plant into the Pacific Ocean in two years.
It's a move that's fiercely opposed by fishermen, residents and Japan's neighbors.
15 April, the first meeting of the China-ROK dialogue and cooperation mechanism of maritime affairs was held. The two countries urged Japan to fully consult with international institutions and neighboring countries, and cautiously handle the issue on the basis of participation by relevant countries and international institutions. This is the common position of the two sides. To protect the health of their own people and international marine environment, China and the ROK, as Japan's close neighbors and stakeholders, expressed grave concerns and strong dissatisfaction. This is perfectly natural and justified.
Assessment report of the IAEA experts says that the treated water from the Fukushima nuclear plant contains other radionuclides apart from tritium. According to Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), the nuclear wastewater contains a total of 62 radionuclides. In August 2018, environmentalists found by analyzing data released by TEPCO that iodine-129 levels went off the chart for 60 times in the year 2017. The amount of strontium in the water is also well above the limit. It is reported that Canada has detected radioactivecaesium-134 in salmon from its west coast. In waters near Hawaii, the amount of radioactive materials is twice it was before. These are signs that nuclear pollution from Fukushima may have already spread to North America.
The oceans are not Japan's trash can; and the Pacific Ocean is not Japan's sewer. Japan should not expect the world to pay the bill for its treatment of wastewater. The lesson from Japan's Minamata disease is not far behind us. It should reevaluate the issue and control releasing the wastewater before reaching agreement with all stakeholders and the IAEA through full consultations. China reserves the right to make further reactions.
(1)、Which of the following will the author agree with?A、Japan will pour untreated radioactive water into Pacific Ocean. B、Either China or ROK stands opposite to Japan. C、The nuclear wastewater was predicted to contain 62 radionuclides. D、Japan's Minamata disease has taught us a lesson.(2)、What is the attitude of Japan towards the meeting?A、Approving B、Disapproving C、Not mentioned D、Neutral(3)、What does the underlined expression "went off the chart" mean?A、set off the anger of the public B、were much higher than the standard C、went against the requirement of the international institution. D、disappeared from the rank chart for qualification(4)、What's the best title of the passage?A、Japan shocked the world by releasing radioactive water. B、Japan plans to put the treated nuclear wastewater into the Pacific. C、The Pacific Ocean-Japan's trash producer? D、Is Japan going to reevaluate its behaviour? -

Do you sometimes find yourself drawing random patterns and designs during meetings and lectures? Some people believe it shows you aren't listening or paying attention. However, there are studies which claim the opposite(相反的),and that doodling(乱涂乱画)might actually be beneficial.
Doodling seems to be everywhere. In the past it was seen as a mindless activity and a product of the absent-minded. However, in 2016, an article on the Harvard University website discussed the idea that random drawings may assist memory-keeping and concentration.
The article stressed that 26 of 44 American presidents were known to doodle, with Ronald Reagan famous for drawing cowboys. A 2009 study conducted by psychologist Jackie Andrade asked 40 people to listen to a "dull and confusing' voice message. Half of the group were asked to doodle and shade in a picture. Those who did were able to recall 29% more of the information contained in the message.
Some experts believe that accepting your creative and artistic sides during meetings may help you to concentrate. Jesse Prinz, a famous professor of philosophy, actively encourages his students to doodle. And it might not just be good for your concentration. An artist now as Mr Doodle has made a career out of his scribbles(涂鸦).He sells his art online and also goes to people's homes to decorate their walls.
It seems that random drawing to aid concentration might be becoming more of a thing. People like Sunni Brown, an advocate for doodling, teach adults how to scribble in the workplace. So,the next time you see someone randomly drawing pictures during a meeting, it might be a sign that they are listening more than you think.
(1)、What's the common belief about doodling?A、A chance to show one's creativity. B、A sign of being absent-minded. C、A way to communicate effectively. D、An approach to improving memory.(2)、Why are American presidents mentioned in paragraph 3?A、To arouse people's interest in the study. B、To encourage the public to draw everywhere. C、To introduce more studies about doodling. D、To make the new finding more convincing,(3)、How are the benefits of doodling proved in paragraph 4?A、By giving examples. B、By comparing opinions. C、By listing numbers. D、By analyzing facts.(4)、Which section of a website is the text most likely from?A、Health. B、Research. C、Culture. D、Education. -

In the years of my growing up, Dad was hard on me. He made sure I made my bed and did my homework. As a school girl and young adult, I feared him and felt bitter about him. He seemed unhappy with me unless I got straight A's and unhappy with my boyfriends if their fathers were not as "successful" as he was. Whenever I went out with him on weekends, I used to struggle to think up things to say, feeling on guard.
He would call in advance to make sure there was no alcohol at the party. I got so angry with him for laying down the law. I would scream, "I hate you!" Dad would yell back, "Good! I don't care!" Deep down I knew he did.
One time at a party, I drank too much alcohol and got so sick. I said, "Call my dad." Next thing, Dad was carrying me to the car. I woke up the next morning, thinking I would definitely be criticized. As expected, I got a roasting, but I now understand why I need discipline.
Dad was 29 when he got his big roles in films. I had an early start at the age of nine with a role in a 1990s TV series, but it wasn't until I finished film studies that I pursued my career as an actress. Like those early days for Dad, I faced lots of rejections. Working in such a competitive industry, I've sometimes thought, "I can't do this any more."
Once, after a trip to Hollywood, I returned to Australia so depressed and spent months in my bedroom painting, listening to Eckhart Tolle's music and trying to find myself again. Dad sat me down and said, "Alice, I know it's hard, but it's all about persistence(坚持不懈)."
Now I get to work with Dad a lot, which I love. We are both enthusiastic about acting, which comes from us being so interested in people. If it weren't for Dad, I wouldn't be where I am today. He's my biggest fan, and when you have that in your life you can go a long way.
(1)、Which of the following is similar in meaning to the underlined part?A、I was blamed. B、I was pulled out of bed. C、I got out of trouble. D、I was comforted.(2)、What can we learn from the passage?A、As an actor, her father's career is always smooth. B、It is her father who has helped shape the author who she is. C、She would feel tired when going out with her father on weekends. D、She was bitter about her father as a school girl as he was too proud of himself.(3)、Which of the following best describes the writer's father?A、Severe and impatient. B、Talkative and hard-working. C、Proud but gentle. D、Strict but caring. -

Mum and Her Bank Account
My family had the tradition to sit down by the kitchen table every Saturday night to count out the money Dad had brought home.
"These are for the rent, and these for the groceries(杂货)." Mum divided up the money into pieces.
"I`ll need a notebook," that would be my sister Christine, my brother Nels or me.
After Mum put one or two coins to the side for the notebook, she said that was all we needed to buy for the week and we all relaxed a little. We didn't have to go downtown and draw money out of Mum's bank account, which could always give us such a warm and secure feeling for having enough to afford the life.
When Nels graduated from grammar school(文法学校), he needed some money for high school. We sat by the table and I offered my "Little Bank" which was used for sudden emergencies such as the time when Christine broke her arm and had to see a doctor. I laid the box carefully in front of Mum. After counting out the money in the little bank and finding it was not enough, we all agreed not to go to the bank but to find some ways.
Nels volunteered to work in Dillon's grocery after school and Dad said he would give up smoking. Now there was enough money. We felt relieved.
So many things came out of the little bank that year: Christine's dress for the school play, Nels` operation…Whatever happened, we always knew we still had the bank to depend on. We never used her bank account.
That was twenty years ago. Last year, I sold my first story. When the money came I thought of Mum's bank account.
注意: 1. 续写词数应为 150 左右;
2. 请按如下格式在相应位置作答。So I hurried over to my Mum's home.
Knowing that there was no bank account at all, I felt shocked.
